Chapter 5- Preparation

486 Words
ISLA POV "I can do this" I kept repeating this to myself over and over as I made my way across the claiming grounds. Fortunately I had come across this area a long time ago when sneaking off to let Aria out for a run. The claiming grounds are only used during the event so I had spent a lot of time here before I left for the institute. After my last visit to the pack when the Alpha informed me of my participation this year I made sure to come back before heading to the Institute to finish my studies.  I stood staring at the impressive rock face that stood at the far edge of the claiming grounds. All I had to do was make it up the wall and I was free. There was no way any male would bother trying to follow me up it. It was crazy for me to even be attempting it but this was my only chance. Of course I had an advantage, I have been climbing this wall for years, I have never made it all the way up but this was the motivation I needed to push myself to make it. Once at the top it was a short distance to cross the boarder and I would be gone.  The top of the cliff was accessible by road but not from the claiming grounds as it was set in a basin surrounded by the cliff the only way to access the road would be back through the starting gates which is not allowed. Nowhere in the rules does it say however that you cant climb out of the claiming grounds probably because the idea is crazy and no one has ever attempted it before.    On my way back from the Institute I had stopped at the top of the cliff, I hid a bag with my belongings and some money. I didn't have many possessions but I didn't need a lot I just needed enough to get me to my first destination which I has decided would be Australia. I had herd some creatures at the institute talking about it and it sounded like the perfect place to start. I didn't want to risk going back to the pack house after the claiming was over just incase Alpha Alexander changed his mind about me being free to do as I wished.  I could have just not come back, I could have finished up my studies and run away, but this would have left me a rogue and that was the last thing I wanted. At least this way I would still technically belong to a pack and therefore able to keep my sanity.  I took one last determined look at the wall of the cliff and headed back to get a good nights sleep, I was going to need all the energy I had if I was going to pull this off.
