CHAPTER 3 ‘Shero May P.O.V’ I stopped the car on the side, far from where we came from, far from the men. “I’m leaving, it’s up to you to treat yourself.” I said and slightly looked at him, a soft moan came out of his mouth. “My body aches.” He said, and slightly touched the side of the lip causing it to moan. “Tsk, you can’t die.” I answered, I said I was going to leave but I couldn’t move my legs to get out, something was stopping me. “Arghh! Don’t you even feel sorry for me? My body is already hurting, you’re still treating me like this?” He asked and turned to me, he was stunned for a moment and stared at me. “You look familiar.” It is poorly pronounced. I looked away. “I’m leaving.” I was about to open the car door when he spoke. “We have met. You are the girl who suddenly disappeared.” He exclaimed and pointed at me a little. “Are you out of your mind? Or were you shaken earlier?” He frowned when I asked him. He shook his head twice. “I’m not wrong. You’re that girl down the road. Don’t you remember me?” “Tsk. I need to go.” I completely opened the door of his car. “Wait!” it stopped me from closing the door. “What?” “I just want to say thank you for helping me. You don’t need to go, I’ll take you there as a thank you.” He said and smiled slightly. I shook my head. “No need, I’ll just commute.” “No, I’ll take you.” When he insisted, I just shook my head in disapproval and waved my hand and closed his car door before walking away. I didn’t go home anymore, I immediately went to town, to the place where I worked. When I arrived at the soup kitchen there weren’t many people eating yet, I walked inside and there I met Marla, Aling Betty and Manong Berting. Marla smiled at me and walked towards me, she stopped when she looked at my arm, she pointed to the side of my arm with her index finger. “What happened there?” This question caused me to also look at my own arm. I responded with a shrug, before turning my back on him to put the bag down on the seat. “Hey, what happened to your bruise?” This is a catchy question. Even Mang Berting and Aling Betty are asking questions. “It doesn’t exist.” I answered, maybe this is the bruise I got earlier that I didn’t notice. I put on the apron and faced them. “Do I have to deliver something?” I will ask. Mang Berting nodded. “Give it to the first table, six orders.” He spoke and handed me the tray with only six bowls with only porridge. I walked out again carrying the tray. As said I put it on the orderer’s table. After I landed, I left and went back inside. As is always the routine whenever I work, that’s what happened today, until twelve o’clock in the morning came and only then we would go home. The work is tiring but I have no choice but to continue, it’s a waste of money. I put my backpack on my back before walking away. I can’t go with Marlo or Marla because her boyfriend picked her up. I got on the tricycle and drove home. As I always find every time I come home, the door is closed and there is no light. I went back to the back of the house and went through there to enter the house. I’m hungry, I haven’t been able to eat before because of the number of customers we have at the lugawan. I went inside my room and put on my pajamas, then I went out again to look for something to eat in the kitchen. But when I looked, there was nothing, no dish left for me, no food to cook. I sighed before walking back to the room and took my own money, I’m just going to buy something outside. I just hope there is another store open. The store closest to our house was closed so I looked for another store that was still open. Fortunately, there is another store open, just a short distance from us. It’s not dark where I’m walking because there are street lights, so I don’t have a problem with that. After I arrived at the store, I bought what I wanted to buy, instant noodles and a bag of bread. I also bought instant coffee for tomorrow. I was walking back home when I stopped, there were two men walking in my direction, obviously drunk. I chewed the bubble gum in my mouth and played with it. I didn’t deviate from the road, I was still driving until I was about to pass them when I heard what one of the men said. “Poor that father earlier, dude, he’s beaten up. He has such a high opinion of himself.” Drunkenly talking about it with a friend. “He is proud of his son who is in a foreign country, Gelo has nothing to do with them. And he has another son abroad, it is useless.” His partner’s response caused me to stop completely, my jaw went black before facing them. “What did you say?” I said in a cold voice, full of seriousness. Both adults grinned. I have respect and I don’t care that they said I’m worthless and that I’m just an outsider, but for them to include my older brother is a different matter. “Aren’t we right? You’re just your father’s illegitimate son and your big brother is worthless because he’s proud of your good father-.” He couldn’t finish what he was saying because I punched him right in the face. “The next time you say that, you won’t just hit me. I have respect for you so I’ll let it go, don’t let me lose my respect for you because you don’t want that to happen.” I said without emotion before I turned my eyes to the two men. I turned and continued walking home leaving them dumbfounded and angry. I just sighed. … The next morning I woke up a little late but I just sped up my movements to get in early, our house is not that big but we hardly see mom and dad anymore. Even though the relationship between the three of us is like that, they are still my family. And I couldn’t help but worry about my father because it turned out that he was beaten. I bought a dish at the store early and as soon as I woke up and cooked for our breakfast, I also cooked what I will eat for lunch. When I had prepared everything that needed to be fixed, I slung my bag over my shoulder and left the house. I didn’t knock on dad’s bedroom door anymore, I just left a note on the table before leaving. While walking in the hallway, like the usual morning every time I go in, there are many students scattered on the way, chatting, some are on the side doing the unfinished project, I heard the voices of some women for some unknown reason but I didn’t that paid attention and just continued walking. “Psst. Miss beautiful!” I heard a familiar voice shout but I didn’t turn around but continued walking. “Hey miss beautiful!” It called again, the women’s cries grew louder, but I didn’t turn around. Miss Ganda is not my name, so why should I turn around? “Babe!” It called loudly again, I knew it was close to my direction so I sped up walking without making it obvious. “Babe, wait!” Because of his calling, the people around murmured. I frowned when I noticed some people looking at me. I stopped walking when someone grabbed my elbow, I sighed before facing the person who grabbed me. I looked at his face, staring at him with a serious face. “Let go of me.” I said seriously while not breaking my gaze with him. He looked at his own hand holding my elbow and quickly released his grip on me. “I’m calling you, you’re not looking back.” It’s language, the conversation is different. “You didn’t call my name, why should I turn around?” I still seriously asked him. It sighed. “I’ve been calling you for four times, babe. I don’t know your name that’s why I called you Miss beautiful and babe.” This is it. “Listen, Ramirez.” I stared at it intently. “First, my name is not Miss Ganda, secondly, it’s not that.” It grinned. “What is that?” “What you said.” My answer. “What did I say?” He asked dead maliciously. I took a deep breath. “Are you kidding me?” It shook its head. “No, what did I say?” It’s a question again. “Nothing.” I said seriously and turned away from him, ignoring the people who were looking at us. I was about to take a step when he spoke again. “Let’s go together.” This and this one grabbed my wrist and pulled me. I couldn’t help but feel surprised because of what he did and his hand touching me again so that my defense voluntarily gave in and encouraged him. “Woii, what? Don’t pull me.” I looked at him, he looked at me and smiled. He removed his hand from my wrist and placed it on my shoulder, my left hand moved spontaneously and elbowed him in the stomach then with my right hand I quickly grabbed his hand that was holding me and placed it behind him causing him to moan pain “Don’t put your arm around me, you understand?” I said no emotion before letting him go. He grimaced and felt the pain slightly. “You are very sadistic.” He complained, the eyes I fixed on him were sharp. “I’m not going to walk you, I’m going to hug you.” He was about to get close when I blocked him with my hand. “I’m just kidding.” Take it back. “Tsk.” I continued to walk again, it went along with me. “What’s your name? I asked you before, but you didn’t answer me.” It’s like this and I can feel it looking at me. “Why are you asking? Didn’t you say it wasn’t important?” I stopped and looked at him. “That’s important now.” He said and looked at me too. I shrugged my shoulders and continued walking again. “If you don’t tell, I’ll continue calling you babe.” “Are you challenging me, Ramirez?” It grinned at me. “Not at all, babe.” I answered this without revealing that I was stunned when it called me again. “How did you know my surname?” “I heard one of the men call you yesterday.” I answered directly, he nodded. “What’s your name?” He asked again, scowling and not intending to stop. “Find out.” I smiled and left him. … When I entered the classroom, I immediately went to my seat and sat down. The teacher came and the class started until the end. Lunch passed, I’m very thankful and Ramirez didn’t bother me, until I went home. When I got home, I went home to home and didn’t bother with the soup. After I got home there, I couldn’t help but smile when I saw who the person was. Fortunately, I went home and caught up with his arrival. “Shiro.” It called with a smile, I quickly walked over to it and hugged it. “Brother.” I replied, I could feel it hugging me back. He broke away from hugging me and stared at me. “You’ve lost weight. What happened? Your fat body is gone.” Commenting on my body, I looked down. “I’m fine Brother, maybe I just lost weight.” I smiled lightly at him, he sighed. We both stopped talking when mom and dad came out of the kitchen. “Oh what are you doing here, May?” Mom asked. “Mom, what kind of question is that?” There is a hint of annoyance in Kuya’s voice. “I’m just going home for a while to change and leave my stuff.” I answered in a serious voice, I don’t want to be pitied and act innocent and always a victim. I looked at Kuya and nodded slightly before going inside my room to get dressed. “We’ll talk later.” Kuya spoke seriously when I passed by it. “I’ll be home at twelve.” My answer. “I’ll wait for you, we’ll talk.” He said with authority, I nodded before saying goodbye, I looked at mom and dad who were now both eating chocolate brought by Kuya. “I’m leaving.” I said goodbye, I didn’t wait for their answer and left.
