I fell in step behind him.
He hadn’t said a word since my comment. But even if I had no idea what his actual position was in this hotel, I figured I should probably show some restraint.
“S-Sir... are you okay?” I asked, a slight trace of worry seeping into my tone.
“Why do you ask?”
“I’m... sorry about earlier,” I mumbled.
A smooth, triumphant smile spread across his face, looking as though he had just won the lottery. Ugh, this guy is such an attention seeker!
“Follow me,” he repeated, leading me up the staircase to the second floor. “Let me tell you something. This place transforms into something entirely different when night falls.”
“Like... it gets haunted, sir?”
“No. It becomes a dark playground—where the elite come to gamble and play,” he explained in a low, dangerous tone.
Suddenly, Andrew’s warning flashed through my mind: That place is dangerous. The realization hit me like a ton of bricks.
I just nodded along to everything he said, trying to process the information.
“So, as a Lobby Ambassador, you know what your responsibilities are, right?”
“Y-Yes, sir,” I answered, not entirely sure myself.
“Let me get your contact information.”
“Sure, sir. Here.” I quickly recited my phone number to him.
A sinister little smirk played on his lips as he typed it into his phone.
“I suppose that’s all the general information you need to know for now,” he said smoothly. “The rest is yours to explore... including the room where I interviewed you.”
“S-Sir, what’s your full name?” I asked, unable to contain my curiosity.
Who knows, maybe I could look him up on f*******: or i********: later.
“Alright. I’m Caleb Jayce Cornwell. Twenty-seven.”
“What’s your actual position here anyway? I’m just curious because you seem to know way too much about this place.”
“You’re free to find that out during your stay at this hotel.”
“Fine. But thank you for the tips and the tour, sir,” I said, offering a small smile.
I caught the glint of pure greed in his eyes—he looked at me like a predator eyeing something he desperately wanted to claim.
“Oh, look at that. It’s already 11:30 AM,” he noted, glancing at his luxury watch. “Come with me. We’re having lunch.”
“Ah, I actually have somewhere to be, sir,” I lied quickly. Looking at him, there was no way he ate at cheap fast-food chains, and my remaining budget was practically nonexistent.
“My treat.”
“No, sir, really. It’s embarrassing—”
“Let’s go. I insist,” he cut in. “And stop calling me ‘sir.’ Just call me Caleb... or darling.”
Before I could protest, he grabbed my hand and pulled me toward the elevator.
Why did I feel so comfortable around him despite the crazy, terrifying ordeal we just went through? Why was this happening to me?
Inside the elevator, his arm slid around my waist, pulling me firmly against his side.
My face flushed bright crimson.
“You really are breathtaking,” he whispered near my ear.
I felt like I was going to faint right into his arms. I am completely weak for this man!
“Do you have a boyfriend?” he suddenly asked out of nowhere.
“S-Sir, no... but I’m really not used to this kind of affection, so could you please let go of me?”
“Yeah, sure,” he murmured, releasing his grip.
“I let what happened earlier slide, so please don’t do it again.”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Nothing, nothing!”
The elevator doors chimed open, and we walked out into the main lobby toward the grand entrance.
As we walked, several security guards dressed in crisp black suits bowed respectfully in our direction. Suddenly, a man in a tailored white suit—appearing to be in his mid-30s—approached Caleb.
“Hey man! What’s up?” the man greeted casually.
“Hey, Anderson. You’re here awfully early today,” Caleb replied smoothly.
“Yeah, I’ve got some business to attend to here,” Anderson said. His eyes shifted toward me, sparkling with interest. “And who is this beautiful lady?”
The intense aura radiating from these men was suffocating.
They operated on an entirely different level.
“Hi, sir! I’m a new employee here,” I answered politely, trying to break the tension.
Anderson glanced back at Caleb with a knowing smile, handed him a sleek gray card, and patted him on the shoulder.
I couldn’t understand what was going on, but then again, I hadn’t studied high-level business—their world was completely foreign to me.
I stepped aside to give them space, realizing this was my chance to escape. I quietly started inching away.
“Hey, where are you going? We have lunch, remember?” Caleb called out, a smile tugging at his lips.
“It felt a bit awkward standing there listening to your private conversation,” I admitted.
“Don’t wander away from my side, Lauren,” he warned playfully.
I didn’t find it funny at all. Who did this guy think he was? He wasn’t my boyfriend, and he was just an employee here too!
Lauren, are you blind?! Look at the way people treat him—he’s clearly someone big time! There’s definitely something he’s hiding.
“Let’s go. We have a lot to discuss, Lauren.”
I pulled myself together and followed him outside. Despite everything, I genuinely wanted to figure this mysterious man out.
When we reached the driveway, a breathtaking luxury sports car pulled up. My jaw practically dropped.
“Are we... riding in that?” I asked, pointing at the vehicle.
“Yeah. Why, did you want to walk?”
“Fine, I’m getting in.” I climbed into the passenger seat. Through the tinted window, I saw the man named Anderson waving at me from the hotel entrance.
“Don’t wave back,” Caleb commanded quietly.
“Why not?”
“Trust me.”
“Okay...”
This is getting weirder by the second. What is he keeping from me? What’s really going on in this hotel?
Everything was moving at breakneck speed. Just an hour ago, I was drugged during an interview and nearly assaulted by this lunatic.
Now, we were heading out for lunch like we were on a date, acting as if he hadn’t just held me against my will.
“Caleb, be honest with me.”
“Yeah? What is it? We’re almost at the restaurant.”
“When you saw me yesterday, did you already have bad intentions? Are you involved in something illegal?”
He burst out laughing. “HAHAHAHA! Illegal? How did you come up with that?”
“I knew it! Pull over and let me out! You’re part of a human trafficking ring, aren’t you?! You guys lure innocent women in with legitimate job postings so you can sell us!”
“Really?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Yes!”
“So, I guess I should f**k you first before I sell you then?” he said with a dark, tantalizing grin.
I slapped his shoulder hard. “You bastard! I knew you had sick desires! Help! Somebody help!” I began shouting at the top of my lungs inside the car.
In one swift motion, Caleb grabbed both of my wrists and pinned them above my head. I couldn’t move an inch.
He leaned in so close that his lips were practically brushing against mine.
“Do you really think a criminal would walk around out in the open and live like this?” he murmured, his gaze locking onto mine.
“Of course they would!”
“Are you sure about that?”
“Yes, I’m sure!”
“If you lose this argument, I get to kiss those pink lips of yours... or maybe another pinkish part of your body,” he whispered darkly.
My top had ridden up slightly from my pinned arms, exposing a strip of my stomach. “You’re a total pervert!”
“Oh, look. My left hand is free... and it wants to explore,” he purred.
“Wait, don’t—!”
“Too late.” His free hand slipped beneath my top, sliding directly toward my bra.
“Okay, okay! You’re not a criminal!” I squealed desperately.
“Good. You lose. Time for my prize.”
Before I could react, his lips crashed onto mine. I was completely helpless. He kissed me deeply, hungrily, devouring my mouth like a sweet treat.
My strength completely evaporated. That was my first kiss... completely stolen by this arrogant maniac!
“Now... I want to taste the other pink part of you,” he murmured against my neck.
I managed to free one hand and slapped his chest hard. “That’s not funny anymore! I’m going to sue you!”
Caleb immediately leaned forward toward the driver’s seat. “Ben, take us to the nearest police station, please.”
This guy is utterly hopeless!
The car pulled up to a curb a few minutes later. “Here we are. Come on, let’s go inside,” Caleb said, opening his door.
I sat frozen in my seat, refusing to budge or look at him.
“Well? You said you were going to sue me for kissing and touching you. Let me accompany you.”
“Just get back in the car! Forget it... I’m hungry,” I grumbled, crossing my arms.
“That’s more like it,” he chuckled, sliding back into the seat.
I deliberately scooted as far away from him as possible.
This man is completely insane! He was actually ready to walk into a police station with me! Lord, if this is a sign, please save me...
“We’re here, Lauren. Let me get the door,” he said softly as the car stopped in front of a grand, high-end restaurant.
I stepped out of the car, keeping my glare locked onto him.
“Right this way, sir,” a waiter greeted warmly, bowing deeply. It was obvious Caleb was one of their most elite VIP guests.
“Have a seat, Lauren,” Caleb said, pulling out a chair for me. I sat down silently, still giving him the cold shoulder.
As expected, the leather-bound menu on the table looked exquisite. I opened it, and my eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw the prices.
The cheapest item on the menu was nine hundred pesos!
That was literally my living budget for the next four days!
I swallowed hard, suddenly feeling lightheaded.
“Order whatever you want, Lauren. Consider it my apology for my rude behavior earlier,” he offered smoothly.
I shot him a sharp glare.
“Why the look? Oh... let me guess,” he leaned in close, whispering near my ear.
“Was that your first kiss?”
Unable to control my temper any longer, I reached out and yanked his ear hard.
“Yes, it was, you absolute jerk!”
“Ow! You really are aggressive, aren’t you?” he groaned, a dark, dangerous smile spreading across his face.
