Chapter 15

They camped in an open field, very close to a small town. They could have traveled further and gotten to the town, but open space was the Prince's favorite, beautified with fireflies and music coming from the animals and insects in the bush. "So…", Starfire said, breaking the silence,"Are you searching for a princess or a commoner?'' She asks. "A girl",the prince replied, looking for a wife or love wasn't his aim but taking a break from the palace duties, not out of laziness, he just found it tiresome. Love was not something he knew how to feel. He only felt comfortable amongst Philip and Starfire. They're the only close friends he had. He's that one prince that doesn't act or feel like Royalty. They both sat in front of the fire and waited for Philip to return. The fire began to die slowly as the wood was not enough. There was an awkward silence. Starfire decided to stay mute. She noticed her thoughts and discussion with the prince has been about the type of girl he wants or bride. Her feelings were not making her think straight at all,and it burned, deeply, but in a weirdly mild way. The prince stared at the dying flames, thinking of what tomorrow might bring. He had been away from home for weeks and he didn't even feel like returning back nor was he comfortable wandering around. Their thoughts were distracted by the sounds of heavy falling logs. A tall muscular Shadow was casted. Philip was back. With the amount of wood he brought, one could tell he has robbed the forest of her trees. "Took you forever to get back", the prince said, giving a warm smile. His smile quickly faded as he noticed another shadow casted behind Philip. He tried to pick the person or atleast the creature, but he couldn't. "Don't move", he said, the creature looked like a snake but with arms and legs, muscular body parts that can only be owned by wolves. He had never encountered a creature like that in his life. "On three, you move aside immediately",he said, Philip nodded slowly standing Frozen. The heartbeat of the creature is not a beat he has heard before. "One….. " "Two…." "Three" Philip moved aside immediately. The creature hissed and pounced on the prince as they started to fight. A fight of survival. The prince held the creatures fore limbs as the claws elongated. He was trying to identify the creature but to no avail. He kicked the creature backwards as it slashed the prince's skin with it's long claws. During the period of the fall, the prince reached for his sword as he felt a push. He regained his position to see his friend, starfire on the ground, she was bitten by the creature. He looked up to fight it, but it was gone. There were two of those creatures he said to himself, angy. He and Philip tried to help her up, her skin had already turned pale, like her blood was drying up.
