Chapter 7

1109 Words
When Cindy received the fifty million pesos, she immediately met with her uncle and, without hesitation, gave him the money in exchange for her freedom from her debt of gratitude to him. Her uncle wondered where she got such a large amount of money, but she didn't answer him. He didn't press for more questions because all that mattered to him was saving his failing company. To ensure that her uncle would truly fulfill his promise about her debt of gratitude, Cindy had him sign a written agreement proving that she no longer owed his family anything in exchange for the fifty million pesos she gave him. It felt like a huge thorn had been removed from Cindy's chest when she finally no longer had to worry about her debt of gratitude to her uncle's family. She immediately went back to her studies and shifted her course from Business Management to Fine Arts, majoring in Jewelry. Her mother was a famous and brilliant Jewelry designer when she was alive, and from her, she inherited her love for drawing jewelry. And she was happy that she could finally follow what her heart desired, to follow in her mother's footsteps. "I'm so glad we're classmates in all our subjects, Cindy," Remi commented happily when they met inside the classroom for one of their subjects. "Me too. I thought there was really no hope for my dream to come true," she replied to her friend, still unable to believe that she was now studying to become a full-fledged jewelry designer. "It seems being a substitute bride for your shameless cousin did you good," she joked. She couldn't reply to what she said because their professor arrived and immediately started their lesson for the day. After their class, they still had two hours before their next class, so Remi invited her to go to the canteen and have a snack, which she readily accepted. She was also hungry because she hadn't eaten much breakfast. She felt uncomfortable with Adam's stares. She didn't know if she was just imagining it, but she felt like Adam had become less grumpy towards her lately. However, she often caught him looking at her. She didn't know what was on his mind, so she chose to avoid him. "So, how's married life? Did you and Adam consummate your marriage?" Cindy suddenly choked on her burger when she heard her friend's question. "I'm just asking, and you're already reacting like that. You probably did have s*x with your husband, right?" She quickly covered her friend's mouth with her hand after recovering from the shock. This friend of hers was always so vulgar. "Shut up!" She glared at her and then looked around them. She secretly thanked that no students were sitting near their table, so no one heard what she said. "Why are you embarrassed when you're legally married?" Remi said after removing Cindy's hand from her mouth. Cindy couldn't help but roll her eyes. "We are not a normal couple. Maybe you forgot that I'm just a substitute bride for his real wife." "Your name is written on the wedding invitation, and your name is also written on the marriage certificate, so no matter what you say, you are Adam Aldana's legal wife, okay? What you should do is use your beauty and seduce your husband to make him fall for you. Wear sexy lingerie and go into his room. He can't run away because he can't walk," she suggested with a smirk. She just shook her head at the crazy idea and continued eating her burger and orange juice. She couldn't seduce Adam. She might just enter his room wearing sexy clothes, and he'd already throw a lampshade at her. All day, Adam was the topic of their conversation. During break time, Remi wouldn't talk about anything else but how she could make Adam fall in love with her quickly. Even until dismissal, she still couldn't be stopped. "My ears hurt from listening to what you're saying, Remi. Why don't you just strip in front of Adam and seduce him?" Cindy commented, unable to stop herself, as they walked out of school. "I just want to help you, friend. And if I strip in front of him, it might not just be a lampshade that hits my head, but a bullet," she replied with a grimace. She just laughed at what she said. Her smile suddenly disappeared when she saw Luna and her friend approaching them. "Look who's here, Maggie. The substitute bride of my sister," Luna said with a smirk to her friend, but her eyes were on Cindy. "Be careful, Cindy. A rabid dog is barking. We might suddenly get bitten and get rabies," Remi retorted, not backing down against Cindy's cousin. Luna annoyedly pushed Remi. "Who are you referring to as a rabid dog?" "Remi was referring to a dog, not you, so why are you reacting? Are you a rabid dog?" she annoyingly asked her cousin. She would no longer hesitate to fight her now. Before, she was hesitant to fight back when she was being bullied. But now that she no longer owed her family anything, she would clash with her cousin. "Maybe she knows she's a rabid dog, that's why she suddenly reacted," Remi added teasingly. Her cousin's nose flared even more. "How dare you talk to me like that, Cindy! Who are you boasting about? Your crippled husband?" Luna suddenly smirked mischievously. "When my sister comes back and becomes your crippled husband's wife now, you'll surely end up on the streets!" Cindy couldn't help but sneer at what Luna said. "I know we might divorce one day, but not because of your sister. Do you think Adam would want a woman who has been used by other men? He couldn't walk, but he is not stupid." Luna had the nerve to say that. If Lucy comes back and Adam accepts her, I will surely look down on him. Cindy had no idea that Adam and Crispin were just behind her, listening to their conversation the whole time. Adam decided to visit the school where he donated a building for the students. And after talking with the dean, he decided to visit Cindy and just take her home with him. "After my dad fed you and sent you to school, you'll speak badly of his children! You're an ungrateful b***h?" Luna approached her and pushed her hard in the chest. She didn't expect it, so she lost her balance and stumbled backward. But instead of hitting the hard cement, she fell into the lap of a man, none other than Adam.
