Chapter 11 - Last Meeting

Isabella I stood at the edge of the large pond with irritation coursing throughout my body. Tapping my barefoot on the ground below, as my impatience grew. "DAMIAN MICHAEL KAVANAGH REYNOLDS!" "I'm sorry, but Sir Damian is not able to come to the mind right now, if you could please ...." "Damn it Ace! I swear, if you make me come in after you I'm evanescing you out by the scruff of your neck!" Ace whimpered and I knew he was bringing Damian forward to deal with their disgruntled mate so that he didn't have to. Sir Damian?! Really!? The nerve of that wolf giving me that line of dog sh.it! "Chill, woman! I can feel your anger! We just went for a quick swim!" "You know that we have a meeting coming up! It's our last one here, as part of this pack, for crying out loud! Add in the fact that you left the laundry on the bed for me to take care of so you could, what, go for a dip?! I liked it better when you were afraid of the water! I can't even threaten to drown you now!" The red-colored Gonakadet that belonged to my asshole of a mate slowly peaked his head out of the water, squinting his eyes at me like a child upset that his mom was pulling him off of the playground before he was ready to leave. I was so thankful that Falco and Freya took after me, because if they acted anything like their father when they were growing up, I swear I would have moved into the vampire's coven years ago, alone, instead of staying here for their growing wolves' sake. "Don't you even look at me like that! You're just lucky that we can be back at the house instantly, because Lord help me, if you make me late for one more thing!" I yelled at the red wolf with one hand on my hip as the other pointed a finger at him in anger. "Why the hell did my sister get the well behaved mate while I got the one who thinks it's funny to piss me off?!" I spun around, deciding to evanesce myself back to the house without Damian, when Ace decided to finally evanesce himself out of the pond, shifting back into Damian before he appeared in front of me. Damian wrapped one arm around my waist as his other hand reached behind my head to grip my ponytail, pulling my hair to tilt my head back and expose my neck to him. My breathing became slightly heavier as I closed my eyes, embracing his dominating affection as he left a trail of soft kisses from my collarbone up to my jawline where he stopped and loosened his grip on my hair just enough for me to make eye contact with him. Those damned blue eyes that get me every time. "I can think of something else we could be doing right now. After all, this is our spot, you know." Lowering his lips onto my own, it took everything in my power to fight the chilling tingles that were coursing through my body. "You better mean scratching Yoda behind the ear buddy, because we have a meeting that we can't miss!" I evanesced myself away from the temptation of my mate's lips and into the entrance of the house, hearing Damian's frustrated growl echo in my head before he evanesced next to me. "You're not funny." He quietly grumbled next to me. "I don't know, judging by the look on your face, I'm pretty sure you didn't get your way and I think that by itself is funny." Sam's voice came from the direction of the kitchen as Jo and Sylvia led him past Damian and I on their way towards the office. "I'll keep that in mind the next time those two tell you that they want a date night without you!" A smug grin appeared on Damian's face as he talked to the back of Sam's head. "Enough you two, I want to get this meeting over with and if you go in there screwing around it's going to take that much longer." Jay's always serious voice got our attention as he made his way down the stairs and past us, heading towards the office behind the other three. Mia was right behind him, but stopped next to Damian and I. "Ignore the grump. He's really not looking forward to the move. I think that the entire time the kids were growing up he ignored the inevitable. Now it's about ready to b.itch slap us all in the face on top of everything else that's going on around here." "I can sympathize with him. But at least he won't be alone. I'm going, too." "No offense Damian, but I really don't think that makes it any better!" Mia patted Damian on the back in false sympathy as we followed the others down the hall and to the office where Seth and Rhi were already waiting for us, along with Delilah and Kaj, the former Luna and Alpha. I smiled at Seth and Jo's parents as I took a seat at the long table. "What are the two of you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be retired and enjoying life or something like that?" Delilah didn't hold back her loud sigh. "One of us got bored and dragged the other one along. I won't say who." She ended her sentence with a huge eye roll, no different than what Jo does when she's irritated. "Honey, it's important to stay up to date on these issues, even if we are retired!" "As if Seth and Rhi wouldn't tell us afterwards. I could be drinking with the girls right now!" Delilah crossed her arms over her chest and leaned back in her chair to glare at Kaj. "You mean Susan and Victoria. Stop making it sound like there's a large group of you that always hang out together, Delilah." "Get enough alcohol in us and it seems like there's more than just the three of us." Delilah gave a fake sweet smile to her mate. "That's because you three sit outside gossiping and invite over all the women you see walking alone. Not a single one of them is going to pass on free booze with the retired ranking females!" Seth looked at his mom, who just smiled and shrugged her shoulders in return. "Did someone say free booze?" Jackie walked in through the door that hadn't been shut yet, and Seth's head immediately turned to look at the culprit. "Rhi, did you tell Jackie we were having a meeting?" "Maybe I did, maybe I didn't. The world may never know." I couldn't contain my snort at Rhi's sarcastic reply, earning my own dirty look from Seth. "Why isn't Tyler here with Celeste?" No sooner did the words leave Jo's mouth, Tyler and Celeste walked in and locked the door behind them. "Sorry we're late. Tyler and I just had to drop Stella off at Victoria and Gerard's." Kaj started chuckling. "See dear, you couldn't have had drinks with them even if you wanted to." "Keep it up husband. You have a long retirement and I can ensure it's going to be anything but relaxing." "What's the meeting about anyway?" "Well, Jackie, the meeting for the ranking members is to discuss summit details along with the fact that Izzy and Mia need to move into their coven, which means Jay and Damian will be moving, too." Seth sent a look at Rhi who just smiled in return. "I don't understand why we have to move. If their grandparents were able to be the coven leaders without living there, why can't you and Izzy?" Jay looked completely irritated by the entire thing as he questioned my sister for the hundredth time. Usually he doesn't protest anything to this degree, and it slightly bothered me that he was giving Mia such a hard time. "Because Papa and Mima only pretended for dad, Izzy, and I. Plus, they didn't live outside of the coven the entire time. They only did it to watch over Rhi. So, even though those on the outside saw Xander and Stephanie as the leaders, it was only for looks. It's different for us. There's also the fact that Layla, Falco, and Freya will be staying here." "Mia and I need to get in there and re-establish a bond with everyone, a bond that you and Damian need to form with them as well, being that you're our mates." "Don't look so defeated, Jay. Isn't your saying 'everything happens for a reason?'" Jackie tilted her head to the side and innocently batted her eyes. I may have been able to contain myself, but Damian let out a snort that got the attention of Jay's glaring eyes off of Jackie. Seeing Jay's irritation, Seth got our attention back on topic. "So have the four of you discussed the best time for this move to occur?" I nodded my head. "The kids will all be turning 18 during the summit. It's like killing two birds with one stone, a blessing in disguise." "Babe, you and I have different ideas about what a blessing is." "Hey Damian, doesn't Izzy sometimes call you her blessing?" "No one asked you, Sylvia." Sylvia smiled and held her hands up. "Easy killer. Don't snip at the one who will help your kids wrap their heads around whatever that blood did to them." "Plus, no one ever asks you either, Damian. But you still run your mouth." Sam quickly came to his mate's defense, though Sylvia was far from the type that needed it. "Enough!" Everyone quieted back down with Delilah's single word. "We all agreed to stay until all of the guests leave. That way, the chain of authority isn't changed right before the summit," I calmly explained. "You have no clue how much I appreciate that. It's not going to be the same without the two of you running things with me." Seth gave Damian and Jay a tight smile, and we all could see how much the thought of his Gamma and Delta leaving bothered him. They've all been friends for so many years, and now things are going to be turned upside down. "Plus, hopefully, all of the kids will find their mates and that will help you with deciding who gets moved into what position." I looked at Rhi as I spoke, knowing what was going to come next. "One decision has already been made. Tyler, being that you are our lead warrior, it should be obvious that we'd offer one of the positions to you." "Really? You're offering me a promotion?" Tyler asked with wide, almost giddy eyes as Celeste squeezed his hand. "Of course we are Tyler! You deserve it." Jo smiled at her long-time friend, her honey eyes sparkling with happiness. "Which position are you offering me? Delta or Gamma?" "That's also up to you. Do you want to be in charge of training the warriors and other pack members, or would you rather have a slight change and focus more on protection? I tell you from experience, being the Delta is the cooler position." "Seriously Damian? I can't believe out of all the wolves in the universe I am moving into a vampire coven with YOU." "You love me Jay, and you know it!" Jay closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, deciding not to engage any further with my stubbornly sarcastic mate. "You don't have to decide right now." Jo nodded her head. "Rhi's right, why don't you and Celeste take some time and talk about the pros and cons, and what's best for the two of you and Stella." Damian's face suddenly fell. "Wait, wait, wait! Hold up! This is bullsh.it! I just realized that I won't be getting any more of Celeste's baked goods!" Sam raised an eyebrow at Damian. "Seriously, bro?" "Are you going to pout for the rest of the meeting now?" I rolled my eyes at the man the Moon Goddess decided to bless me with. "Well, you cut my swimming short, and, well, left me blue. So I'm just not having a good day." "DAMIAN!" I back-handed his bicep so hard it actually hurt my hand. "Why don't I see if one of the Omegas will bring in some cookies? Will that make things better?" Kaj rolled his eyes at his mate. "Delilah. He doesn't mean he's sad, and you don't need to enable his behavior." "If it gets him to shut up, I don't see the harm!" Damian grinned at his minor victory despite the fact that the rest of us were laughing at his expense. "Alright guys! Back to the meeting! Let's start figuring out what Alphas and Lunas we're going to house where." I looked around at everyone as they all went back to their business. I was going to miss this more than I could ever express. I don't know if it was a good idea to stay here to raise the children or not, because now it's going to be even more difficult to leave .
