Chapter 5

Kane POV      I watched from a distance, as the flames licked and danced around the few buildings that remained standing of Blue Moon Pack, finding great comfort in the screams of the dying pack. The fire could never completely wipe this land of all their sins, but the putrid smell of the pack’s flesh melting from its heat, at least gave me some comfort that they weren’t granted an easy death. This would have to do.       “The council won’t ignore this, brother” Seth warned, as he walked up beside me, taking a seat by my side to watch the c*****e.      “I don’t want them to” I stated, voice cold as ice as I continued to take in the beautiful scene before me “this is my declaration of war. They have had their fun long enough. It’s time they ALL paid for their sins.” I took the blade that pathetic Alpha had tried to end my life with and cut my hand, allowing my blood to drip on the cursed land of my Luna “All wolves will tremble before my wrath, this I swear” the red glow of my eyes in the smoky night seamlessly blending in with the faint glow of the collapsing buildings, a clear testament to any bystanders of the rage that burned constantly within my Lycan’s soul “as well as everyone else who was involved”      *Alpha* my Beta’s voice rang through the mindlink *we’ve caught a trace of her scent leading out of the pack, and into the woods*      *Was she alone?* I questioned      *No, we caught traces of Irene and Anja’s scents as well*       *Good, they’re sticking together. It should make getting all of our mates back, easier* I was still furious she had betrayed me and ran off, but I had to admit, learning she had rejected her mate took some of the sting away. I thought for sure she would have taken the chance to be mated to her true mate and the thought had broken my heart, she was mine. If anyone else so much as laid a finger on her, I would rip it from their body and do to them what I had done to her mate.                “You’ll never be able to give her pups either, I hear your kind is sterile unless it’s for your own mate”      My beast and I both growled in unison at the memory of the words of her mate. They danced around in our head like a curse we couldn’t shake, a cruel reminder of everything the goddess had taken from us.       We could always search for our mate and turn her into a breeder, they may not be her pups but at least she would have pups to raise if she wanted      If it comes to that, I will consider it. It would give me an heir as well.      Exactly, it would be like killing two birds with one stone      Knowing Kaida, that’s not going to go over to well though...  it could make convincing her to come back to us difficult      Abaddon growled in my head ferociously, done playing games with our little chosen mate      She’s made it abundantly clear that no matter how understanding and how much time we give her, it’s not going to make any difference. I thought we had already resigned to just forcing her to stay by our side      And I couldn't agree with him more, not even Casey could keep us from our Luna. One way or another, we would bring her back to the pack and make her mark us back, binding us together for good this time.       “What now brother?” Seth questioned from where he sat beside me, his face clouded with worry. I wasn’t sure if it was over the council or my decision regarding my Luna.       I never liked how close they seemed to be, but I had trusted him enough not to take my mate from me... but now that we weren’t bound? The only thing stopping him would be his loyalty to me as a brother and I wasn’t sure whether or not his feeling for her outweighed that or not.       MINE Abaddon snarled in my head territorially, furious with the possibility that Seth could have any intentions towards our chosen mate.       “Now, I track down my Luna and bring her home” I spoke calmly, eyeing my brother for any clues to his true feelings. But our father had trained us both too well to allow any such lapse, even in front of each other. Seth’s face remained stone cold as he continued to observe the night sky above him, the moon’s rays’ barely shining through the thick cloud of smoke that obscured the sky above.       “What if she doesn’t come back?” he asked simply, never once dropping his gaze from the sky      “She doesn’t have a choice in the matter. She WILL come back”      If I hadn’t been closely observing him, If I hadn't grown up with him and known him better than he knew himself, I would have missed it, but there, for a millisecond, I caught a glimpse of his true feelings.      “Is that going to be a problem?” I asked pointedly, releasing some of my power to pressure him so he understood the gravity of his mistake.       “None at all” he responded coldly, pushing himself up to standing and haphazardly dusting off his pants “It’s not my place to have problems, right, Alpha?” his eyes narrowed down toward me, almost challengingly, earning himself a threatening growl from my Lycan. He stumbled from the pressure we exerted, but refused to submit as he held my gaze provocatively.       Slowly, my claws and canines began extending, readying themselves for a shift, when out of nowhere, my brother cracked a smile and dropped his gaze, breaking out into laughter.      “Take a joke Kane” he mocked “It’s not good to be so serious all the time” he called out as he turned to leave, waving his hand mockingly “Might give yourself an aneurism” he continued to mock, walking into the forest, following the tracks of my Beta and Gamma “I'm going to see what I can find, I’ll let you know if there are any updates”       I held my half-shifted form, never once dropping my gaze from my brother as he walked away. Despite how hard he tried to play it off, I didn’t miss the clenching of his fist as he disappeared into the forest. Had he been any one but my own brother, I would have killed him where he stood just a few minutes ago.       This better not cause problems later on      Snarled Abaddon as he too watched Seth walk away, leaving us both to wonder just how far our brother’s loyalty would extend.       There won’t be a second time       I promised my Lycan, soothing some of his rage.      Brother or not, as an Alpha, I simply couldn’t allow for him to be challenging my authority like that.
