Chapter 10

*Sadie* I coughed violently, taken back by the question. "What?", I asked in a failed attempt of confidence. "Well Billy B. and Charlene, but she prefers Charlie, are in-inuhm-... How do you say the word?", she asked innocently. "It's intim-", Lee started before I cut in. "We'll just say personal", I said sweetly. "Otay. Personal with each other like this all the time", she smiles. "And how old are they?", Lee questions. "Like really big kids like 6th graders", she says seriously. Lee and I chuckled at her. "Yeah that's really big", Lee said kneeling beside me. I met his staring eyes with a glance, watching the humor dance within them. "Aubrey Reynolds, leave these nice kids alone", her mother rushed over to us. "I just asked if they were being in-inuhm- well personal with each other". "Honey it's time to go. I'm sorry to interrupt your time together. You both make a cute couple", she said as they started to scurry away. "Oh, we're n-", before I could even correct her they were gone. "That was awkward", Lee said scratching his neck. Blush was creeping up his neck as well. Our faces were close as we looked at each other. "Hey if the 6th graders are big kids, what are we?", I asked in hopes of breaking the heated tense between us. Lee looked at me closely before breaking the silence with a sigh, "Only you would ask that at a time like this", he said before getting up, leaving me to wonder what he meant. "Here", he said holding his hand out to me. I took it with a thanks. Lee pulled me up until I was within centimeters from his body. His colone swarmed my nose in a spicy smell. His eyes swoon with alluring colors of brown swirled in an enchanting blend. Alluring colors? Enchanting blend? What is happening to me? I shook my head and started to step back when I felt his arm round my waist, holding me in place. "I-I", I stuttered looking at him. "What is the excuse this time?", he smirked leaning closer. "I agreed to a date", I whispered. "With who?", he growled impatiently and with jealousy? No, this guy's got girls lined around the block. No way he feels berserk over someone going out with me. "The one my grandfather a-a-approves of", I finished. He froze, looking intently into my eyes. "The one you grandpa likes?", he spoke slowly. I nodded my head cautiously. "So if I get his approval you'd be fine with this. Dating, Closeness", He looked into my eyes before continuing," you would be fine with us?". My heartbeat raced within my chest. He was looking as if the words would be in stone forever if I agreed. His breath fanned across my face and his high towered me. His eyes were predatory from underneath his tousled blonde hair. "I-I guess", I tried to shrug it off, "My brother mentioned it to me so". "You just agreed with him?!", he raised his voice a little. "You would cave too if you were asked over and over since you were ten if you like anybody or if you would be willing to date whomever", I said trying to back out of his grasp again but failing miserably. He pulled me tighter, my chest now against his. "I would wait for the one who gets me", he says watching my reaction. "I quit with fairytale fantasies a long time ago", I huffed. It was the truth, my dreams are never the same as what was in my previous life. He looked deep into my eyes, looking lost in thought. "You're different than I remember", I heard him mutter faintly. "What?", I wasn't sure I heard him right. Before he could answer, the sound of laughter was coming around the corner, a very familiar laughter. I struggled to get out of his hold once more, "Hey my family's right around the corner". He looked at my pleading face intensive before stating a sharp, "No". I didn't have a chance to argue before both my family and his came to a sudden halt at our position. "Ooohhh. Looks like we'll be more than besties soon", Misty teased. My face flushed as I stood in front of my approaching parents. "Mom. Dad. It's-". "Mr. and Mrs. Brooks. I would like to ask permission to court your daughter", Lee said releasing me before bowing in front of my parents and brother. My father studied him closely before responding. Pff. I know my dad pretty well and I don't believe that he will-."I believe that it would be better to start out in the courting stage as well. You do have my approval". Huh, but mom won't-. "I agree as well", my mother beamed. Wait I still have my bro-. "Welcome to the family man", Jamie said bro hugging Lee. What is happening right now?! The family was gleaming with each other with excitement as Lee stood beside me smirking before leaning down to my ear. "You have no excuses now princess". *Lee* I chuckled as I pulled away from her ear. Sadie blushed adorable in shock and confusion with a touch of anger. "H-How did you-?". "Persuade them? I have my ways, darling", I smiled down at her. "I-I said my grandpa's permission", she stuttered. "I have to work my way up, sweetheart", I smiled genuinely at her. "Well, I know he's already got a man in mind and it's hard to change his will", she says with a shrug. I chuckled at her. She's still the same as she was then. Just as smart and witty as I remember. Her eyes may be darker and her smile a little dimmer but she is still Sadilynn. My Sadilynn. I almost lost the chance to be with her before and I won't be in that position again. It was torturous to watch from the sidelines. Her pain was evident and I suffered in the end. My soul crushed from afar. I was backed in a corner and took matters into my own hands which backfired with a hard rejection. Then I lost my best friend, then I lost her too, my world. Her sobs echoed through the walls as it crumbled to the abyss. Maybe you figured it out by now but I am a man who won't take a chance her life again. This life I will make her see how wrong they are, how horrible he is. I will take this reward of rebirth to make sure she knows what love is. "Are you done staring at me yet?", she asked looking at me. I laughed and said what I should have long ago, "Not now. Not ever will I quit staring at the most beautiful thing on earth". She blushed deeply before walking to my gushing cousin. "You'll make her a permanent tomato", Jamie said laughing. "Who is the man your grandpa wants for her?", I asked abruptly. He chuckled looking at me. "You know him pretty well". I watched him closely wondering who in the world my rival will be against.
