The panic I was feeling started to fade. Was it all true? did my dad actually have a wolf, and I will get a wolf tomorrow on my eighteenth birthday. At least that is what they were, both telling me. Ember was Maggie's wolf she had just spoken to me. The whole thing was very shocking. I didn't know what to think anymore. Why had my dad kept this from me my entire life. Why was my mother's death such a mystery? It did explain a lot of things why I was faster than everybody. l was stronger than most of the boys in school. It made it hard for me. None of the boys liked me they thought I was a freak because no other girls were like me, plus all the girls were scared of me. The year after my mother died, my father shut down. I remembered him crying a lot. He would grip his chest and wail as if something had been torn away from him that left a bloody gaping hole. The memories are vague thinking back. I barely remember the 1st day of school. I remember being really excited, except It was not the case a couple of weeks later. The kids in school picked on me and would pull my hair. They would take my stuff call me names. I never understood why I was different from them, or so I thought at the time. I was 9, turning 10, I think. One afternoon, a group of boys surrounded me on the school yard playground. My dad had gotten me a special hat to help cover the grey streak of hair. A boy named Dillon and his two friends Travis and Brad. "she's a freak Travis' Dillon said as he made his way towards me. Brad had started to circle me until they stood around me, and I could not get away. Brad pushed me into Dillon, who pushed me to the ground hard. "Awe, she's started to cry, Hugh. What a baby." Travis spit at as he pointed at me; singing,"Cry baby cry baby, Lilly is cry baby." he smiled and laughed at me. I began to stand up, Dillon moved fast and took the hat my dad had given me off my head and was waving it in the air laughing. I tried to reach for it, and he threw it to Travis, who threw it to Brad, then back to Dillon. Anger bubbled inside me. I wanted to scream at them, but my dads voice telling me not to start trouble in school rang in my head, so I tried to ask nicely. He just wasn't a very nice little boy. And today I got mad. "Give it back." I asked. "What are you gonna do about it?" Dillon teased, holding my hat above my head. "I said, give it back right now." I reached for it only for Dillon to pull it away from me. "That's my hat. GIVE IT BACK!" I screamed at them. This drew the attention of some of the other kids in the school yard. They all started to whisper and point at me. "I think I might keep it. What do you think, Travis, so everyone can see her freak mark," he said as he pointed at my hair. He was talking about the streak of grey hair. "Freak,freak,freak....Travis started to chant. The tears had stopped, and I was angry. Dillon turned to walk away with my hat. I started to run after him he turned just as I hit him hard in the face. I punched him in his nose. When my fist made contact, everyone could hear the crunch it was loud, then the blood came pouring, and he erupted into a horrifying scream. Dillon put his hand over his nose, hit the ground, and started to roll around in pain, screaming the whole time. This caught the attention of the teachers as all the kids in the school surrounded us and started screaming FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! It was chaos on the playground. Travis and Brad had seen me hit Dillon. Travis glared at me. You could tell by his eyes that he wanted to hurt me for what I had done. "You broke this nose you b***h, Dillon was right you are a FREAK! Travis pointed and started to chant again. FREAK! FREAK! FREAK! Soon, everyone started to chant. FREAK! FREAK! MONSTER!LOSER!FREAK! "BREAK IT UP! THAT IS ENOUGH!" I could hear the teachers and principle yell as they tried to make their way through the sea of kids. Brad was not chanting as he was moving towards me, fists clenched, Brad was going to hit me. All three of these boys were older and taller than me. All these boys were in grade 7, with me being in grade 5 at the time. I don't think they liked the fact that I had beaten them all for the top spot on the track team. Brad had closed the distance between us he had started to raise his fist up to hit me. I tried to move away from him, but the crowd of kids stopped me. Just as his fist was about to make contact, Mr Adam's the principal grabbed his arm, spun him around, and bear hugged him. Brad began to struggle well kicking and screaming. Dillon was being led by one of the teachers. "EVERYONE BACK TOO CLASS NOW," Mr Adam's voice boomed. All the students scattered I went to follow. " Not you, Lilly. To my office, please follow Miss Lang she will show you the way.
