The Wrong Call
The jungle was dense, dark, and unforgiving. Snakes crawled silently through the thick undergrowth, while the distant growls of wild animals echoed through the forest. Deep inside the jungle, hidden among the trees and rocks, a small cave offered a brief shelter from the dangers outside. A fire burned inside the cave, its flames casting flickering shadows across the rough stone walls. Beside the fire, a strong and handsome young man slept peacefully. A beautiful young woman was asleep in his arms, resting comfortably against him. For a moment, everything was quiet. Then— BANG! BANG! The sound of gunfire tore through the silence. Both of them woke instantly. The man's expression changed in a heartbeat. The peacefulness of sleep disappeared, replaced by sharp alertness. He quickly got to his feet and looked toward the entrance of the cave. “Stay here,” he whispered firmly. He pointed toward a large rock nearby. “Hide behind that. Don't come out until I tell you.” Without wasting another second, he moved toward the cave's entrance. Keeping himself concealed behind the rocks, he carefully watched the darkness outside, ready for whatever was waiting beyond it. But the girl didn't stay behind the rock. Instead, she followed him. She had barely moved a few steps when she suddenly noticed someone approaching through the darkness. A member of their own unit. The tension on her face disappeared immediately. Relief washed over her. The man turned and looked at her. Their eyes met. And despite everything, they both smiled. --- Two Years Earlier Staphy was an ordinary girl with extraordinary dreams. She wanted to move forward in life. She wanted to touch the sky, stand firmly on her own feet, and build a life that belonged entirely to her. At just five feet two inches, her dreams were far bigger than her height. But Staphy had never allowed her size to determine the size of her ambitions. There was one thing she had already decided about her future. Love and marriage would never be a part of it. She had made herself a promise. She would never fall in love with anyone. And she would never marry. Life had knocked her down enough times to teach her an important lesson: money mattered. A lot. After experiencing the harsh realities of life, Staphy had understood that depending on someone else was not the future she wanted. She wanted to stand on her own. So she started her own online product business. Day and night, she worked to build it. She handled customers, orders, messages, and everything else that came with running a business. But her business was only one part of her life. There was another side of Staphy that almost nobody knew about. She was a professional paraglider. Only her family knew. To everyone else, she was simply an ambitious young woman working hard to create her future. But whenever she was up in the sky, carried by the wind beneath her paraglider, she felt something no business could give her. Freedom. The sky was one of the places where she felt most alive. And she intended to turn every one of her dreams into reality. One day, while working on her business, Staphy decided to call one of her old customers. She picked up her phone and dialed the number. But she accidentally entered the wrong number. The call went somewhere else entirely. No one answered. She looked at the screen for a moment before shrugging it off. She saved the number on w******p and decided she would deal with it later. Then she went back to work. The entire day passed with Staphy buried in her responsibilities. It was only at night, when she finally checked her phone, that she noticed a new message. Unknown Number: Hello. She stared at the screen. For a second, she couldn't remember who it was. Then she remembered the number she had accidentally called earlier. Maybe it's the customer. The customer she had originally intended to contact usually had an assistant handling things for them, so Staphy didn't know much about the person on the other end of this number. She decided to start a normal conversation. Staphy: Hello. Is this Mr. ___? A reply came after a short pause. Unknown Number: Yes. Staphy relaxed. She continued the conversation normally, unaware that the person on the other side wasn't exactly who she thought he was. They didn't talk for very long that night. Neither of them knew it then, but that simple conversation was about to become the beginning of something neither had ever planned. A connection born from a wrong number. A friendship neither had been looking for. And eventually… a love neither of them had ever wanted.
