Chapter 2

‘Shero May P.O.V’ When the tricycle stopped in front of the university where I was studying, I got off and paid the fare. There were a lot of people in the hallway when I entered school, it’s always like this so I’m not surprised anymore. Talk here, talk there that’s what you hear in the hallway when you pass by. I passed my fellow students in the hallway and walked to where our building was. While walking, I took the v-fresh that was in the pocket of my bag and took the contents of it and chewed it. I stopped walking slightly when I saw a man with a woman, the woman’s arm was hooked on the man’s. I frowned, the man’s face was familiar to me. I continued walking, they were going in my direction. But I didn’t care, I just looked straight at the people walking and didn’t seem to notice them. “Ethan, can we go on a date later after class?” I heard the woman ask the man with an artistic voice. Thank you! The man’s name is familiar, but I can’t remember where I met him or saw him. I just shrugged my shoulders and went to the classroom. When I entered the classroom, my classmates were doing their own things, I went to my seat and sat there. I quietly took my notes from the bag and studied our topic for the day. I just hid the notes when our teacher came. When the class was over, I packed my stuff and left the classroom, I didn’t have any friends, unlike others who have circles of friends. It’s not my business to make friends, I’m not like the others who can’t go in without friends. And another thing is that you can’t be sure that the friend you think is really your friend because others are pretenders. I don’t have confidence so I prefer to be alone. Every time I go in, I bring a bag for lunch, to reduce expenses and when I eat, I prefer to keep my distance from people, I don’t mix with others. Because I prefer a quiet place. I went to my usual place where I had lunch and hung out, but this place was hidden and my fellow students didn’t go so it was quiet. I feel calm whenever I’m in a quiet place with fresh air. I placed the tupperware on the wooden table and sat on the opposite bench. I opened the tupperware and closed my eyes before praying fervently then I started eating, I ate silently until I finished. I fixed my food and put it back in the plastic. I took my notes to study again, it’s boring to study but I have no choice but to improve. Shame on the one who is teaching me, and I won’t disappoint Kuya Gelo even more. I sighed and moved the page of notes. A few minutes passed, I looked at my watch. It’s getting dark, I packed my things and stood up. While walking back to our building, I was stunned when I heard men talking in a corner, hidden part where it was. I stopped walking and quickly hid. “Come home later, watch for Ethan around the corner, near the school. Block his car. Call me if you’ve done it and I’ll come, just taste it but he’s still part of me,” a man said with a smile , tall and with moderate fat leaning in my direction, it was also accompanied by three men. I frowned, is the Ethan they are referring to the Ethan I met earlier? What sin did it do to them? But still, he was in danger. I held my breath and shook my head, men like to argue, you’d think that’s where strength is measured. Tsk, they wouldn’t care if he didn’t do anything wrong. Ethan, I’ll remember that. It’s just my conscience if I don’t help you. Thank you I waited for them to leave before coming out of hiding and as if nothing had happened walked back to our building and entered the classroom. When the class started, I listened, I was looking at the teacher and what he was teaching but my brain was not keeping up with what I was doing because it was flying and wondering if I should pay attention to what I heard earlier or ignore it just. I sighed twice when I heard the teacher’s announcement that we had a long quiz. I took my long pad from the bag and took it out. I wrote my name above. Shero May C. Manzon I cringed at my own name, I didn’t want to hear someone call me Shero. Because only one person has the right to call me and that’s important to me. So everyone who knows me is called May. I adjusted my seat and listened to the question before answering. Twenty minutes passed and the quiz was finally over, and we passed it to the front. A few hours passed when he finally went home. I stood up and fixed the bag. When I left school, I didn’t know if I was going to stop the tricycle to go home or go to the corner and hide to wait for the men and become their target to watch. I sighed, because I chose the latter. Tsk, I walked until I reached a corner that was just near the school. I sighed and hid behind the wall making sure they couldn’t see me. I took a v-fresh from my pocket and opened it and chewed. I looked at my wristwatch, I wouldn’t be late for work if I spent a few minutes on it. I came earlier than those who would block him. To this day the man’s name is still a puzzle to me, I’ve heard his name but I just can’t remember where I heard it. Ethan. After waiting a few moments, I heard footsteps and men talking. I peeked a little to see them, I was just shocked to see how many there were. Tsk, hesitate. I went back to hiding and leaned against the wall while chewing bubble gum. I have to think of a plan. I should have just approached the guy named Ethan earlier at school, the case is that I don’t know him and I don’t know which part of the school he is in. It’s just my conscience if I ignore it. I can only shake my head from what the men who are waiting are talking about. Again, a few minutes later I heard a car honking loudly. “Hey, get over there!” I heard a man speak, his voice was baritone and familiar. It’s him and I’m sure. I heard the men’s laughter. “We won’t stand aside, get down from there if you don’t want us to hit your car, use this-,” said a man and I saw him raise the stick he was holding. I sighed and gently tapped the wall with my finger, hoping he wasn’t too crazy to get out of the car. But because he was crazy, a few seconds later he got out of the car. “What do you need?” he asked with a slight frown. He was facing my direction, and that was the only time I could properly look at his face. He was really familiar, because he was the man I saw near our place, he even introduced himself. A man looked at his colleague and nodded, a man picked up the cellphone and called someone. It seems that their leader is being called. After that, the man faced his colleagues. “Boss is on his way.” “I’m asking, what do you need?” he asked again, of Ethan. “We don’t need you. You’re overreacting and you need to learn a lesson,” a man replied. He frowned again. “I don’t remember doing anything wrong with you, I don’t even know you.” Again the men laughed. “We don’t have it, but our boss has it. You just kidn*pped his girlfriend. So this is the payment for what you did.” His forehead furrowed even more. “What? I didn’t know what are you talking about. So let me go.” “We won’t let you through,” one of the men said with a dog grin. “You’re such a womanizer. Even our boss’s girlfriend was f****d by you.” One added. I couldn’t stop a soft laugh from coming out of my mouth, I couldn’t help but laugh because of the scenario I was seeing. A group of men blocked a man because of a woman. Is it love? The man shook his head, he was about to turn around and go back to the car when two men stopped him and violently grabbed him by the shoulders. “You can’t leave.” “Let go of me or else, I’ll call a police,” he said threateningly. The men laughed. “You can’t do that Ramirez.” He glared at the men and struggled but received two consecutive punches to the stomach. I just shook my head when the men started hitting him. Poor Ethan, can’t even fight. Thank you I left leaning against the wall and came out of the hiding place. I snorted hard to get their attention, I secretly grinned for a few seconds then they all looked at me at the same time and stopped hurting the man. “Who are you and what are you doing here?” asked a man, the one who punched Ethan twice. I looked at him, at Ethan. I shook my head when I saw that the edge of his lip was cracked, just one blow would destroy it immediately? “I’m May, I just passed by. And what are you doing here?” My question is serious and emotionless. They looked at each other. “Hold the woman and she might run away and report,” the man ordered, referring to me. “Tsk,” I quickly grabbed both hands of the man who was about to grab me by the shoulder. I violently grabbed and tightened my grip on both of his wrists. It inhaled strongly and moaned. “Arghh! It hurts, let go of my hand!” I shook my head and grinned before twisting both of its wrists. “I asked properly, you answered differently.” I said in a lifeless voice before looking around, I looked at them one by one and finally I looked at Ethan causing our eyes to meet, I looked away and looked at the person holding him. “Let him go.” “And why should we follow you?” one asked angrily, I grinned. “You want to know the answer?” I asked with a smirk, I quickly kneed the man I was holding and kicked him in the stomach. I moved forward, dodging the wood that I was holding, my every count was fast so as not to get hit and when I found the time, I hit the wood that was being held by him, just like I did to a man earlier, I violently grabbed his wrist , with one hand I took the wood he was holding and then I put his same hand on his own back and with one foot I pushed his back onto the cement causing him to wince in pain. “What? Are you going to let him go or are you going to catch them one by one?” I focused my eyes on all of them and pressed the foot on the back of the man who is still writhing in pain. They all swallowed hard and hesitated whether to follow me or not. I picked up the fallen wood and pointed at them. “Answer?” Without hesitation the two let go of Ethan’s shoulders, afraid of what happened to their colleague. I smirked before removing my foot from the man’s back, and released my grip on his hand before walking over to Ethan and casually pulling him into his car. It was weak and I heard its weak moans from the bruises and wounds from beating him. I quickly got inside and sat in the passenger seat. “Hurry up, drive,” I ordered and looked out the window, the men were already walking towards the car we were in. “My body hurts,” I heard him complain. “Your hand will drive, not your whole body. Go ahead if you don’t want me to push you out and let those men party again,” I said seriously, he looked outside where the men were. Without hesitation he revved the car’s engine and maneuvered it away. That’s the only time I breathed a sigh of relief.
