ACE'S POV
The only thing that kept going on in my head was the fact that my whole world was in my arms. Karla was the love of my life. Always has been. I would have done something about it if what happened hadn't happened.
I sped through the pack at a speed that I had myself prohibited in the pack unless, of course, it was an emergency, and this was the father of emergencies.
My mate was losing blood in my arms, and I couldn't get to the pack clinic fast enough. By the time I reached there, she had gone pale from the blood loss.
"Doc, get in here now." I barged into the clinic with her in my arms, catching every single person in there off guard. To the doctor's credit, he dropped all he was doing instantly, delegating it to someone else.
"Alpha, what is the situation?" He asked calmly as the nurses behind him cleared a bed so I could lay her on it.
"She has lost a lot of blood." I could barely breathe with how worried I was. "I think."
"Put her down and stay outside, Alpha. We will take care of it.
It took some convincing from him before I agreed to go outside. It was the subtle threat that I might be putting her in more danger that finally made me go outside so they could treat her.
I waited four agonizing hours before anybody told me anything. It was the longest four hours of my life. I kept praying to the goddess that she wouldn't be so cruel that she would snatch my mate, the woman I loved from me, just after meeting her again.
Rayden sat with me for a bit before he realized that there was nothing he could do for me and that no amount of cajoling would make me leave her side.
"The people are worried." He had said before he finally left. I, on the other hand, couldn't care less what the people were saying. I had given them my all, this was something I had to do for myself.
What would I do if the worst scenario came true? What would I do without my mate in my life? Without her on this surface of the earth? It was easier with her in it...
Thankfully, the doctor saved me from my agony by coming out of her room.
"Alpha," he bowed slightly, and I willed him to go on. "She is stable for now, but the next two hours are very critical. It will determine if and when she will wake up."
"If and when?"
"Simply put, she must not relapse. She suffered a great loss of blood. As you know, head wounds are very critical, and they vary in individuals."
"So, it's up to her?"
"Yes, it's completely up to her at this point, but I can assure you that we have done everything we can to make her as comfortable as possible."
"That's not good enough." I growled, and he took some steps back. "You must do everything you can."
"Alpha, we have." He said softly. "There's nothing else..."
I felt a hand on my neck urging me to stop scaring the old man. I glowered at the person until I realized it was Rayden. He was the only person who would dare to do that.
"I'm sure he has done everything he can. You can strangle him later, but didn't he say we had to wait two hours?" He said softly, and the doctor gave him a grateful look.
I snarled at two of them before I set the time on my watch for two hours. "It better be good news."
The two hours flew by quickly. The doctor nervously led me into her room. "She didn't relapse." He walked me through the signs on the machine she was hooked up to.
"The only thing we can do now is wait." He swallowed quickly as if he thought I would do something to him. I was resigned to fate at this point, and I could see that he had genuinely done all he could.
"So, we wait." I nodded, and he left the room, as if fearing that I might change my mind.
24 hours later, she still hadn't opened her eyes, and judging by the look on the doctor's face, he was getting worried as well.
"Every day she doesn't wake up is a step closer to her relapsing into a coma." He said.
The first night after she had been treated, Rayden came by to update me on the affairs of the pack.
"Ray, I trust that you will do the right thing with the pack. We can talk about anything else later."
"Alright, Alpha. I just have a small request."
"Which is?"
"I want you to come home and rest a bit. Or at the very least, change your clothing. You look very disheveled. Do you honestly want her to wake up to you looking like this?"
"Are you saying I look so terrible that I would scare her back to a coma?"
"I'm glad you have quickly grasped my point."
"If it is so important to you, I suggest you go bring me things so I don't scare her back."
"I would, but you do need the sleep." He said. "I hate to be the person who says it, but what are the chances that she will wake up tonight?" He was right. Even Zeal, my wolf, knew that there was no such hope that she would wake up tonight.
I agreed, but only on the condition that he would stay with her and call me the minute something happened. It was his serious promise that he would do so that made me leave the hospital for the first time since I brought her in.
I got back to the pack house to several raised eyebrows before they caught themselves. I must look even more rougher than I thought.
One look in my mirror and I understood what they were talking about. My beard was due for a shave, and my hair stuck out at all angles.
I spent less than twenty minutes in the shower, eager to be back by her side. To my greatest surprise, there was a woman on my bed when I got out of the shower with only a towel wrapped around my waist.
"Anita?"
"Ace." She purred, and I frowned in confusion.
"What the f**k are you doing in here in my room?"
"Ace, why are..."
"Also, is there a reason you're calling me by my name instead of my title?"
"Come on," she pouted. "We have gone past that."
"Past what? Who the f**k let you into my room?"
"Everyone knows we're together." I rubbed my temple in annoyance, willing myself not to take out my frustrations on her. Anita was my booty call whenever I needed to release. It had always been just s*x, which was why I was very surprised that she was spewing this.
"Anita, get the f**k out of my room before I decide to do it myself."
"So, it's true then."
"What is it?"
"They say you've gone mad."
