Chapter 5

The brightest light is found at the end of the darkest tunnel. That's what my nana used to tell me. I never understood what she meant by that until now. Shadow was the bright light at the end of my dark tunnel. It's been a year and I remained true to my word I have not stepped foot back into my parents house nor have I spoken to my mother. My father and I still have a very great and loving relationship though. Tonight King Omarion and Queen Rashida were holding a celebration in honor of the blood moon. Every pack would be in attendance. I was actually excited for this one as I would also be introduced as Shadow's luna. I was out shopping for something to wear with Queen Rashida she has become like a surrogate mother to me. In this year alone I've learned more from her than my mother has ever taught me.

"What do you think of this one?" She asks, placing a strapless pink dress against me.

"Too pink"

"I'll never get you and my son's fascination with black and leather" she laughs.

"It's a great combination" I shrug

She picked up another dress and held it against me. "Perfect" she smiles.

It was a beautiful black lace mermaid formal evening gown with long sleeves.

"Wow" I say "Shadow would absolutely love this being that he's never seen me in a dress."

"Really?" She asks as her eyebrows shoot to her hairline "never?"

"Nope it's just not my thing."

"Oh girly we are doing a full makeover today." She laughs

I face palm myself "oh Goddess what did I just get myself into?" I chuckle.

After paying for the dress she literally dragged me out of the store to the hair salon. After what seemed like hours she turned me to see the finished product.

"Oh my goddess," I say not believing the image staring back at me was me. Tears began to stream down my eyes.

"You're beautiful Rebel" she said wrapping me in her embrace.

I looked down at the floor a blush staining my face.

"Come on we got one more stop."

We entered the shoe store and purchased a pair of burgundy stilettos covered with black lace. We head back to the pack house and I go to a guest room to get ready for the evening. I wanted to surprise Shadow tonight. I tied my hair up and showered. The hot steamy water making me feel relaxed and energized. After showering I dry of moisturizing my body with my vanilla amber bourbon lotion along with a body spray of the same name. I applied my makeup keeping it as natural as possible then carefully slipped into my gown. I pulled my hair back down around my face and stepped into my shoes. I finished the look with pair of ruby studs and a necklace with a ruby heart pendant. I took a look in the full length mirror and was floored.

"We look amazing." Remy beamed.

"We do" I agreed.

"Wait I been meaning to ask there's a big chance Claudette will be there are you gonna be okay?"

"I mean I guess like what more could she really do to me at this point." I head down the steps and into the waiting car. Shadow was going to meet me there.

We arrived at a very elegant hotel deep in the city. I stood admiring the beautiful decorations and light fixtures surrounding it. There was a tap on my shoulder and I slowly turned around.

Shadow's jaw dropped to the floor as I revealed my look.

"I'm at a lost for words baby, you look stunning."

"Thank you," I blush while taking in his attire.

He looked extremely sexy in his midnight black suit and burgundy dress shirt he left a few buttons open to show off his very defined chest. He also wore a pair of burgundy loafers to match. His dreads were neatly braided back.

"And you look absolutely delicious" I replied.

He offered me his arm and I took it as we head deeper into the ballroom. We made our rounds greeting all the other Alphas and Lunas from other packs. I was having an amazing time. There was live music playing. The beating of the drum made me want to move my hips. I swayed my hips seductively against Shadow. He gripped my hips tightly and swayed along with me to a seductive rendition of dance for you by Beyonce. We danced like nobody else was watching it was just him and I in the moment.

"I like the way you move" he whispered against my ear the warmth of his breath tickling my eardrums. "Maybe you can show me some of them later when we get home."

I stared at him through my lashes giving him the sexiest smirk I could muster. "Maybe I will " I replied lust lacing my voice.

The music died down and the last person I wanted to see came storming towards me.

No please goddess no, I thought to myself. I'm having such a pleasant night.

Shadow's POV:

The look on Rebel's face was priceless. For once she was living in the moment and enjoying herself. I was excited about tonight. She would formally be becoming my Luna tonight. When danced until the music stopped and that's when trouble came storming our way.

"How dare you show your face at this event" she barked. "And to show up with him of all people. You have brought shame to our family."

If only she knew how ridiculous she sounded.

"First off do not disrespect my husband Mother. Secondly I've done nothing wrong to be ashamed of."

Before Claudette could respond my father motioned for everyone's attention.

"Thank you everyone for coming. Tonight is indeed a very special night. Not only are we here to celebrate the sacred moon but on this night we are also celebrating another special event. As you all know my son is set to take over as King in a few years. My wife and I are proud to say we will head into that era with not only a great king but by his side a beautiful queen. So please help me in welcoming the future of the Heart pack Shadow and Rebel Heart. The room explodes in applause at I take Rebel's hand and lead her to the front. It wasn't lost on me the total look of embarrassment that was on her mother's face or the look of pride on her father's.

"Thank you it is a honor to be the future Luna of the Heart pack I will do my best to make you all proud. The room erupts in applause again but as I look across the room her mother is anything but happy. A bad feeling was tugging at my belly but I pushed it down and tried to shake the thought away. That look in her mother's eyes was haunting me. I would protect her at all cause from anybody and everything including her mother if needed.
