CHAPTER 2
It had been a week since I ended things with Tyler and I had gone to visit my Godmother, Coco at her diner/cafe.
“Honey!“ She called me full of sympathy and hugged me. “I can't believe his audacity!“
“It's alright Coco. I'm dealing with it” I tried to assure her. Quite frankly, I did not want to speak of the betrayal.
“You wait right here and drink your coffee. I'll be right back“ she said before disappearing into the backroom.
Coco was the sweetest person I had ever known, she helped raise me as a child and after my parents passed away, she took full responsibility of me as my only notable relative. Coco was to my mother what Elena was to me and if I ever did pass away under unfortunate events, I wanted Elena to care for my children, like she does me.
A loud crash causes me to turn to the noise, a waitress was apologizing profusely to the man seated at the closest table, his shirt drenched in hot coffee. He winced as he tried to dry out his shirt.
“It's fine. It's fine” he repeated as the poor girl apologized. He looked up and caught me staring before he proceeded to walk towards me with a smile tugging at his lips.
“Damon” I called with as much cheer as I could muster.
“Good to see you too, Ms Champagne” he said noticing my deflated attempt to sound cheery. I gestured to the seat in front of me and he sat down.
“Long day? It's barely noon” he added.
“Long week rather. I found out my boyfriend was cheating the night we met” I have no idea why I told him that but he had an aura that made me want to tell him everything I knew.
“Wow. That sucks” he puffed. He wait for my reaction and when I said nothing he continued. “Well, I was going to ask if you wanted to come to the fair with me but now I'm not so sure”
I appreciated the fact that he did not want to speak of my past relationship. Perhaps, it was because he was considerate to understand that he would be poking fresh wounds or he simply did not care but for whatever reason it was, I was glad for it.
My smile did not reach my eyes. All I wanted to do was go home and drown myself in a bowl of ice cream surrounded by my tears but that would mean I would be spending the evening crying and thinking about it.
This man intrigued me. I have been used by more men than Tyler, all chasing one thing... The status and wealth I provided. I guess I thought Tyler would be different. I wanted to see Damon again so I sighed and answered reluctantly.
“No harm in asking, right?“ I said and he smiled revealing a perfect set of pearly white teeth.
Hoping and praying he showers me with all the affection a guy could give a girl, hoping he is different cause I am getting so tired of guys claiming to love me when in reality they are just after my wealth and fame.
I just feel like I could trust this one, so there is no harm in giving love one more chance.
“So Ms Champagne? Would you like to go to the fair with me? It will be fun and full of activities, the games and everything will take your mind right off whatever's bothering you?“ He joked.
“I guess I'll go” I said and he clasps his hands together yelling out a silent thank you. The gesture was unusual and it made me laugh.
“You look beautiful when you laugh” he complimented and I felt my cheeks burn from his words.
“Well Miss champagne, I'll see you tomorrow.“ He said after we exchanged numbers. He would stop by at my house at 6pm, the next day and drive me to the fairgrounds by the beach.
The theme for this year's fair was wonderland. It had all the rides and tunnels. People from all over LA would come to join in the festivities.
I wore my mother's gold necklace and pair of blue jeans and a white shirt to match. I had grown to love the boho chic aesthetic my mother always had on. It was feminine and peaceful. My mother loved the beach and as I walked the sandy shores with Damon by my side, I thought of her.
“What do you do for a living?“ I had asked him.
“I'm a freelancer. A software developer” I would later find that turned out to be a lie. “I want the freedom to do whatever I want”
“I understand. My company started out as a hobby as well. I made customized jewelry for my friends and sold them and now we make diamond necklaces” I was not intending to brag. Perhaps, he saw it that way but he said nothing and smiled.
The evening was just like he had described, fun and entertaining. I had managed to take my mind off Tyler as I rode the ferris wheel and stared into the sky.
“I think it's a good thing we met” I laughed as the wheel took another turn.
The dying sun was shining through the glass and onto his perfect face. I wanted to take a picture of him in his perfection as he stared out the window.
“I think it's a good thing we met as well Mirabella, Trust me... I have way more in stored for you” he turned to face me. “If you would let me”
He covered my cheeks with his hands and stared deeply into my eyes. His hands trailed down my neck to my right shoulder where my “arrow” tattoo was drawn and he rubbed it.
“This might sound strange but I really want to kiss you right now” he stated. His voice dropped an octave as he spoke before tucking my hair behind my ear.
Was this moving too fast? I had just ended a whole year relationship. Was I really about to kiss this man I had known for barely a day?
Adrenaline rushed through me in an instant. Why should I spend my time worrying about a man who cheated on me? I was going to take whatever I wanted. I was going to be selfish... Even if it was just for one day.
So I reached up to him and our lips connected as he took me in, he was rough like the first day I met him, the kind of man who took whatever he wanted and never felt sorry for it, the kind of man who had the most daring of s*x, everything about him was contradictory from who I am. The words that flowed from his lips were nothing but kind and sweet yet his lips against mine was chaotic and demanding, devouring every inch of my core. He pulled me on to his thigh and his hands slid under my shirt, not breaking our kiss for one moment.
It took the cranking of the ferris wheel's metal bars to alert us that the ride was over. Every bit of my lust diminishing with a final dying shriek to ignore the outside world and let him take me on a different type of ride.
Coming back to my senses, I slid off him ending our earth shattering kiss and I grabbed my bag before walking out the ride. My face flushed with embarrassment when I saw the officials standing outside the booth with a mocking look on their faces.
“I hope you had fun, Ms Champagne because I did” he said when we got to the front of my house. He turned to look at me after he stopped the car.
“I did. Thank you for...this” I said too nervous to match his eyes. “I had never pulled a stunt like that in public” I confessed.
“Technically, we were several feets above the ground. That's pretty private to me” he replied smugly.
I let out a small laugh. “I guess so”
“Well, I guess I'll see you again. Ms champagne” he bit his lip and if that wasn't the hottest thing I had ever seen then I don't know what is.
I was about to reach for the door handle when he grabbed my hand. Goosebumps rose all over my skin as he stared deeply into my eyes and when I closed them, I felt his lips once again burning against mine.
This kiss more intense than the last. Choatic and fiery. I opened the door and led him into the privacy of my home. Only this time, we would not be disturbed.
I would later learn the hard rule. Do Not Kiss On The First Date!
After our hot session that night, we became closer. I took him home to my mom Coco she was a little bit hesitant but since she saw how he made me happy.
She told me, "I am glad to see you've moved on from Tyler. I want to always see you happy dear, since he makes you happy. Give it your all"
"Thanks Mum" I said happily and we both hugged.
It made me so happy knowing that I have my parent's approval, because it means a lot to me.
I equally told Elena about him, and she was so elated that she said
"Come on why don't you introduce him officially to me, because I need to have a good look at him to determine if he is the right one for you. We don't want any more heartbreaks now do we?"
"Fine, why don't we go to the beach tomorrow, will your schedule allow it?"
"Nope, I have a case in court tomorrow what about the day after?"
"Its clashing with the opening of that new necklace I just made"
"We'll make it Saturday then, can't wait to see the mystery man behind my best friend's smiles" They both giggled
