The summoning rules
"Beyond the human world, there exists a realm of rock and fire known as the Abyss. Inhabiting the Abyss are creatures capable of withstanding high temperatures and toxic gases, commonly referred to as demons. Two thousand years ago, a dimensional mage discovered the summoning rules, bringing forth the first Abyss demon. Thus, the profession of demon summoner was born. Kagaso, a minor lord, ruled over a territory consisting solely of an active volcano that erupted once a year. During the intervals between eruptions, some stranded demons struggled to survive in this harsh environment. The space within each Abyss was limited, and crossing from one Abyss to another required the Abyss Grand Lord to tear through the dimensional barrier. For demons like Kagaso, such a feat seemed unimaginable. The peaceful and fertile lands were occupied by more powerful demons, but Kagaso inherited the volcano from his father. The mighty demons disdained this place, subject to annual destruction and rebirth due to volcanic eruptions. Nevertheless, Kagaso was the leader here. However, he was not content. Often standing atop the mountain, he gazed towards the distance where the vast Golden Plains lay. The golden sandy terrain concealed numerous low-level demons, making it a hunting ground. "The unchanging scenery, I've been looking at it for a thousand years," Kagaso frowned elegantly, running his fingers through his refined features, unable to erase the melancholy on his face. "I've had enough!" He exclaimed, lifting a book and looking towards the perpetually dim, sulfur-scented sky. "I've truly had enough of this dirty and chaotic wasteland!" With a cry, crimson lightning almost tore through the zenith. Kagaso remained undaunted, letting the wild wind tousle his golden strands, akin to a ray of sunlight in the pitch-black night. Undeniably, Kagaso was a beautiful humanoid demon. Advanced demons typically possessed humanoid appearances, and Kagaso seemed more delicate. He had luminous emerald eyes and waist-length hair resembling golden flames, inherited from his father. However, demons of this kind had a fatal flaw: extremely low combat capability. Demon levels were determined by soul energy, and mighty souls often had sharp cognitive abilities. The ability to think independently beyond instinctual reactions became the watershed between advanced and lower-level demons. Therefore, Kagaso was undoubtedly an advanced demon. Yet, his slender and delicate physique did not match his keen intellect. Fortunately, the volcano where he resided was a harsh abode that mighty demons scorned, and his ancestral castle, having endured generations, had some basic defense mechanisms. Sometimes, even Kagaso himself wondered why he had lived so long without being killed. His father lived for only two hundred years, and his grandfather less than a hundred—barely reaching maturity. Yet, he had lived for eleven hundred years. His prolonged life allowed him to accumulate vast knowledge. Few demons knew that within this forsaken land, experiencing destruction and rebirth every year, lived an anomaly who pondered not on expanding territory or increasing strength but on how to leave, permanently leave this place for the human world— a world most demons had scarcely heard of, with golden sunlight, pure air, clear water, abundant small creatures, and intelligent yet belligerent humans. Everything was vastly different from the Abyss. "Ah." Kagaso let out a long sigh, slowly withdrawing his hand. The book he held displayed prominent words: 'Summoning Rules.' This summoning rule took Kagaso hundreds of years and considerable effort to compile. To prevent its oxidation in the harsh Abyss environment, Kagaso copied it every month, supplementing it with newly acquired knowledge. His obsession bewildered many demons who knew him. Kagaso had become a seasoned researcher of summoning rules. Though he couldn't use spatial magic, years of accumulation provided him with ample data, and he conducted simple spatial magic experiments. Even he didn't know that his meticulously maintained summoning rule manuscript was probably the most complete in the entire Abyss. Kagaso was not a demon who believed in rumors. To secure his territory in the competitive Abyss, he possessed some intellect. However, his obsession with the human world had reasons— a secret deeply buried in his heart, unknown even to his late father. He had visited the human world, precisely during the peak of summoning a thousand years ago. It was an unforgettable experience, though he spent less than five minutes there! Five minutes were too brief; he hadn't even had a real interaction with humans. Yet, these five minutes made him willing to spend a lifetime waiting—he could never forget that world with golden sunlight and clean water. He had made all preparations, mastered the summoning rules, and given another chance, he was confident of permanently staying in the human world. But why had no dimensional portal opened? Kagaso was unwilling; he knew that demons with summoning records were easily summoned again. Summoners merely needed to replicate the previous summoning array and call out the demon's name. To safeguard his spatial coordinates, Kagaso had never left his territory for a thousand years. But why had no one summoned him again? Was his reputation in the human world so tarnished that no one wanted to summon him? Or was it because, with his strengthened powers over the years, humans lacked the ability to open a summoning gate large enough to accommodate him? No, this couldn't be true. "A thousand years, if I could visit that world again, even if it meant my death, I would die without regrets. How many more thousand years do I have to wait?" Five hundred years had passed, and within Kagaso's known range, no dimensional portal had opened. Why? What was the reason? It was said that even the ten Demon Kings capable of breaking spatial barriers couldn't find that world. Had the human world ceased to exist? He lamented, hanging his head in vexation, tormented by these unsettling speculations. Perhaps he should think more about how to make himself more summonable. Just then, the space in front of him suddenly vibrated violently..."
