Chapter 6

Kaliyah stood frozen in the middle of the basement where she slept, staring at the pregnancy test strip in her palm. The double red lines stared back at her, taunting her, mocking her. She was pregnant with Alpha Soren's child. She lowered slowly to the ground, her eyes filled with disbelief. What had she done to herself? She was pregnant for a man who didn't even know she existed, a man her stepsister was wedded to. How would she tell her father and stepmother? The questions assailed her, pushing her into a state of intense shock. She was at a loss of what to do. Telling her father or her stepmother was out of the question. They would disown her, or worse kill her. As she sat there pondering over what to do, she heard approaching footsteps. She moved quickly, shoving the pregnancy test kit underneath a pile of clothes. Ophelia shoved the door open and glared into the dim room. Her gaze fell on Kaliyah and hardened. "Overslept again?" She snarled. Kaliyah shook her head quickly. "No, stepmother. I was just about to step out." "Get out there now. Your father has an errand for you." "Yes stepmother." She nodded and hurried out the room. Her father was behind the house, sharpening a knife. She quickly lowered her eyes and dropped her head. "Good morning, father. Stepmother said you had an errand for me." Algernon looked at her briefly before turning back to the knife. "Grab a bag and go over to elder Simon's house. He will give you a parcel. Come straight home immediately." "Yes father." Kaliyah nodded and hurried off. She grabbed a bag from the kitchen and hurried down the path that led to Simon's cottage, one of the elderly shifters in GreyOak Pack. As she walked, all she could think about was the baby growing within her. Fear and worry threatened to overwhelm her and she knew she had to do something about her pregnancy. She was still too young to be a mother, barely eighteen, even though she would be eighteen in a few weeks. She had no one. Raising a baby alone was difficult, and Kaliyah wasn't ready for that kind of life. Something had to be done soon. In a matter of minutes, she arrived at elder Simon's cottage. Knocking softly on the door, she waited, expecting Simon or his mate to answer. Instead, someone she totally disliked stepped out. It was Zain, Simon's son. He smirked when he saw her. "Kaliyah. I'm surprised to see you here." Kaliyah felt like wiping off the lewd smirk on his face. She still remembered what Yennefer told her, and she wasn't surprised. Zain was twenty years old, and a pervert. All he did was to deceive naive she-wolves, only to get into their skirts. She couldn't believe someone as kind as Simon had birthed him. She loathed him. "Is your father home?" She asked without warmth. "Not really. He stepped out a while ago." Zain paused, his gaze lowering to her chest for a moment, before looking back at her. "Do you need something?" Kaliyah had noticed the direction of his eyes and she frowned at him. "My father sent me. He's expecting a parcel from your father." "You know, why don't you come in and wait for him." Kaliyah shook her head immediately. No way would she fall into his trap. "Maybe I should come back later." She said and turned to go, but Zain hurried after her and grabbed her arm. "Why? He'll be back soon." "I said I'll come back later." She repeated, struggling with his tight grip. "Let go off me. You're going to hurt me." "If you go, you will miss my father." Zain said out of the blue. "He's expecting you, and he told me to tell you, to wait for him. He didn't go far." Kaliyah narrowed her eyes at him in suspicion. She didn't believe him. "Why didn't you say that earlier?" "You didn't give me a chance." Zain grinned. "Come on in." Kaliyah knew it was a blatant lie, but she wondered what would happen if she returned without the parcel. Her father might be furious. She could just wait a little. Maybe Simon would return quickly. "I'll wait outside." She said, and finally yanked her hand away from Zain's grip. Zain chuckled and shrugged. "Suit yourself." Kaliyah then stood outside the cottage, holding on to the bag she brought with her. There was no way she would follow Zain inside. That would be giving him the perfect opportunity to try to– The sky brightened suddenly and thunder crashed, jarring her out of her thoughts. She looked up, her face falling as the sky darkened. Lightning crashed again and thunder rumbled, heralding a downpour. "Could this day get any worse?" She whispered as rain began to fall in fat drops. In a manner of minutes, she was soaked to the skin. The door opened behind her and Zain stepped out, that silly smirk still on his face. "Still want to stay outside?" He taunted. Kaliyah glared at him as she shivered from the cold. She couldn't stay in the rain much longer. Reluctantly, she hurried inside with him. The moment she felt the warmth from the fire place, she let out a relieved sigh. Zain disappeared for a moment, then returned with dry clothes. "Here. Change into these." He said, handing the clothes to her. "Thank you, but I'm fine." She said stubbornly. Zain didn't say another word. His smile widened and he dropped it beside her. "It's there when you need it." Kaliyah watched him walk away, then cast another look at the dry clothes. She was shivering so much, despite standing close to the fire place. Maybe changing into dry clothes wasn't such a bad idea. She grabbed the clothes and disappeared into one of the rooms. Moving quickly, she discarded her wet dress and dried her hair with the towel Zain provided. It felt good to be out of the wet dress, she thought. Before she could put on the dry clothes, Zain stepped into the room and shut the door behind him. Kaliyah gasped and shielded her bare chest with her hands. She only had a pair of panties on. "Get out Zain!" She shrieked, but he just kept walking closer. "This is my house." He muttered. "You don't tell me what to do." Kaliyah backed away in fright. Knowing how Zain was, she knew that going into the house with him was a bad idea. Yet she had foolishly followed him. "Please." She pleaded. "Stay away from me, please." Zain paid her no heed. His gaze lowered to her chest and his lewd smile widened. "You've always hated me, even when you knew I preferred you to Yennefer." He muttered. "Now I have my chance, and you're not getting away from me this time." Kaliyah thought of screaming. Maybe Simon was on his way back, and he would hear her. But Zain smiled cruelly, as if he could read her mind. "Don't bother screaming." He said. "No one will hear you under the sound of the rain. My father wouldn't even be back in hours." Kaliyah's mind raced frantically as she thought of what to do. Before she could make a move, Zain lunged and grabbed her. She screamed out as loud as she could. But the rain was pouring heavily outside, and the sound muffled her screams. "I can do this the easy way, or the hard way." Zain growled in her ear as he ripped off her panties. His fingers dug into her bum, squeezing painfully. They fell to the floor, and Zain straddled her as he unzipped his pants. Kaliyah fought with him, struggling to escape. Cursing loudly, he slapped her across her face. She went still, stunned into silence with the pain. Zain grinned triumphantly and began to push her thighs open when suddenly, something shattered on his head. Kaliyah had grabbed the nearest object her hand could reach, a bottle, and smashed it on his head. Pushing him off her, she scrambled to her feet, grabbed her wet dress and bolted out of the cottage.
