Nick stood by Rose Cottage’s kitchen sink and stared out the window, fighting the urge to go after Del. No, she was too upset right now. She needed time to process what she’d learned – to come to terms with Gambino’s duplicity. Then they’d talk. Then she’d listen. So, instead, he reluctantly watched Del load Tiny and her bag into the back seat of her car and drive away.
He gazed into the night for a long time after she left. He should have been over the moon with relief and happiness.
