Rebel's POV:
Shadow called for a rideshare and we head into the city. The bright flashing lights were so breathtaking. I stared out the window watching the world pass me by. I would chuckle to myself when he would steal glances at me when he thought I wasn't paying attention. I actually thought it was adorable. I couldn't help the blush that flushed across my face. We stopped in front of a very tall skyscraper one of the tallest I've ever seen in my life. We took the elevator all the way up to the penthouse suite. We walked in and he threw his keys in a decorative bowl. I stood there admiring all the different pieces of art on the wall one piece really caught my eye. I have seen something like it in my dreams.
"Wow these are beautiful." I complimented.
"Make yourself comfortable." He says as he disappears into another room.
I hear the trickling of water beating against the glass partition a few minutes after then singing.
"Whoa he can sing?" I say to Remy.
"His voice is amazing." She fawns.
"Careful Remy you're drooling," I laugh.
"So!" She says laughing along with me.
Twenty minutes later a smoke screen of steam exits the bathroom followed by Shadow. He was shirtless in a pair of black sweats. His body is still glistening with beads of water.
" Damn he's extremely sexy." I say to Remy
She lets out a low wolf whistle as we check out his sculpted body.
"I have some t-shirts and some sweats if you want to shower." He offers.
It's been a long day and a shower sounded like heaven plus these shoes were killing me.
"I think I'll take you up on that offer" I smile.
He leads me to the bathroom pulling a warm towel from the heated linen closet. Then stepped out of my way so I could get to it. The hot water wraps around my body sending calming waves throughout. I sighed as I try to come to terms with everything that has happened tonight.
"Don't let it get to you Rebel. Let's stay in the moment and enjoy ourselves for once."
"Your right." I say shaking the the negative thoughts away.
I finally got out drying myself off I looked in my purse for my deodorant and body lotion. After applying them to my body I put my hair into a messy bun. I folded my clothes and headed back into the living room. I sat my clothes on the couch beside me.
He sat next to me with a big plate of nachos.
" Ouu Yummy," I say making grabby hands as the aroma tickles my nose.
"Oh thank Goddess you're not one of those I don't eat carbs chicks."
"Nah I love food." I say biting into a chip.
He grabs the remote and turns on an action comedy then settle back into the couch. We watched the movie and continued eating. I haven't felt this at peace in a long time. I lay my head on his shoulder and he placed his arm around my waist pulling me closer into his warmth.
Shadow's POV:
I couldn't stand the look on her face she just seemed so sad. What her mother tried to do to her tonight was unacceptable. As she showered I decided to whip up some nachos. I just wanted her to relax if only for the night. I'm happy that I purchased this penthouse a month ago. It's my place of respite. She relaxed as we watched the movie and finished our food. She let her guard down a little and let me hold her. I wanted to kiss her so bad but didn't want to pressure her. It seemed that she was already going through enough. Finally she closed her eyes and fell asleep still wrapped in my embrace. Thank Goddess, father made me go to this party. I thought to myself as I drifted off to sleep.
Rebel's POV:
I woke up the next morning still wrapped in Shadow's embrace. I haven't slept that well in such a long time. I snuggled back into his warmness enjoying the feeling of being stress free. Part of me wished that I could stay like this forever but I knew I had to go home eventually. He opened his eyes staring at me through his lashes. The look of adoration as he looked down at me was flooring.
"Good morning," he says in the sexiest sleepy voice I've ever heard.
"Good morning" I reply back stretching picking up my clothes. I stepped into the bathroom washed my face and got dressed. I quickly brushed my teeth and exited the bathroom. He was standing there waiting with two big mugs of hot cocoa. We talked as we finished our drinks and found out we had a lot in common. Soon after I stood to leave not wanting to overstay my welcome.
"You don't have to go you know. I mean if you don't want to of course."
"Are you asking me to stay?"
"Well yes, but only if you want to. No pressure at all."
I thought for a moment. This is the first time ever anyone has ever considered how I felt. Plus I am having such a good time with Shadow.
"Sure why not" I shrug cuddling back on the couch with him.
A huge smile spreads across his face as he wraps his arms around me. At this moment my phone decided to go off I looked at it and sighed.
"Yes mother?" I answered feeling a bit agitated again.
"Rebel Rainwater where in the hell are you? You have your father and I worried sick." She reprimands.
"You do realize I am an adult mother."
"You need to come home immediately. We have dinner with Alpha Jeremiah and his family."
"Really Mother? This is so typical of you. You didn't call out of worry for me. You called to ensure that you could pawn me off for your merger."
"The Morningstar's are a very prominent family Rebel, you should be proud to be married into such a family."
"Ughhh I am not coming to this dinner and I'm definitely not marrying Alpha Jeremiah's son. Goodbye Mother." I say hanging up the phone.
She continued to call but I refused to answer it.
"Unfuckingbelievable." I snap feeling my blood pulsing through my eardrums. "She is really a piece of work."
I place my head my hands trying to catch my breath and remain calm. Sometimes I understand why daddy cheats that woman is impossible.
Shadow's POV
Poor Rebel I thought my mouth hanging open in disbelief from what I was hearing. How could her own mother treat her that way. Like a business transaction.
I felt Blaze pacing back and forth in my head. Both of us sharing the same frustration. I wanted to take the pain away. I wanted to take her away from all of this but it had to be her choice. I would not be one of those people adding more pressure to her. I would not take her free will away even if she is my mate. I sat down next to her grasping her hand letting her know I was there if she needed me. She squeezed it gratefully.
We sat there for awhile in silence she was lost somewhere in her own thoughts finally she breaks the silence.
"Well you've seen my s**t show of a life, tell me something about yours. " She laughs mirthlessly.
"I mean there's not really much to tell. I'm overly protected by my parents because I'm the next heir to the Alpha throne. I mean I know they mean well but it feels like I have no control over my own life."
"Wait, wait, wait, back up you're Prince Shadow?"
"Yeah that's me."
"Oh my freaking Goddess, you don't act like any prince I've ever met. " she gasps.
"Meaning?"
"You're so down to earth. You don't walk around with your head stuffed up you ass."
I covered my mouth to stifle a laugh. She was so straightforward I liked that about her.
"Well I'm glad you approve." I say tucking her into my side.
I felt some of the tension release as I drew tiny circles on her back. She smiled up at me this time it reached her eyes.
"What?" I ask
"I just want to thank you for being so kind to me. I mean I know you don't really know me but this is the most kindness anyone has ever shown me."
"Anytime my love," I smile back with hope filling my chest to capacity.
She leaned into the warmth of my chest letting out a happy sigh. I kissed the crown of her head and we stayed that way for the remainder of the afternoon.
