chapter 14: uncle?

[Sarah’s pov]

    For the past week I've done my best to stay away from Bay. It's harder than I thought. He showed up at my house several times begging to talk and I had to have my mom send him away each time. He texts me at least once a day. How can I tell him why I can't be with him? He won't understand. He’ll think I'm lying just because I don't want to be with him. It’s the opposite in reality. I want nothing more than to be his. How do I tell him about the curse put on my family? For generations any female in my family who finds their mate and accepts the bond, loses their mate to a horrible death. I don't want that for Bay; he has so much ahead of him to do! 

    I keep ignoring Alex although I miss her, I know she's mad about everything since I broke her brother's heart. If I tell her what's going on she’ll just tell Bay, and he’ll act like it's not real. But it is as real as I am, I promise. My mother lost her mate to the curse. My father is a warlock that she married a few years after, who she grew to love as time passed. I don't want that for myself. I must find a way to break this curse. 

[Alex pov]

    After spending an amazing day with Jase, he walked me home, yes, he actually let me walk for once.  We started out our date with him taking me on a picnic, he made me a few sandwiches and had chocolate covered strawberries that he insisted on feeding me. After that he took me to a place behind his home, a few minutes walk into the woods there's a little pond, with flowers growing everywhere with a fallen log resting a few feet away from the pond, he said it was his special place to think, and that he wanted to share it with me, isn't that sweet? We spent the rest of our day there, swimming, talking and laughing.

    “I’ve had an amazing day with you Jase, thank you for doing this with me” I said as we held hands and walked through the woods. 

    “It was my pleasure Princess, I love spending time with you. I'm sorry to say I have some business to attend to so I won't be able to stay after I get you home. I hope that’s okay with you” he looked over at me and I smiled. 

    “Of course that’s okay, Gram wants to have a family talk anyways. Will you be there in the morning for training though?” 

    “Yes of course, training is extremely important for you two and I wouldn’t mess that up for anything, I just have a meeting with a few of the other species leaders”. 

    We continue to walk in a comfortable silence until we reach my cabin. He pulled me into a hug and met me in the middle for a kiss, slow and passionate before pulling away. “Until tomorrow my darling, have a good night with your family.” and with that he was gone, already out of my sight and it felt like a piece of myself was missing. I sigh, heading towards the door. It’s only been a week but it’s becoming harder and harder to be away from him. When he’s around me I feel whole, complete and when he’s gone it's like I'm empty and incomplete. Gram and Bay are sitting in the living room, I walk over to her and place a kiss on her cheek. “Hey Gram! Watcha wanna talk about?” I say as I walk over and sit by Bay and give him a side hug. 

    “Well I thought it was time we talked about some things more in detail. You two are progressing in training at a fast rate, and I'm absolutely undeniably proud of you both. You took the news of being wolves a lot easier than I expected. So I'm going to tell you more of the story about what happened 18 years ago.” 

    Bay and I nod our heads hesitantly. I’m not sure I actually want to know more. 

She started:

    “ Alpha King Colson Casal and Luna Queen Andria Casal were the leaders of the werewolf species, alongside them was the Alpha king's Beta, Lucian Greyback. Lucian was also best friends with the king, practically brothers and they trusted each other with their lives. So much so that the King and Queen made him the godfather of their children. Lucian became power hungry fast, his behavior changed, his Mate had died giving birth to their son, Lucas. His son, the same age as you both. Lucian snapped. Taking his anger out on the kingdom and the King and Queen, he allied with vampires and dark witches and attacked during the night, the king fought them off best he could. Dying in the process. The Queen however was able to get away and drop her children off with the last and final order for me to keep her twin children safe, so that her son can one day take his rightful place on the throne, and her daughter to lead the warriors, as they were destined to be. That night Lucian betrayed his oath, killed his king, and destroyed lives. He now rules over everyone but stays away from the human towns, so we will be safe here for now, but as your strength grows we will be more noticeable.” 

    I didn’t know what to say. Our father’s dead? But our mother’s alive! We have to find her!

    “So I am to be a King of werewolves and I know nothing about them? How exactly is that supposed to work?”  Bay looks over at her, confusion written all over his face. 

     Gram was quick to respond “don’t worry you’ll know everything you need to know before then. I have a friend coming starting tomorrow to train you in wolf form. He will also be teaching you everything you will need to know about how things work in packs, and how to properly lead.” she wore a sly grin while looking between us. 

    Finally speaking I asked, “who?”

“The former Gamma of our pack, Cameron Casal. Your uncle.

[Jase pov]

    Checking my watch, I sigh. I’ve been waiting in lucians office for ten minutes and I have 5 other meetings tonight. I’ve been putting entirely way too much off to be with Alexandria. Not that I’m not enjoying it but I have to keep up business appearances. 

    The door opens finally, and in comes Lucian and his son tailing right behind him. Couldn’t ever remember the little leaches name. “Ah Lucian, how is it that you’re the one late on a meeting on your own territory?” I chuckled. “I have 5 more meetings tonight so it be best you say whatever needed” 

    He chuckled as his son gave me a glare.  “ Jase old friend, straight to business as usual I see, as you know this young man here is my son Lucas, and he has informed me of something. Would you like him to tell you as well?” What is this about? Is this a joke? I nod hesitantly.

    “Well, Lucas, tell him exactly what you told me” he nodded at his father and began

     “Alpha had sent me towards the human towns to check in on pack members closer to the boarders, when i saw something quite interesting. “ he had the audacity to stare me in my eyes. As if I couldn't kill him within seconds.

     I nod “oh please do continue young man, but i warn you. Know your place and watch who you look down at like that”  I stared back, a smirk amusement playing on my lips.

    “It was you, with a woman who strikingly resembles the woman and man father showed me pictures of. Black hair, green eyes, almost the exact same facial structures as the woman. That wouldn’t be one of the twins would it?” curiosity shown in his eyes. Not like the malice in his fathers. Hmm. strange. 

    “Why, yes she is. That beautiful woman you saw me with was MY mate Alexandria Casal. Now Lucian, do you see why I will not side with you this time around? MY princess will always come first, so, that being said. Any harm that comes to her, will end in your death. Now the real question is, will it be by my hand, hers, her very protective brother, her mother….or maybe her uncle?” his jaw dropped. He hadn’t expected that one. 

    “Cameron is dead. He died alongside his brother. “ as if saying it made it true he nodded to himself.

    “Let me ask you this, Lucian. Did you see the body? Or did the men tell you that and you believed them?” I chuckled and stood up. “Well I really must be going now. It was a pleasure as always but, the fae waited for no man” turning and going full speed off the pack ground before I could be asked further questions. Seems like we will need to speed their training along.
