The night air bit into his skin, cold enough to sink straight into the bone, as they marched Dan across the open yard. The place felt more like a runway than a courtyard, wide, empty, and silent, lit only by sweeping beams that cut through the black sky. Dan’s eyes darted around, uneasy. “Where are you taking me?” His voice was hoarse but steady, even with their grip locked tight on his arms. The man in front didn’t blink. “Somewhere you can breathe,” he said flatly. It wasn’t an answer. It was a threat dressed up as one. It pissed him off. What had started as a reckless plan to keep Anna safe had gone completely sideways. These people didn’t just want him quiet, they wanted the spyware he’d built years ago.
