Seth
I was in the middle of a good training session with Falco while in my third form when I barely heard Lupa's yelp above all of the other sounds around me. I immediately put my hands up, stopping Falco in his tracks as my eyes searched the sky for Lupa and Kiera. One would think two winged wolves would be an easy thing to spot, until you add a couple of large birds and dragons into the mix.
Finally, the iridescent sparkle of her wings caught my attention after what felt like forever, but I'm sure it was only just a second or two. My heart stopped as I leapt into the air, my wings coming out before either of my feet had a chance to clear the ground and I evanesced to Lupa to catch her.
Lupa quickly shifted back to Rhi as I tightly held onto her limp body and made my way back to the ground. Everyone below us quickly cleared an area large enough to give us space, but kept a close enough distance to see what had happened.
"Lucius, do you know what the hell that was about?!"
"Not a clue! And Lupa's knocked out cold, so I can't even ask her what's going on."
His voice was a mix of concern and irritation, and I knew my wolf thought the same thing that I did. That whatever happened has to do with these damned dreams that seem to be getting worse, and Rhi needs to get to the bottom of it instead of ignoring them. It's just too much of a coincidence.
After making sure Rhi was ok, I sat on the ground and pulled her upper body on my lap, rubbing her upper arms trying to get her to come to while I linked the pack's main doctor. "Trish?"
"Sam already linked me Seth, I'm getting there as quickly as I can." Trisha's voice may have been calm, but it didn't work on me. I needed answers, and sooner rather than latter.
"Uncle Seth, I don't know what happened. Lupa was getting the upper hand, as usual, but she just stopped mid-training. We collided when I spun. I didn't even really make much of a move or anything." Freya was standing to my right and I turned to see tears in her eyes. She never cried. The poor kid was more upset than anyone over this.
"Freya, don't worry about it, accidents happen. You didn't do anything wrong. Got it?" She gave me a tight smile and nodded her head while quickly blinking back her tears so that they wouldn't fall.
Zane walked up to her and lightly rubbed her lower back to try to make her feel at ease. He grew up to be a combination of his parents with his father's brown hair and mother's blue eyes. He was also built like an alpha because of his alpha and beta blood.
Jackie made her way over to us, kneeling down next to Rhi and taking her hand in her own. "Rhi? Rieka? Are you Ok?" Jackie looked up at me and closed her frosty hazel eyes in concern.
I turned my gaze onto the crowd looking for our close friends, hoping they'd have any insight. Once I spotted Izzy, Mia, Jo, and Sylvia, my eyes locked with theirs, one by one. I looked at each one just long enough to see them shake their heads no. I didn't even need to link the question to them, they just knew what I was wondering.
"Luna Rhi! Wake up!" Zane's voice was now next to me, pleading with his Luna to come to. He grew up to be a great kid, I'm sure far better than if his parents had continued to be rogues.
"Someone go get Dr. Trisha! NOW!" I roared as impatient frustration started to consume me.
Rieka
Seth's demanding roar was enough to pull me completely out of the dream state that I didn't want to leave. When I opened my eyes, I was staring into a familiar pair of frosty hazel orbs.
"Welcome back to the real world, Rhi!" Jackie smiled down at me as familiar tingles told me that my mate was holding me in his lap with his hands on my arms.
"Do you care to explain what in the actual f***k that was about." Seth's voice made it clear that he meant it as a demand, not as a question.
I hesitated while I thought of something good to say. "Lupa must have been distracted by something and Kiera just happened to make her move at the right time."
"You have GOT to be kidding me right now?! You're throwing me under a bus that I wasn't even driving?!" Lupa snipped at me before leaving me to my own demise as a low doubtful growl vibrated from within Seth.
In a puff of red smoke, Izzy appeared next to me with Trish. "I'm sorry! I tried to get here as fast as I could. Hopefully I don't need the stuff that's still in my car. Rhi, how are you doing? What on Earth happened?" Trish knelt down next to me and started checking me over.
"I'm fine! Other than a headache, I feel surprisingly well for falling out of the sky." I tried to make light of the situation, but Seth wasn't having any of it.
"That's because I stopped my training with Falco to catch your ass. Do you honestly think you just gracefully fell from the sky and softly landed while unconscious?" He didn't hide the sarcastic irritation in his voice, and I didn't need our mate bond to feel it. I sighed and titled my head back to get a good look at my disgruntled mate, and I could tell just by the expression on his face that he knew something was up.
"Fine! I'm just tired since I haven't been sleeping the greatest. It's nothing major and definitely not something that needs to be talked about in the middle of the training field!" I huffed out a frustrated breath of air and went to stand up. Jackie quickly extended her hand out to me, and I happily accepted her assistance. Since her half brother Nate became Alpha Douglas Meyer's mate and left the pack, Jackie and I have become really close. It helps that neither her nor I have children. We started bonding over that fact and realized we were similar in multiple ways.
"Rhi, you very well might have a concussion. I want you to take it easy for the rest of the day, Ok?" Trish's brown eyes looked me up and down a few times, as if she was looking for anything else that might be wrong.
"Will do, Doctor. Training can be done for the day, and I'll head right to the packhouse now to recoup. Thank you for coming out." I smiled at Trish appreciatively as I started making my way back towards the packhouse. I could feel everyone's eyes on me as I walked away.
"You heard the Luna! Training is over! Everyone get back to your day!" Jackie's voice was loud and demanding, just as you'd expect a bear's voice to be. I smiled inwardly at how well she could direct people. In some ways, she had more Luna vibes than I did. As I heard her footsteps getting closer, I didn't bother turning around to see if anyone actually listened to her or if they still stood there in shock.
"Rhi, this isn't my place, but what happened out there?"
Thankfully, she chose to make this conversation private. "I don't know, Jackie. But it created a lot more questions."
"Do I dare ask?"
I couldn't help the nasally snort that escaped me. "I don't even know if I dare to ask. You've seen some pretty odd things being around the rogues, haven't you?"
"Sure, I guess you could say that. What's going on in that brain of yours?"
"After we all have some breakfast and get cleaned up, I'd like to bounce some ideas off of you and Sylvia and try to figure some things out. There's some things I need to start talking about, and I think you two are my best bet."
"Oh! A mystery! I love a mystery!"
I smiled and shook my head. "Link me when you're free?"
"Of course."
As Jackie left for her cabin-style apartment, Freya ran up next to me. "Aunt Rhi, Kiera and I are SO sorry about that!"
"It's ok Freya, really, it is. That's what training is all about. You guys got the upper hand while I wasn't focused. Let's just not make it a habit, ok?" I gave my niece through close friendship a cheesy smile just as we walked through the front door to the wonderful aroma of breakfast welcoming us in.
Sylvia
After Rhi left the training field, almost everyone else followed suit, whispering among themselves as they tried to figure out what had just happened. Only the ranking members, Trish, Seth, and myself were left.
"Trish?" Seth looked over at her as if the words she spoke would magically help everything make sense.
"Sylvia?" Sh.it. How am I going to pay attention to two conversations at once?
"Don't Trish me Seth. I came out here and I looked her over the best that I could. Physically, she's fine. Whatever is going on is on her and she needs to figure it out on her own. I may have taken a bunch of psychology classes to kill extra time while I was in school, but that doesn't mean I can psychoanalyze her just by looking at her. Don't push the issue. Give her time." I liked Trish, she was no bullshit. Her foggy blue hair and how she spoke made her seem much older than she was.
Sh.it, I almost forgot to get back with Rhi. "What's going on Rhi? Are you ok?"
"It's one thing to interrupt our sleep, but now this is having an impact on her while she's awake. She needs to stop trying to handle everything on her own and let others help her figure things out. She hasn't said a single thing to any of you girls?" Seth sent accusing eyes to all of us, making all of us scoff or snort along with eye rolls and crossing our arms over our chests or placing our hands on our hips. Of course, I now had to play right along with the others. I couldn't let him in on the fact that I was having a private conversation with his mate this very minute.
"I need your help. You seemed interested in these dreams and what they might mean way back when they started. Can you help me try to figure out why I'm getting them? If there's a meaning behind it all?"
Izzy raised an eyebrow at Seth as an evil smirk crossed her face. "It's not like I'd tell you even if she did tell me something, but no, I'm just as clueless as you are as to what's going on."
"Count me in. Just let me know when and where."
Seth closed his eyes, sighed, and rubbed the back of his neck. "There's some type of a connection between the damned dreams and what happened, I just know it."
"Well, if anyone can figure it out, I'm sure you can, you're her mate after all." Seth gave me a highly unamused glare and I simply winked in return. "Come on, let's go get breakfast before the kids eat everything again."
I smiled to myself as we made our way back to the packhouse. I've had my suspicions regarding Rhi and her dreams, and now I will finally be able to start putting some of my ideas to the test.
