Unexpected

chapter 11: first shift

[Alex’s pov]

    We've been home now for a few hours, just hanging out on the porch. I had asked Sarah to go home for obvious reasons. Gram came out and sat in her chair. 

    “Alright kids. Tonight at midnight you will both shift for the first time. It's going to hurt but don't fight it. I will be here the entire time to make sure nothing happens that's not supposed to. After you shift completely, don't run, I will shift too and we can run together for your first time. You both know how to mindlink now, correct?” she looked back and forth between us as we nodded. “Good, you’ve got about a half hour then I'll come back out and we’ll head closer to the woodline, don't want any accidental damage to our little cabin now,  do we?” she chuckled and headed inside.

    “I'm nervous,” Bay admitted. “I'm not sure if I can do this Alex.” worry shown all over his face,  I reassured him quickly “Bay Michael Casal, I know for a FACT that you can do this and you will. You can do anything you can put your mind to and I will be right next to you every step of the way. Remember it's you and I against the world, always” 

    He smiled, just barely but I know my words got to him. To be honest, I have no doubts, I can feel my wolf’s excitement in my head and I wonder if Bay can feel his. 

    “Hey, has your wolf talked to you yet? Can you feel his excitement to be let out? I can feel mine, her name is Stella by the way.” I let out a jumble of words quicker than I meant too. 

    He chuckled lowly “yeah, he mainly called me an i***t and then hasn't talked to me since the whole thing with Sarah, his name is Jackson, and yes, I can feel his excitement as well.” He looked off towards the woods, and I followed his gaze.

    There was a shuffling sound in the distance, and suddenly the best smell i’ve ever smelled in the history of smells hit my nose. It was like I was standing next to the ocean, that's how strong it was. Within seconds of the scent hitting me Jase was standing right in front of me with a small, long black box in his hand.  My eyes met his and wow,  its like I was lost in them “Happy birthday beautiful” he smiled and I stood up practically throwing myself at him in an embrace. The sparks came alive inside of me where our skin touched and he pulled away. A little saddened by this, I sat back in my chair and he handed me the box. “Open it”. Doing as he said, I was in awe. It was a beautiful rose gold necklace with a half moon charm with a blood diamond in the center. “I love it” my eyes started to tear up a bit. 

    “I'm glad you do Alexandria, I thought this would look perfect on you. But I will not be putting it on you until after you shift.” I got up again and gave him a hug and a kiss this time. His lips moved perfectly in sync with mine, sparks shooting through my body where our lips connected. God damn, that feeling is addicting. Someone cleared their throat and we quickly broke apart, me blushing and him smirking. 

“Now, if you're done sucking each other's faces off can we all head to the field? It's time” Gram said, standing in the doorway. 

    “While you're at it, please refrain from sucking face with my sister in front of me” Bay directed towards Jase, he just laughed in return as we all walked off the porch.

    Gram and Jase stood off to the side, me and Bay standing next to each other with about six feet in between us, facing each other. “Alright any minute now it will start. Remember don't fight it! Embrace it!” Gram said and we nodded

    About 30 seconds later the pain started and the sound of bones cracking filled the air around us. Excruciating pain radiates through my body as I struggle to look at Bay seeing the same thing happen at the same time.  

    Nails turning to claws, hands turning to paws, the bones in my body breaking and resetting and my face elongating into a snout, I huffed and went to scream out when instead a growl came out. I did it! We did it! I looked over to my brother, now standing in his place was a huge wolf, that was at least 7 foot tall if not more, pitch black fur covering its body except for a small white spot on his back leg.  

    “Alex I did it you were right! Your wolf is gorgeous by the way sis, Your snow white, besides a little black spot on your back leg” Bay mindlinked me

    “That's crazy because you're the exact opposite of me! Pitch black with a little white spot on your leg!” We hear a whistle and look over to Gram and Jase.

    “Alright kids, Jase will be running with us but he can't mindlink us at all so try not to get in any trouble and stick close to me or him. You still have no training and the woods are dangerous” we huffed in response as we watched her shift into her wolf, she was quite small, and a tan color. Jase walked over to me staring in awe “Your wolf is absolutely stunning my darling” he said as he scratched under my snout. 

    Gram howled and we all followed suit, running to the tree line. I've never moved so fast in my life, weaving between the trees and jumping over fallin logs. This is who I'm meant to be.
