SERENA'S POV I entered the small cubicle I used as my room. I was so tired. After standing since morning without food, the least they could do was allow me to sleep, but I guess there is no sleep for a girl like me around here. I heard footsteps coming down the corridor and mentally prepared myself for whatever it was that was about to happen. I watched as water soaked both me, the little piece of clothes I managed, and the torn foam I slept on. I turned to see Madam Caro standing just outside the cubicle. “You bastard, you think those toilets will wash themselves? And the bathroom is clogged, you standing here won't unclog it, get moving you lazy piece of s**t” I picked up the broom I dropped beside me and started leaving my left eye twitching as I passed her. Things would have been a little bit better if I had a friend I could talk to. But I watched as everyone tried to avoid me as I passed; no one even wanted any part of their body to touch mine; they treated me like I was a disease. I got to the toilet, picked up some buckets and other instruments, and started Washing. When I was done, I moved to the bathroom. It was almost midnight when I was done doing everything I was asked to do; as I was going to my room, I noticed that everyone had retired and the maid's quarters where I stayed were almost empty. Which didn't come as a surprise to me. I was always the last to sleep, and the first person Madam Caro normally woke up the next day. Madam Caro is the one In charge of all the maids in this pack, and she's also the one who shares the duties, but for some reason, she hated me the most. I was like the outcast of the pack that no one cared about. I was already twenty-one and had hope of finding my mate soon, which was what kept me going; he might be able to save me from this useless life I was living. I entered my room and threw the hand glove I was wearing into a corner of the room; I removed my clothes, changed into my nightwear, and lay down. I was so tired, but I couldn't sleep; I kept on rolling around the foam I was lying on. I must have slept off at some point because I woke up to someone kicking me on my tummy. I immediately stood up to see Stephanie in front of me. She was also a maid but she treated me like I was trash, just like every other person. And she expected me to kiss the ground she walked on. “You probably think that the rest of us have nothing to do except hang around you all day, Please, you're on washing duties today, and Madam Caro has sent me to wake you up” I sat up immediately; I knew I didn't even have time to bathe, and that would have to come later; I immediately changed to something better and more presentable as Stephanie left. I rushed out to the Laundry room. “The alpha has visitors, so you need to be done with these clothes in the next few minutes, I don't know how you want to do it, but make sure you don't leave any stains on them” I heard Madam Caro say as she passed the laundry room where I was standing looking at all the clothes in front of me. “I heard the alpha is a very brutal man; I've never crossed him before, but those that have always have interesting stories to tell,” Stella, another maid, said to me. Her voice was sickly sweet, which made me almost want to vomit because I knew how wicked she could be. She once poured hot water on me, but luckily for me, it didn't touch me. She looked at me with a wide smile on her face as she dropped the basket of cloth she was carrying at my feet. “As madam said, try not to miss any dirty spot, if you don't want to sleep in the dungeon without food for a week” I tried my best to stop myself from rolling my eyes at her; that would only cause unnecessary problems for me, and I didn't have the strength for them. “Thank you,” I mumbled under my breath sarcastically as I picked up the basket. I walked to the washing machine to be sure there was soap and the tap was running. “What was that you said? I didn't get you,” she asked, Walking towards me with a smirk on her face. I'm sure she's thinking of all the ways she could make me suffer. “Nothing, I wasn't talking to you” I mumbled back at her. “Maybe I should teach …." She didn't finish her statement before someone shouted her name from somewhere. “You're lucky today,” she said to me and left. I made sure to wash all the clothes there carefully, looking at them over and over to make sure I didn't leave any stain on them. After washing and drying them, I folded them properly and sent them to Madame Caro, who made me stand in front of her as she went through the clothes. “You know you're not to be trusted Serena, I had to be sure you didn't lace the clothes with anything poisonous and you didn't return dirty clothes to me, you can leave” I quickly walked out, grateful she didn't send me on another errand, I went straight to the kitchen to check if I could get something to eat. I entered the kitchen and found it empty. The maids that were assigned to work here must have gone out or something, but at this point, I didn't care. I was so hungry I could swallow a wolf. I picked up a piece of bread and started munching on it. I made sure to take from the leftovers to avoid being accused of stealing the pack of food. I missed my meal yesterday because of Madam Caro, and today I couldn't leave the clothes to come to eat during lunch because that could attract some punishment. ‘How dare you eat when the Alpha's clothes were lying in front of you dirty’ I rolled my eyes at that thought. I can't count how many times I've heard that particular statement. I was still standing there when I started hearing footsteps and whispers coming towards the kitchen, it must be the maid. I turned to leave quickly before they came, and started assigning me their duties, but something hit me behind my head. It was so unexpected and painful, and the next thing, everywhere went blank and I felt myself falling to the ground.
