Chapter 1: Lost
"Love, when we get married, I want us to have ten kids right away," Derrek joked with a smile to Samantha, whom he was hugging from behind. They were currently on the condo’s veranda, looking out into the distance. The woman slightly turned her head at his words.
"Ten right away? Can’t we start with just one?" she asked while simply laughing.
"You know the saying that goes the more, the merrier?" he answered mischievously. Samantha pulled away from his hug and turned to face him.
She brought her lips close to his ear.
"If that's the case, then I guess we better start making one," she whispered sensually, as if implying something.
Derrek’s smile widened even more upon hearing that. He kissed his girlfriend passionately and led her into his room. Samantha didn’t utter a word of protest as he began to caress her.
"You will not regret it, love," Derrek said before passionately kissing his beloved. Samantha responded boldly to his kisses. They were getting married in two days, so there was no longer any issue if something intimate happened between them.
After sharing intense kisses, he sat her down on the bed. He gently caressed her soft face, then slowly ran his hands down her neck and shoulders before kissing her lips again. The kisses grew more intense with every passing second.
After their lips parted, Derrek looked at her shoulder. Despite the dim surroundings, he could still see what she was wearing. He gently held the thin strap of her blouse and slowly slid it down until it reached the floor. When he looked at her face, he was met with her soft, longing gaze — a sign of her consent to everything that was happening.
He laid Samantha down on the bed and kissed her thirstily. His lips traced her entire body from neck to chest and beyond. The woman squirmed with every touch of his lips, each kiss giving her a maddening sensation.
"Do you like it?" he asked her. Samantha only nodded in response.
He returned to her lips and kissed her again. This time, his hands began exploring her body. He unhooked her bra and tossed it to the floor. Samantha instinctively covered her chest with her arms when the cold air touched her bare skin.
Derrek laughed at her reaction. "Are you kidding me?" he asked, placing his hand on her waist.
"S-sorry. You know it is—or it will be my first time doing this, love," she admitted shyly.
Derrek simply smiled. He sat beside her and embraced her while her hands remained over her chest. He didn't push any further.
"I know. If you're not ready, then I'll wait. Okay?"
She quickly agreed. After all, what were two more days? Soon, she would be his. Honestly, that was his plan all along — if only the night hadn’t tempted him.
"Soon, you’ll be Mrs. Sison," he whispered as he brushed a lock of hair away from the sleeping woman’s face. He was enamored watching her. He had decided she would just go home the next day to prepare for the wedding. He fell asleep holding Samantha in his arms — calm, content, and full of dreams.
Derrek had just woken up when someone called him. Samantha was no longer there. She had likely left without saying goodbye. But she did leave a note by his alarm clock.
I LOVE YOU, LOVE
– Future Wifey
He took the note and smiled as he answered his phone. But that smile faded quickly upon hearing the news. He didn’t believe it at first.
"No. Y-you are lying! You’re lying!" Derrek shouted at his mother, who had rushed to his condo.
"Derrek, please listen. Son, she’s gone," Mrs. Meriah said gently. Her face showed grief and deep concern for her son.
"No! She was just here last night. R-right here." He pointed to the bed. "She was with me, Ma. Do you understand me?"
He gave a small smile, but it was immediately replaced with sobs. He ran his fingers through his dark hair and weakly sat on the bed.
"She was with me last night. It's impossible. Ma, i-it's impossible. Maybe you made a mistake. Maybe it was someone else, but not Samantha. It wasn’t her. It can’t be her," Derrek cried, clutching his chest. Tears streamed down his face. Then, he broke down. He felt like a hundred needles were stabbing his heart. He wanted to scream but felt utterly drained — even his voice was fading.
His mother, overcome with pity, approached and hugged him tightly.
"No, it wasn’t her, Ma," Derrek whispered, burying his face in her arm.
Mrs. Meriah could no longer hold back her own tears.
"Son, please be strong. Please," she said, rubbing his back in sympathy.
"How, Ma? W-what if she was my strength? Now that she’s gone, I don’t know what to do. I have no reason to live anymore," he said while crying.
"We’re still here, son. Me and your friends — Levi, Drake — and many others who love you. So please don’t think you’re alone in this. We’re here. I’m here. Even if I’m the only reason left for you to keep going, then let that be enough, my child. I love you so much," his mother comforted him.
Derrek sobbed even harder as he questioned. How could the part of his life that included Samantha disappear just like that? He was only given one year to be with her. For him it wasn't enough. He wanted her until the rest of his life. Now he can't even have a life with her.
