The food was ready. Varieties of food were arranged on a table in a beautiful manner.
"The table is set, my lord", the butler said to the Queen in her chambers.
"Get the princess to the table", came her reply
"She's in a terrible state, I doubt if she'll leave her room for dinner", the butler said, earning the Queen sigh
"Do anything, just persuade her to the dining room", said the Queen. The butler nodded and left. She wondered why her own daughter was giving her this kind of problem, she sigh deeply and left the room. She strolled slowly to dinning and got shocked on seeing her daughter already at the dining.
Her dramatic daughter will sit in her room and wait for the whole world to beg her out. Some cases, she locks herself in the room for two days straight, but today, she willingly came to the table, "shocking", the Queen commented.
The princess, Ruby, took a glance at her mother and continue eating. She was in no mood to exchange words with her mother, she just wanted to eat and return back to her room. With the look of things she already knew it was impossible.
Her mother, the Queen sat quietly, and watched her daughter eat. The food spread on the table was mostly meat and few veggies. She instructed the butler to get her freshly cut cabbage, she was into veggies
There's was long silence between the mother and the daughter. "Aren't you supposed to apologize?", The Queen said warmly, breaking the silence
She sigh and gave a short apology,"I'm sorry". She didn't want to prolong any more conversations with her mother. She felt really disgusted as she apologized.
"Why don't you want to get married?", Her mother asked on a more serious note.
"I am not ready", came a short reply
"What exactly are you not ready for? To say Yes to a man?", She asked again
"Exactly", the princess replied almost immediately, "Yes to a man that I don't love or know anything about", she said
"You can easily find out about them", she said," And as for the feelings, you'll grow to love him as time passes", she added. It sounded like a non chalant reply, almost like it was really normal.
"So you're selling me off?", Came a sharp reply, earning her mother's stare. The statement caught the Queen off guard, she wasn't expecting that response from her.
"If it sounds like it", she paused,"then I am", she added. Ruby smile, the smile eventually turned into a chuckle. She was pained by her mother's response, but it somewhat felt funny. She saw her cat running towards her, she picked the cat and fed it a slice of bread.
"One day", she said, standing up with her cat in her hands, petting it as it purred in her embrace, "you'll wake up to see I'm gone", she said with a smile to her mother and walked away, still petting her cat.
