Chapter 5 - Legendary

Freya We were all just hanging out in the living room with the TV going, though none of us were actually really watching it. Like the rest of the pack, we were too busy talking about what happened this morning. Except for Manny. I couldn't tell if he was listening to us, or actually watching TV. "So, tell us your secret, how the hell did you easily one up Aunt Rhi?!" Layla looked at me with wide reddish orange eyes that were full of wonder and curiosity. She had Uncle Jay's copper tanned skin tone, and Aunt Mia's curly dark brown hair and facial features. She also had Aunt Mia's bubbly personality. When we were old enough to find out how our parents met and some of what happened that summer, we also found out that Layla was named to honor Waya, Uncle Jay's wolf who sacrificed himself to save our Beta female, Jo. As life's irony has it's way, Aiden ended up with Waya's reincarnation for his wolf. I guess Waya was always meant to be a part of this pack. I shrugged my shoulders and explained it for the hundredth time. "Like I said. I honestly don't know what happened. We were training together and the next thing I know, Lupa and Keira collided. It was like the rest of the world stood still except for Kiera." "It was more like Lupa stood still while the rest of us kept right on moving." I turned to look at Kaden where he was sitting in one of the reclining chairs. Kaden was the son of Barrett and Nadia Utter, one of the first rogue families that moved into our pack when sanctuary was offered. Being born shortly after his parents moved in, he's only a few months younger than the rest of us, and turned out to be a valuable warrior in training. No one really knows how it's possible, but he's able to shift into a fox like his father, and a wolf like his mother. His eyes matched his black raven hair, dark with sparkles of purple and green. I may or may not have been caught staring at him a time or two over the years. Zane cleared his throat, causing me to quickly blink and refocus my attention. "Is that why Jackie, Sylvia, and the Luna are having a private meeting?" "I saw Maeve go in there, too." Manny was channel surfing, and I honestly didn't know he was even paying attention to our conversation. He's the son of Leo and Marcie. Leo is one of the warriors that's good friends with Tyler, our lead warrior. Manny looked a lot like his dad with his dirty blonde hair and brown eyes. "Wait, what?" Falco sat up straight with a curious look across his face. "Yeah, on my way in here I saw Maeve go into the office." Manny kept channel surfing as if what he had just said wasn't important at all. "Well, what the hell could they want with Maeve?" Aiden leaned back in to the couch and I could tell that the wheel in his brain was turning. "What could who want with Maeve?" I gulped as we all heard the serious voice of Alpha Seth from the doorway. I may have grown up calling Rhi my Aunt because she's so close with mom, and Seth may be the most laid back and down to Earth Alpha I've met, but the tone of his voice when he's irritated is a clear sign not to do anything to increase his irritation even more. Him finding out we all know something he doesn't would be one of those things. Manny quickly shut off the TV as we all turned to look at Seth and Sam. "Oh, hello Alpha, Beta. Nice to see you!" "We just saw you a few hours ago, so cut your sh.it Manny. Who wants what with my daughter?" Sam's tone matched Seth's, and our eyes went over to look at Manny as the color started leaving his face. Sam was almost overly protective over Maeve, and tried to know where she was at all times. "Well, uh, on my way here I saw Maeve go into the office, and, well." "And?" Seth pried for more information from the stuttering Manny, who wasn't being very helpful. "Aunt Rhi, Jackie, and Sylvia were having a private meeting. Maeve just got up and left us, saying she suddenly had something to take care of. Manny saw Maeve go into the office. So we're all assuming she's in the meeting with them." I blurted everything out at once. Seth and Sam sure didn't look impressed by the entire situation as they both pierced their lips together before storming off. "Don't you guys worry about those two. I'm sure things will eventually settle down. They're just not super impressed hearing about the secret meeting those four are having after the phone call Seth just recently received." Jo smiled at us as she stood in the place Seth and Sam just left, trying to ease the worry from our minds. "What are you talking about, mom? What phone call?" Aiden scrunched his nose in confusion, and I didn't bother holding back my amused snort at how similar he was to Jo, earning myself a sideways, dirty look from him. "Alpha David Fernsby called to let us know that Luna Gertrude just went into labor and they won't be able to host the summit at Moon Valley this year. They asked if it was something that we might be willing to do." "Isn't she a little old to be giving birth?" Manny blurted out as he tossed a tennis ball in the air to himself. He even managed to get the attention of Amar, Aunt Rhi's weimaraner guardian, who basically wandered around the pack-grounds as he saw fit. I swear that dog gave Manny a look like he couldn't believe the words that just came out of his mouth. "Manny!" Layla scolded him as she threw a small pillow at his face. "What! It's an honest question! And that's NOT why they call these throw pillows!" Manny waved the small pillow in the air, causing Layla to roll her eyes. Jo cleared her throat while giving Manny her own dirty look. "First, Manny, Luna Gertrude is only about 36. She's not that old, so you might want to watch what you say, especially around those of us older than her. You know, like myself. Second, that's part of the reason they wish not to host the summit. It took them so long to get pregnant, and she is older than most are for having her first child, that they just want time to themselves." "But that means we'd be hosting almost back to back summits?" "I don't know what to tell you about that, Falco. But from what I overheard, it sounds like Roxie and Blue will be here right around the same time as well. So it's going to be a full house, well, full guest houses." "Wait, are Aunt Roxie and Uncle Blue coming with everyone?" Aiden's voice was almost a whine, realizing that meant his cousins would probably be coming along as well. "Yep. Now, I need to go see what's going on with my mate before he overreacts. See you kids for dinner." "This is going to be far from good." Aiden waited to start complaining until his mom was well out of hearing range. "The Elemental Luna hosting the summit with four fairy daughters, their parents, and a bunch of other teenagers that are coming of age, what could possibly go wrong?" I let out a sarcastic laugh, having a gut feeling that there was going to be drama and no way around it. Seth I needed to get out of the house and clear my mind before I overreacted. Sam walked with me, as he clearly needed to do the same. "Well, that explains why we couldn't link with them when we tried. Do you think we should interrupt them?" I didn't have a chance to answer Sam thanks to my wolf chiming in with his opinions on the subject. "Do it!" "Zip it, Lucius, I'm thinking!" "If you don't have the balls to do it, I will." "If you do I'll have Sylvia castrate you, I swear to Goddess!" Finally, my wolf went quiet so I could answer Sam. "No, not right now. Rhi needs to figure some things out, and if this is what she needs to do, then so be it." I didn't really like that she was keeping me in the dark, but if she felt like it was necessary there has to be good reasoning behind it. "I'm not really a fan of my mate just deciding that it's a good idea to keep a secret from me like that. If both Sylvia and Maeve are involved, and they all decided to keep it quiet, you know damn well they're doing more than just talking in that room." Sam almost growled out his words as I saw his eye twitch in irritation. "Hey guys, hold up!" Jo's voice called from the house, and Sam and I stopped so she could catch up. "So, you two are just walking nowhere?" "It's called releasing stress, Jo. Not all of us open a bottle of wine when we're irritated." I held back my laughter as my little sister gave me a dirty look. "Smart ass. What are you going to do about the summit?" "We don't really owe the Fernsbys anything. I know we're allies, but I'll never forget how they introduced themselves." Sam crossed his arms over his chest, the memory adding to his irritation. "That's right! They tried to send their Betas in their place! I can't believe I forgot about that." Jo shook her head at her own lapse of memory. "It's not something that I want to do, especially at the last minute and with what's been going on with Rhi, but I don't think it'd be a bad idea. There's a lot of packs out there that frown on us since we started offering sanctuary, even more after what happened at your Union. I think now is a good time to host the summit, even if it does mean we will host them almost back to back." Jo sighed. "Some act like not aging is something to be jealous of, they don't understand how difficult it is." "What about my sister and Blue wanting to come here? I love them both, but it can't be good if she wants to come here to discuss things." "We'll figure it out, Sam. We always do." "This is going to be epic!" Lucius said a little too enthusiastically in the back of my mind. "I don't think that epic is the right word for this, Lucius." "This is going to be legendary!" I rolled my eyes at my wolf's choice of words. "And that's exactly what I'm afraid of."
