IVY
Why didn't I take the money? He had the nerve to ask why I didn't take the money he left behind for me like I was a prostitute. Or did he think I was financially tight?
I scoffed out loud as I took angry steps toward my department and when I walked in, I couldn't help but notice everyone had their eyes fixed on me. Most especially Sam, the brightly colored dressed worker from the elevator earlier.
I frowned when they didn't say a word but kept on giving me eager looks and I decided to ignore them and head to my desk.
I took a seat before noticing there was a brand-new laptop on my desk.
Sighing as I carefully opened it in glee, I mentally blamed that asshole Ryder as the reason why I was too distracted to notice the company gave me a brand new laptop for work and someone tapped their finger twice on my desk at that moment.
Startled, I looked up and it was the other lady who discouraged me from listening to Sam's gossip. Her eyes lingered on me for a while before she smiled a bit and I read her name on her access card which hung from her neck. It was Amanda.
"Come on, Ivy. You should know why we're all staring" She began and I frowned even deeper because I didn't understand what she meant by that.
"Is there something I'm supposed to do? Does this have to do with being a new worker? I'm confused" I shared my curiosity and some of my coworkers who were listening in laughed while some busied themselves with typing away on their several laptops.
Amanda leaned in, her eyes looking bigger with excitement and I subtly eyed her while I wondered why she was getting so close to me.
I just met these people and they were all so comfortable already.
Was that how this department was? Not that I thought it was a bad thing, I was just surprised to see such an atmosphere in a prestigious company with such a strict CEO like Mr Collins.
"So tell me, why did the CEO call you back? What did he say to you?" She finally asked what had been on the tip of her tongue and it hit me. These people loved to gossip... but I wasn't going to give them what they wanted.
"He just wanted to welcome me into the company" I replied nonchalantly as I began to type away on my laptop too, trying to set it up so I could begin work immediately.
"Really? That was all?" Amanda pushed and I nodded without sparing her a glance.
"That was all" I repeated to confirm what I said and she huffed with a pout.
"I thought you said it was a bad idea to listen to my gossip so early, Amanda. Now it seems like you re the one who's more interested than I am" Sam interjected from her desk and Amanda quickly shot her a glare before walking over to her desk in silence.
As I watched the whole drama unfold between both women, I figured they probably didn't get along all the time and loved to piss each other off.
I made a mental note to avoid them if they ever brought offers of hanging out together because I wasn't interested in separating a fight.
Silence ensued in the office and an image of Ryder...
Now Mr Collins to me, flashed through my mind and I folded my fists so tight that my knuckles turned white.
I was livid.
I couldn't believe it when Sam told me he was married.
The man was a cheat and obviously a regular with s*x workers because if he weren't, he wouldn't leave a wad of cash behind for me.
I just couldn't help but wonder. Why did he have to leave his wife behind to have a fling with a stranger?
Wasn't she enough for him? I hated myself for being the one he had to meet that night but the deed had been done and it was irreversible.
If he thought I would use the fact that we slept together as a means to blackmail him or I'd chatter it out to someone, hed be crazy for that because I was already ashamed enough about it. I didn't want to be termed a homewrecker so no one was ever going to know.
Groaning, I palmed my forehead as I felt a headache coming and I knew I had to get him out of my mind by doing something else.
I remembered the file containing the sales report from the last six months and I decided to go through it more intensively because the department clearly needed a boost and Mr Collins was right. They weren't doing enough.
As much as I detested him, I had to admit that he was right because I knew when to draw the line and separate pleasure from business.
Once I was done with observing every single sales report for each month, I set to my laptop with an idea.
I was going to pitch it to Mr. George and hopefully, if he liked it, we could get more bonus for our good work.
I smiled at that thought and I remembered my parents.
I didn't speak to them since I walked out of their house that night and when I ignored many of Gwen's calls, she didn't reach out anymore. It was high time she gave up on being our parent's mouthpiece.
I knew Mum and Dad expected me to come back crawling to them with an apology for how I acted but that was never happening. The next time they would see me, it would be to shove my new job they concluded I'd never get in their faces just to see their reactions.
Hours passed as we all worked in silence and it was lunch time.
Then we set back to work after lunch and once it was time to close for the day, I still wasn't done with my proposal.
So I decided to take my laptop with me.
We left the office in a group and just as we walked into the elevator, Mr Collins showed up and everyone froze when they saw him.
"There's space for one more, right?" he asked and Sam nodded eagerly, a wide grin on her face while I eyed him all the way from the back where I stood beside Amanda.
"Why is everyone so surprised to see him here?" I asked Amanda and she giggled.
"He's never taken an elevator with us before. So we're surprised to see him today" She replied before giggling again and I fixed my eyes on the back of his head.
What was he thinking and what did he have up his sleeve?
