The Boy down the road

"I really don't want you to." My mother said for the thousandth time already. "I have to mom. I need to see Dan. This is probably going to be the last time I get to." I say. I run a hand through my long hair and sigh. She hugs me tight and starts to cry. "Don't cry, mom. It's going to be fine I'll call you every week if it makes you feel better." She sniffles and lets me go, nodding her head. I wipe her tears and smile "I love you, mom." "I love you too." I put my bag in the passenger seat and hop into the driver's seat. I had a 14-hour drive ahead of me. I was headed up to Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, to live with my dad. My mom and dad split when I was 4. I don't remember much about it but that's okay. Every summer I would go to my dad's to spend some time with him, but my mom was growing to be real tiresome. I decided to live with my father to get away from her. I put the car in reverse and backed out of the driveway, on my to Cottonwood Falls. Before I could leave I had one more stop to make. I start to make my way down the road I drove so many different times. I start to head to my best friend's house. I met Chase Scott when I was 3 years old. We've been best friends ever since. We always hung out at each other's house, talk about boys we like, and during the summer we would go to the pool to check out the boys. I remember that Chase was very shy at first but soon we were inseparable. Chase is 6' and has brown hair with hazel eyes. He's 17 like me but lives with his aunt and uncle. I pull into the driveway and tears begin to stream from my eyes. This would be the last time I see Chase unless I came down to visit my mom. I sent a text to Chase telling him to meet me outside of his house. 20 minutes later he comes out with a hoodie and some shorts on. He sees my car and starts to walk towards me. I get out of the car and smile at my best friend. "Hey what's up? It's like 4:30 in the morning." He questions coming closer to me. "I'm leaving," I say quietly. "Are you going to your dad's?" I nod my head and tears start flowing from my eyes. "I'm going to miss you." I sob. He pulls me into a hug and holds me close. "I understand why your doing it though. But hey we can talk on the phone every night. Yeah?" "Yeah," I said sniffling.  I hold him for a little longer then sigh.  "You have to go now don't you." I nod. I sniffle as I wipe the tears off my face. I give a small smile and start to walk towards my car. "Wait," Chase calls out. I turn and see him taking off his hoodie. He hands it to me and my smile grows a little.  "This is your favorite hoodie." "I know. I want you to have so that if you start to make new friends you always know who your bestie is."  "Tears stream down my face and smile. "Of course how could I forget you. Your my best friend and no one can replace you." He smiles and hugs me one last time. "Go you have like a 14-hour drive ahead of you." I get in my car and wave until I can no longer see him. I continue on out of town. I see the town sign. Come back soon to El Paso. I had my first kiss here. Chris and I would meet up here to go off to who knows where on some kind of adventure. I would miss El Paso but I needed something to change. Cottonwood Falls, here I come.
