Chapter 3

There was the usual bustling of cars and honking.Almost everyone got off work at the same time so it was quite expected.

Mia poked her head out of the taxi, just looking at the city, the tall buildings, the lights that shone from the signage of each company, the car lights and the various cars on the road.She realized that she was going to own a car by the end of the year.

Her eyes glimmered with hope, her lips curved into a smile as she rested her back on the car seat.

“It's all going to be fine after all.”She thought inwardly as she closed her eyes and allowed herself to enjoy the ride.

“We are here ma'am.”The driver announced and Mia opened her eyes, she looked outside and realized that she was indeed in front of her friend's apartment.

She carried her bag,paid the taxi driver and entered the building.

She rang the doorbell twice before she finally heard Abigail's voice.

“Who's there?.”

“It's me Mia.”She responded and the door slightly creaked open.

Abigail wasn't behind the door anymore so she just let herself in.The wet floor told her that Abigail just came out of the shower and was naked when she opened the door.

“I'm coming.”Abigail called out from the bathroom.

“Take your time.”Mia threw her bag and herself on the bed.She lay on her back, putting both hands on her belly and staring at the ceiling.

“You didn't tell me you were coming.”Abigail came out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her body and her hair.

She dried her feet on the foot mat and let herself in the room.

Mia was trying to keep her eyes open.

”Had a long day at work?.”Abigail guessed judging from Mia's as she sat gently on the stool in front of her mirror.

“I'm getting married.”Mia announced, the lotion Abigail was holding dropped from her hand immediately.

She turned around and Mia sat up “To Daniel?.”Abigail puzzled.

Mia hissed remembering the situation Daniel landed her in.”No,he left me.”

“Well good for you,I never liked him.”Abigail was pleased and she picked up her lotion.

“But who are you getting married to then?.”Abigail quizzed, Mia bit her upper lip and looked up at Abigail batting her lashes.

“To my boss?...”Mia answered hesitantly, rubbing her feet on each other.

“No way!.”Abigail gasped,her jaw went slack.She waited for Mia to burst into laughter and tell her that she was just pulling her legs but it never happened.

Abigail's eyes were bulging, she dropped her lotion again and it spilled a little this time around.

“How?.What is going on?.”Abigail beseeched, scooping her spilled lotion.

Mia exhaled and gave Abigail the details of everything that happened.During the whole narration,if Abigail's mouth wasn't wide open then it was her eyes.

“I always knew Daniel was up to no good.I don't know why you never saw it.”Mia commented as she plugged in her hair dryer and began to blow dry her hair.

“He sent me to college,he took care of me…”

“And you have paid back by housing him, feeding him and taking care of him for the past 3 years.If you ask me,I think you have paid him back and owe him nothing.”Abigail argued.

Mia's eyes welled up with tears,”But he was my first…”

“But that doesn't mean he has to be your last.Wake up,he doesn't love you because if he did he wouldn't have left you stranded.I hope you realize that and make your boss yours forever.”Abigail advised as she rummaged through her hair with her finger to be sure if it was completely dry.

“I'm sorry, what?.”Mia was at a loss for words and utterly stupefied.

“Yes Mia.Do you know who your boss is?.He is Liam Alexander, every woman's dream.The man is rich, handsome,well built,dark lushy hair and a perfect height.He is perfection himself…who doesn't want to be his wife?, Absolutely no one.”Abigail asked herself and answered herself .

“Yes Liam is a great boss and good looking but as a person, he's not great at all.He is arrogant, cocky,self conceited and a glorified playboy.”Mia listed and she looked like she could still go on and on.

“You forgot sexy, the man is sexy.If I were you,I would hold on to him tight and make sure I never let him go.”Abigail said to herself as she put on her pajamas for the night.

“The money he wants to pay you is nothing compared to what you would have if you are actually Mrs Alexander Liam.You might want to give that a thought.”

Mia was standing in front of Liam's grandmother's mansion,her mind racing with intrusive thoughts.

Her complexion was pale,her heartbeat racing as she fidgeted with the hem of her dress.

“My grandmother is a simple woman,try to keep your response as short as possible.”Liam told her as he adjusted his shirt.

“Yes sir.”Mia answered sharply, almost as if she practiced her response.

Liam took a look at the woman standing beside him and she looked like she was going to pass out soon.Her lips were trembling and she kept tapping her feet on the floor.

He suddenly burst into laughter but still Mia's facial expression didn't change.

He held her hand and realized that it was very sweaty but he tried to overlook it.

“Remember I'm the love of your life and you are the love of mine.You are just saying hi to a frail old woman and introducing yourself.No big deal,if you want…I could hold your hand throughout.”Liam tried to calm her down and Mia nodded her head.

“And I'm Liam to you,not sir…understood?.”Liam used his finger to lift up her chin and Mia forced a smile.

“Yes Liam.”Mia took quick deep breaths and she was finally able to move from the spot she had been rooted on.

Mia entered the mansion with Liam holding her hands but she was shocked when she realized that it wasn't just the grandmother that was waiting for them but also Liam's mother.

“Please tell me that is not your mother.”Mia panicked, holding onto Liam's hand tightly.

hh,I really wish I could.I hope you are great at impromptu acting because you are about to need it.”
