Unexpected

chapter 10: a birthday to remember

[Alex’s pov]

    I woke up to the sound of my bedroom door opening, and multiple footsteps shuffling towards my bed. Wow, my hearing is on ten! Any other day I wouldn't have heard any of that while I was asleep. This must be a part of that whole being a werewolf thing right? 

    Suddenly my blanket was ripped off of me and I shot up to yell when I was cut off by a trio of happy birthday wishes and a little cupcake with a candle in it. Bay sat next to me on my bed and handed me the cupcake.

    “I'm sorry I've been acting like an ass. I love you and I'd really like to spend our birthday together despite everything else going on. Will you please accept my apology?” How can I stay  mad at my twin on our birthday? I threw my arms around the big buffoon and he wrapped his arms around my small frame as I whispered “Happy Birthday big brother” just loud enough for him to hear. Because this will be the first and the last time he’ll ever hear me admit that he is in fact my older brother regardless that we are the same age. Yeah okay, that doesn't totally make sense but it kinda does in the sense that he's one thousand percent more mature than I am.

    “Thank you guys but if you don't mind I’d like to go take a shower now” I chuckled and they all headed towards the kitchen while I got up and headed towards the bathroom. My eyesight is spectacular! That must be another perk with the whole werewolf thing. 

    “Hey there, good lookin! It's nice to finally meet ya!” said an extremely cheery voice in my head

    “Um, who are you?” I responded out loud. 

    “I'm your wolf, Stella is my name, I've always been a part of you.  Now keep going with your morning routine darlin! We’ve got a birthday to celebrate!”  she chuckled. 

    “You’re right! And at the end of the day we get to see Jase!!” I undressed and hopped in the shower, feeling more like myself than I ever have.

       “So Stella, tell me about yourself, what can you tell me about being a werewolf?” I said as I started on my hair. 

          "Well I'm your wolf half, for one, whenever you change into your wolf form, that's me, we can take turns being in control in either form. We also have the power to mind link with other weres, normally only in the same pack as us but since you're actually a royal you can mind link with any wolf you come in contact with. We have a heightened sense of smell, hearing and sight which comes in handy.  strength beyond anyone's expectations, but we will need training in both forms. After your first time shifting, which should be tonight, you will have access to our speed. Your first couple shifts are most painful but after a while it becomes as easy as breathing”.

    At this point of time, I'm finally done with my morning routine, and I head to my room to get dressed. I told her a quick thank you and got dressed in an above the knee plaid skirt, a black tee shirt style crop top, and straightened my hair. I put bare minimum makeup on which was only some gloss and mascara. One final look in the mirror and I head to meet everyone in the kitchen.

[Bay’s POV]

    I stirred awake as the most amazing scent ever hit my nose. It was like sage on crack. I followed it out to the living room to a sleeping Sarah as a voice in my head was screaming “go to her! She's your mate!” I sat down by her and put my hand on her shoulder and she jumped awake.

    “ Bay! You scared me, what are you doing up already? The sun’s not even up?” Does she not know yet? Maybe it's because she's not 18 yet? I start panicking. Should I tell her or should I wait? Her birthday isn't until december so that’ll be forever and I don't think I can wait that long

    “Just tell her, you i***t!” the voice in my head said again? Who is that? “Ugh you really are an i***t aren't you? I'm your wolf! I'm a part of you and I can hear your thoughts! Now tell her before I take over and do it for you!” scared of what he might do, I said it. 

    “Umm, Sarah, I think you're my mate…” she didn't respond for a while she kinda just stared at me in shock before she finally responded with the words that completely shattered my heart.

    “Listen Bay, it's not that this doesn't make me happy but we can't be mates. We just can't, okay? When I turn 18 I    have to reject you. There is so much more going on than you understand.” I didn't know what to say. I just sat there feeling my heart break and my soul crumble, this is the worst pain I ever felt in my life. “We will fight for her! She's ours!” my wolf said. I'm gonna have to get his name at some point. “It's Jackson '' oh, well there's that. 

    I finally looked at her again and said the only words that I could “Sarah. You’re the one who told me that it's rare for any supernatural being to find their mate without searching for years, and now you're not even gonna give us a chance? I promise with everything in me I will do everything I can to change your mind before then. I wont lose you so easily”.

    [Alex’s pov]

    After spending the morning and afternoon with Gram and Sarah, Bay asked me if we could have some one-on-one time so we went our own way, headed towards the park first. He's been kind of off all day. I can sense it. “Hey Stel, how do I mindlink? I wanna freak out Bay'' she giggled and then said “concentrate, picture a gate open in your mind and think of him, then think whatever it is you wanna say”. 

    Alright let's give this a shot, I did as she said “Hey, wanna talk to me about whatever's going on with you today?” he looked at me in shock.

    “How did you do that?” he asked and I answered and he said he'd give it a try as we sit on a bench 

    “I found out who my mate is.”  he mindlinked me.

    This time I responded with my actual voice “Bay that's great! But why do you seem so upset about it?” 

    “Well for starters, she's your best friend and she told me that she was going to reject me on her birthday,” he said quietly. WHAT? She may be my best friend but Bay is my twin. You hurt him, you hurt me. “I told her I will do everything in my power to get her to change her mind before then.”

    “I'm sorry. I know there’s nothing I can do to make this easier for you but how about we just forget about    everything else for the rest of the day and just spend it together? Get some quality twin time before everything changes?” He had a small smile but it was enough for me to know he liked this idea. I scooted closed and threw my arms around him “It's me and you against the world Bay, never forget that” we stood up and went on our way.

    We’re on our way back to the house now, it's about 7 or 8 guessing by the color of the sky slowly turning to night. We went to the park, our favorite diner and window shopped all while talking out everything that's been going on. In the end he agreed to lighten up on me and I told him I understood where he was coming from, but I'm not some helpless little rabbit, I'm the wolf that eats the helpless little rabbit.
