The police begin their investigation
Once the call had been made from Bukowski’s house, the police arrived almost immediately. It was a full-scale response. At least, thought Bukowski, they had turned up in unmarked cars and without the sirens blaring. Otherwise, the swarm of cars at the entrance to his property would have attracted the press who were always hovering around like carrion birds.
Three cars and a white van with no windows and no lettering on the sides arrived. They could have been painters, decorators or bricklayers. In the van, they had a whole mobile laboratory for analysis and corroboration of evidence. One of the cars was occupied by Lieutenant Eduardo Navarro and in the rest were all the crime scene investigators.
