Jason POV
Shit I could hear someone coming in through the back door. The only thing I could think of was to hide inside her closet and pray they don’t open it. I jumped into the closed and closed the door, holding my breath, I could hear them walking down the hall way towards Summer’s room. They walked in and turned off the light and walked straight back out the back door locking it as they went. I release the breath I was holding with a whoosh ‘f**k that was close’. It was time for me to leave, I tidied up the best I could and left before whoever that was came back.
Summer POV
I woke from a knock on my bedroom door, I rolled over with a grown “yeah.” Katie stuck her head in “hey, are you hungry because mum just texted, she said breakfast is 20min away to come on over.” I smiled then my tummy rumbled and we both cracked up laughing “I take that as a yes. Hurry up and get your ass out of bed and get ready, you got 10min.”
I laughed “Alright you don’t have to tell me twice.” It was the fastest I have ever moved. I managed to shower, brush teeth, brush hair, get dress and make my bed with seconds to spear.
We stepped onto Katie’s front lawn, it was approaching summer so it was quite warm. I sniffed the fresh, clean air. It smelt of pine and water “is there a lake or river nearby?” “Yeah, it’s about half a mile on the other side of them tress, she was pointing west. “Really! We should go for a swim later?” Katie laughed “sure but it might be a bit cold.” I shrugged my shoulders “I don’t care.” As we approached the edge of her yard where the it met the tree line a path leading into the trees appeared. We were only walking for about minutes when a huge log house came into view with floor to ceiling windows that stretched around nearly two thirds of the house, it was beautiful. I didn’t realize I had stopped to admire the house until Katie tugged on my shirt to make me move along. “This is my parents home.” “Wow Katie, it is beautiful. Is this where you lived growing up?” “Yeah.” “It’s amazing, you are so lucky to live in a place like this.” Katie sigh and whispered “Yeah.” I looked at my friend, she didn’t have that bright look about her or the sparkle in her eye that she always. My poor friend was sad. I couldn’t take it anymore; I reached for her and gave her a big hung. When we pulled away from each other, I still had a grip of her shoulders. She had tears in her eyes “hey, talk to me. If you are not happy you don’t have to go through this mating.” She gave me a sad smile “yes I do and I’m ok. I’m just a bit scared of the unknown, if you know what I mean.” I pulled her in for another hug “I know and you know I’m here for you, always.” “Katie sighed “I know that’s why we are best friends.” I squeezed her tighter. Before I could release her Mrs Waywood was standing on the porch yelling “come on you two, breakfast is ready.” We laughed and ran to great Mrs Waywood. She reached for Katie first giving her a big hug and a kiss “how is my baby girl?” “I’m good mom.” She looked Katie in the eye while cupping her cheek, gave her a soft smile “you know we love you?” Katie smiled in returned and nodded. Mrs Waywood hugged me next giving me a kiss on the cheek “Oh it is so lovely to see you again Summer” “You too Mrs Waywood.” She released me from her hug “please I told you to call me Ann” “ok Ann.” She smile and we walked into the house. As we entered through the solid oak double doors, we walked into an entry room inside the house that had a coat room to the right. Katie grabbed her mom’s arm “hey mom! Did you talk to dad about….you know….Summer knowing about shifters?” She smile at us both and said “yes I did. He wasn’t too happy but after I reminded him what you are sacrificing for the pack, he is ok with it.” “And what about Gab?” “Well you know what your bother is like.” Katie sigh “yeah.” “Don’t you worry about him, your father is still the alpha and his decision is final but that want stop him from giving his opinion.” Ann said laughing. “Come on, breakfast is getting cold.”
I walked into a room that took my breath away ‘wow’. It was all open plan, with exposed beams. The windows showed a spectacular view of the mountains, the lake with the sun shining off it. The lounge was sunken with a Dark gray rap around sofa in the shape of a U with big, fat, fluffy cushions. The dining room table was to towards the end of the area with floor to ceiling glass that lead out to a huge deck for entertaining. The kitchen had stat of the art appliances, with granite top counters and a massive walk in pantry. All in all the entire place was beautiful.
Katie looked around “where is dad?” “I’m here!” a huge smile grew on Katie’s face when she saw her dad and ran over ‘Dad’ giving him a huge hug and a kiss on the cheek. I smiled, Katie said she was a daddy’s girl. Without releasing Katie, Mr Waywood turned his attention on me “I hear you know about our secret?” “Yes sir, and I can assure you your secret is safe with me, I swear on my life.” He smiled, a kind, gentle smile, you know a smile that makes you feel like everything is going to be ok and makes your heart soften. “I know you won’t dear. Katie here loves you like a sister, which practically makes you family. And please call me Brian.” I beamed at the thought of being a part of this family and nodded a yes in response. “Come now, breakfast is getting cold and I’m not going to reheat anything.”
We were all siting around the table talking, laughing while eating our breakfast when the most gorgeous man I have ever seen walked into the house. He was breathtaking and he was staring directly at me. I was so caught up in his magnificent I didn’t even hear squeal ‘Gabriel’!
