Edwin van Antwerp was an expert valuer, broker and dealer in art and antiques, operating both in Paris and Monte Carlo. A collector and connoisseur, he also worked on behalf of a certain David Orenstein, one of the patriarchs of a legendary and highly controversial dynasty of great collectors, dealers and traffickers, accused by several Jewish families of having enriched themselves through Nazi plunder.
Daniel thought it would be ironic and cruel if this Orenstein had anything to do with the theft, considering that it was the Nazis who first stole it from Bukowski’s family.
