Between Two Mates

Chapter 3

(River)

We finally landed in the state of Wisconsin. My pack has been quiet ever since we left our home back in Puerto Rico. I know they will miss it because I will miss it too. I look around as everyone gets off the plane that Beta Shane had rented for us. Once I see everyone is out, Beta Miguel stands to my right and Gamma Victor and Gamma female Jessenia to my left.

“Yo sé que todos están tristes porque tuvimos que dejar nuestro hogar, pero todos saben porque lo tuvimos que dejar. Yo también estoy triste y no quería deja nuestro hogar, pero lo hice por nuestro bien. Los humanos se estaban acercando demasiado a nuestro hogar y ustedes saben que eso es peligroso. Estamos todos en esto y no los voy a dejar solos. Si, es un lugar nuevo, pero es NUESTRO lugar y vamos a echar pa’ lante como los Boricuas que somos” (I know you are all sad becuase we had to leave our home, but you all know why we had to leave. I’m sad as well and I didn’t want to leave our home either, but the humans were getting too close to our home and it was dangerous. We are all in this together and I will NOT abandon you. Yes, this is a new place, but it’s OUR new place and we are going to move forward like the Puerto Ricans that we are) My pack cheers and we head to the buses that were waiting for us. I took a deep breath and, for the first time, I couldn’t help but wonder if I was doing the right thing.

“Tranquila, estoy seguro que cuando vean su nuevo lugar les va a encantar” (Relax, I’m sure that when they see their new place they are going to love it), Beta Miguel says.

“I hope so” I said, watching closely where we were going. My Beta and Gamma were also watching while Gamma Jessenia made sure the pack was doing okay. After an hour of being on the bus, we finally slowed down to a stop. My wolf Rea stirs and looks through my eyes at our new surroundings. I can see a group of people in front of a huge house. I let my pack members get out and make sure that everything and everyone is okay.

“Hello, I’m Beta Miguel. This is Gamma Victor and his mate, Gamma female Jessenia. This is our pack, the Moon Hope Pack”, I heard Beta Miguel say. Once I see my pack members are okay, I head to the front. As I start moving forward, the scent of blood orange, fresh lemon, roses, and lavender fills my nose. Rea tries to take over, but I push her back. I have no idea what this scent is but it’s driving my wolf crazy… in a good way, and I want more of that scent.

“Hello Beta Miguel, Gammas Victor, and Jessenia. I’m Alpha Tristan. These are Beta Shane and Gamma Harold. Where is Alpha River?” A man with dark brown shoulder length hair that’s pulled back in a low ponytail, tall about six feet six inches give or take, broad shoulders and built like a god asks. I stand between my Beta and Gamma with my shoulders back and my head held high. As soon as our eyes meet, my wolf howls in pure joy.

‘Mate, mate’ my wolf chants in my head. His golden eyes widened in shock and his full, sexy lips slightly parted.

“Hello Alpha Tristan, Beta Shane, Gamma Harold. I’m River Moon, Alpha of the Moon Hope Pack”, I said, shaking hands with the Gamma, then the Beta, and finally the Alpha, my mate. I was still waiting for my mate to shake my hand when his Beta elbowed him on his side, making me chuckle. As soon as he shook my hand, I softly gasped at the sparks.

“You- you’re Alpha River?” my mate asks.

“The one and only,” I smiled.

“So, you’re the one who took after your pack at the age of sixteen?” Beta Shane asks.

“Yes” I said, taking out the contract I had signed and handing it to my mate.

“Thank you for all your help with our new home” I said.

“No problem. Umm… Please follow me. I had some pack members come and make you guys some food. I figured you would all be hungry by the time you arrived”, my mate said.

“Thank you Alpha Tristan” I said. I signaled for my pack to follow us to the back of the pack house where there was a large barbeque going on.

“This is all for you guys. Please help yourselves”, an older male that looked like my mate said. My pack looks at me and I nod for them to go ahead and eat.

“Alpha River, Beta Miguel, Gamma Victor, Gamma female Jessenia, would you like to follow me so I can show you around?” my mate asks.

“Alpha, I would like to stay with our pack” Jessenia asks, a little wary of our surroundings, so I nod. My mate shows us around the pack house. The pack house has three floors and a basement. A library, two offices, one for me and one for my Beta. There’s a pool in the back as well. We leave the pack house, and he shows me to the pack clinic, which is stored with everything that our pack doctor and nurses will need. He then shows us to the gym and training grounds. On our way back to the pack house I could hear my beta and gamma’s stomach growling.

“Beta Miguel, Gamma Victor, go eat. We have a long day ahead of us”, I tell them.

“Yes, Alpha” they say in unison before bowing their heads in respect. I can feel my mate looking at me.

“You expected me to be a male. Didn’t you?” I asked, turning around to look at my mate.

“Well…” he says, scratching the back of his neck, and I chuckle.

“Don’t worry about it. I kind of figured that out a long time ago. No one knows exactly what I look like. They just know my name, maybe a status, but nothing else. They are the ones who truly know who I am”, I said, looking at my pack.

“You’re my mate” he says.

“I am” I agree. He opens his mouth to say something but his phone rings. He sighs, taking it out, and I walk away from him towards the food to give him some privacy. I grab a plate with a hamburger, some ribs, and macaroni salad. For drinks, I grabbed a soda and a bottle of water, then sat down with my pack. I watch as my mate hangs up the phone and walks towards me.

“Alpha River, something came up and I have to go back to my pack, but my Beta will show you the borders. If it’s okay with you, may I come back tomorrow?” my mate asked.

“Of course, Alpha Tristan. Thank you for everything” I said, slightly bowing my head in respect. He bows back and looks at me with a bit of hesitation before he leaves. After I finished eating Beta Miguel and I followed Beta Shane to my office where he showed me the borders on a map and where his pack was located, which is not far from ours. After another hour, Beta Shane, Gamma Harold, and the rest of their packs left. We cleaned up everything in the back and I got to work. Every single person in my pack was helping in the pack house, which made it faster to get things done. Once, I assigned families to their cottages and teens who had already shifted to their rooms. I divide my warriors for border patrol into four groups. I sent the first group out, then I got to work in my room. I love the four post king size bed, but what I love the most I would have to say is my bathroom. There’s a large bathtub to the left that can fit like five people in it and to the right is a huge shower with two shower heads. I walked back out to the room and finished fixing my bed, then hung some of the clothes I had brought with me and the others I put in drawers. The trucks should arrive in the next couple of days with the rest of our stuff. By the time I finish it is already past 9 pm.

“Alpha, everyone is done. We’re just waiting for the trucks to arrive”, Miguel informs me.

“Good. Have our patrol change so the others can get some rest”, I told him.

“Already done” he grins.

“Good, then I’ll go check if they need anything” I said.

“Victor and Jessenia have already gone” he tells me and I nod.

“Okay, then get some rest” I told him. I opened up the mind link to the whole pack.

‘Hello everyone. I wanted to remind you all to be at the front of the pack house tomorrow morning at five thirty for training’ I link everyone. Yes, we have a new land, but we are still training like we always have.

‘Yes, Alpha’ I got back from everyone.

‘Good. Have a good night everyone’. I link them before cutting off the link. I went to my bathroom and took a shower. I let the water massage my muscles. When I finished, I dried myself, then went out to the room. I grabbed a t-shirt and a thong from the dresser and got dressed before lying down.
