Chapter 12
The earthy walls cooled Layne’s skin as he crept through the tunnel. At no point had he planned to reuse the passage Zeke created when he and the others had helped search for Heaven. After the connection Layne shared with her had turned cold, grief consumed him. He’d left the passage behind without noticing if Zeke sealed it.
Thankfully, he hadn’t.
Nicholas remained in sight as he led the group with a torch. Faith trailed behind him with Jerry at her side. Jerry was on guard, ready to defend her at the first sign of trouble.
There was no guarantee that they wouldn’t encounter members of The Fallen. Someone had to be looking for Nate. If they knew his plan to kill Heaven, this would be the first place they checked. The Lewis home would be next.
