Chapter 1: The meeting
Once upon a time, there was a young woman named Alice. She was a struggling writer, and though she had talent, she couldn't seem to catch a break. She worked long hours in a tiny apartment, barely making ends meet, but never giving up on her dream of becoming a best-selling author. One day, Alice was wandering through the library, looking for inspiration, when she spotted a young man sitting at a table in the corner. . Alice couldn't help but stare at the man. He was handsome, with dark hair and piercing blue eyes. He was dressed in a fine suit, but there was something about him that seemed out of place in the library. He looked more like he belonged in a boardroom than in a sea of books. As Alice continued to watch, she noticed something else: the man was crying. He was staring down at a newspaper, tears streaming down his face. Alice's curiosity got the better of her. She approached the man, and tapped him on his shoulder. "Excuse me," she said. "Are you alright?" The man looked up, his eyes red and puffy. He tried to compose himself, and wiped away his tears. "I'm fine," he said. "Just reading the news." But Alice wasn't convinced. She could tell something was bothering him. "Are you sure?" she asked. "You seem upset." The man hesitated, and then sighed. "It's just a lot of bad news," he said. "Do you want to talk about it?" she asked. The man looked at her for a moment, and then nodded. "I suppose it couldn't hurt," he said. "It's just that... well, my dad is very sick." Alice felt a pang of sympathy. "I'm so sorry to hear that," she said. "Is there anything you can do to help him?" The man shook his head. "The doctors say there's nothing more they can do," he said. Alice could see the pain in the man's eyes, and she knew she had to do something. She took a deep breath, and then spoke. "Can I ask you something?" she said. "What's your favorite memory of your dad?" The man hesitated, and then a smile spread across his face. "When I was a kid, my dad used to take me fishing every weekend," he said. "We'd go to this little pond near our house, and he'd teach me how to cast a line. Those were some of the best times of my life. I can still remember the smell of the lake, and the sound of the breeze blowing through the trees. And when I caught my first fish, I was so proud. My dad was so happy, too. He gave me a big hug and told me how proud he was of me." As the man spoke, Alice could see his eyes light up. He was clearly reliving those memories, and they brought him comfort. She could see the love he had for his father, and it was clear that he was hurting. "That's a wonderful memory," she said. "It really is," the man replied. "I'm just afraid that I'll never get to make new memories like that again. My dad has been such a big part of my life, and now he's slipping away." Alice felt a wave of sadness wash over her. She wanted to do something to help, but she didn't know what. Then she had an idea. "What if we make a new memory?" she said. "We could go fishing, just like you did with your dad." The man looked at her, a bit surprised. "You mean it?" he asked. Alice nodded. "Absolutely," she said. "We can go to the same pond your dad took you to, and we can make some new memories together. It might not be the same as before, but it could be something special in its own way." The man considered her offer, and then he smiled. "I think that's a great idea," he said. "Let's do it." So the next weekend, Alice and the man went to the pond. They sat by the water, just like the man had done with his father. They cast their lines and waited patiently, just as they had done before. They sat in silence for a while, just enjoying the peace and quiet. But after a while, the man broke the silence. "Thank you for doing this," he said. "It means a lot to me." "It's my pleasure," Alice replied. "I'm happy to help." Suddenly, the man's line started to tug. He pulled on it, and soon a fish appeared at the end of the line. "I think I've got one!" he exclaimed. Alice jumped up, ready to help. She grabbed a net, and the man reeled in the fish. It was a beautiful rainbow trout, shimmering in the sunlight. They admired it for a moment, and then released it back into the pond. "That was amazing," the man said. "I haven't felt that sense of excitement in a long time." "I'm glad I could help," Alice said. "Maybe this is the start of a new tradition. Every weekend, we can come here and fish together." The man smiled. "That sounds wonderful," he said. From that day on, Alice and the man spent every weekend at the pond. They fished, talked, and made memories together. As time went on, they grew closer, and their friendship deepened. They shared their stories and their struggles, and they learned to rely on each other. One day, as they were sitting by the pond, the man turned to Alice. "You've become such a dear friend to me," he said. "I don't know what I would do without you." Alice was touched by his words. "I feel the same way," she said. With that, the man took a deep breath. He looked at Alice, his eyes shining with emotion. "There's something I've been wanting to tell you," he said. "It's been on my mind for a while, but I was too afraid to say it. But now, I know it's time." Alice felt a knot forming in her stomach. She had a feeling that what the man was about to say was important. The man took another deep breath. "I'm in love with you," he said. Alice was stunned. She had never expected to hear those words from the man. She felt her heart racing, and she wasn't sure what to say. But before she could respond, the man continued. "I know this is unexpected," he said. "And I don't expect you to feel the same way. But I had to tell you how I feel." Alice took a moment to collect her thoughts. She was still reeling from the man's confession, but she wanted to be honest with him. "I'm flattered," she said.
