Chapter 11 Layne stared aimlessly into the bedroom Heaven once occupied. Someone had left the window open. The curtains danced in the breeze, twisting and twirling. Adalyn’s cooing drew his attention lower. Big, bright eyes gazed back at him, melting his heart yet again. She was in a better mood now. The bottle he’d fed her helped soothe her. So did Dylan’s absence. He was almost inside the bedroom when he caught whiff of a putrid scent. So did Adalyn. Her lip trembled as her movements stiffened. He shifted her to his shoulder and patted her back. The motion helped pacify her so he could enter the bedroom, but the instant he did, he wished he hadn’t.
