CHAPTER SEVEN

1240 Words
THIRD PERSON'S POV When Anita first heard the news, she ignored it and dismissed it as one of the many rumors that the pack members were fond of making up. The pack members thrived on rumors, for lack of better things to do with their time. "He totally ran with her in his arms. He sped all the way to the clinic." She heard one woman say and she merely scoffed. The Ace she knew would never do that. He would never go against the set rules of the land. On her way to get supplies for her pedicure and manicure. She was a pack warrior, but she didn’t let that stop her from being feminine. She especially loved looking good for Ace. She wanted him to know that she was an all-rounder. On paper, they made perfect sense. It was up to him to see that. She found two women saying the exact same thing. It was comical. She would have stopped to join in what she considered to be fooling if she wasn't so pressed for time. She was also arguably the prettiest woman in the pack and the only woman seen with Alpha Ace, so she had a certain reputation to uphold. It was in the store that she finally gave herself time to listen to this rumor that was making everyone fall over themselves. She wouldn't have even listened if the attendant wasn't interested in the gossip as well. "I heard he was filled with worry. He said he had never seen the Alpha look that worried about anything. Not even about an impending war." That she knew for a fact. Nothing ever moved him, and that was one of the reasons she was insanely attracted to him. Despite herself, she leaned in and listened. "She's going to be our next Luna, probably." "What are you talking about?" She jumped in abruptly. Why was another woman being touted as a Luna when she was there? She found it offensive. "The Alpha has found his Luna." The woman said it with so much certainty that Anita felt her heart drop. "What? Where?" The woman eyed her with apprehension. "What does it have to do with you?" Anita couldn't respond immediately. How was she supposed to lay claim to the fact that she was the Alpha's booty call? Not everyone knew that fact, but those who knew weren't exactly shouting it for the whole world to know. "I'm a pack member here, aren't I? I deserve to know these things as much as the next person." Excited to be telling the story to someone who didn't know, the woman eagerly told her the whole story. Apparently, the Alpha had run mad with desire. The moment he set eyes on the newest pack member. According to the woman, he had personally seen that the woman got to the hospital on time and that he even stomped on a pack member. He also threatened to kill the pack doctor if he didn't treat the woman. "But he respects the doctor so much. Why would the Alpha do that?" "When you find your mate, it will all make sense to you." The woman said wisely, as if she were an expert in mate bonds. "What? That means nothing!" Anita objected vehemently that the others looked at her weirdly. "Of course, it does." The woman patiently explained to her. "Have you seen the Alpha with any woman? That's because he likes to keep his personal life and Alpha life separate." "What? Of course, he's been with women in the pack." Me! Anita wanted to scream, but she had no proof to claim. "Who?" They all turned to her, eager to hear another piece of gossip. She stuttered a few times before she closed her mouth. "I'm sure he has had a few secret relationships with someone in the pack. He's not all that. Will you just add up my goods so I can be on my way?" She snapped, catching the others off guard. Even Anita was surprised by herself. She was so blinded with jealousy that she was acting out of character. She was sure that it was nothing more than trashy gossip, but that didn't stop the wave of possession that gripped her. Ace was hers and hers alone. The woman quickly packed up her goods and gave her the machine so she could pay. She paid and practically ran out of the store. Knowing that she would not be able to do anything else this morning until she had confirmed the news she heard, she made an abrupt turn to the road that led to the pack house. She was sure that there was a simple explanation for the rumors that had been flying around. Ace would put her mind to rest, and if she was even lucky, he would have time for a quick roll in the sack. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned because the first maid she saw told her that the Alpja hadn't been in since the day before. "Where has he been?" "The hospital." "What? Is he well?" She would prefer if he was not well. The alternative to him being in the hospital was not something she wanted to face. "Yes." "Can I see him?" "I'm not sure. He just got back from the clinic." "I just need to talk to him real quick.' "Wait in his study, and I'll see if he has time." She waited in the office for about three minutes before she became restless and dared to venture upstairs. Surely, he would be so happy to see her in his room. She looked around his room. It was so well kept. Why didn't he ever bring her in here? He only ever f*cked her standing and in his office, too. This could be their first time in here. Unfortunately for her, it didn't even go the way she thought it would. Anita?" "Ace." She purred, and he frowned in confusion. "What the f**k are you doing in here in my room?" "Ace, why are..." This was going so terribly wrong, she thought in her head. "So, it's true then." She decided then that she was going to say it straight to his face. What was Ace going to do to her? "What is it?" "They say you've gone mad." She said and she regretted it the minute the words left her mouth. "Very well, Anita." He said calmly, and somehow, his calmness was even more worse than if he were visibly upset. "You've made your point, haven't you?" "Alpha... Ace..." "You do not want me to repeat myself." "I just want to know something." She said. "That woman, who is she?" He looked at her for a long time before he said anything. She was about to give up when he said. "She's my best friend." He said it so gently that her heart broke. She was a woman, and she knew what it meant for a man to talk about a woman as softly as he just did. That was how she had always yearned for him to talk about her. With tears in her eyes, she rushed out of the packhouse. She even forgot her bag in her haste to leave there unseen. Ace didn't even spare her a second thought. He simply got ready to go back to the hospital now that he was freshened up.
