Chapter 53: Explore the system

“Do not panic……….I’m Ephraim, your new personal system.” the voice said slightly bemused. “Where…….where are you?” Trevor questioned in a slightly raised tone. He clearly wasn’t pleased with this new invasion of privacy. “Relax, why didn’t you feel this much invaded at the beginning? You’re one confused person. I thought you were excited.” What the voice, or should I say Ephraim, said was the truth indeed. At first Trevor didn’t feel invaded because he thought the voice was just like another AI system with no conscious whatsoever. However, the voice speaking to him right now, made him feel like he was speaking to a real person who was saying what he wanted without following any set of coded instructions. To put it simply, he didn’t sound like an AI, rather a conscious person. Honestly, this freaked Trevor out a lot. What happens when Ephraim reveals himself to be evil then takes over his body?! “I said Relax! Didn’t I?” Ephraim said bemused, emphasizing on the word relax, “Even if I wanted to take over your body, I couldn’t do it. It’s simply beyond my capabilities. And to answer your question, I’m in your head.” “Think of me as your personal assistant that you can’t see. Let me get you started on the system. I came from the ring you are wearing right now. That there is an elven storage ring. You can use it to store anything. This system was part of that ring, and you could say I was the ring itself. But the instructions given to me was that I should transfer myself to a suitable candidate after activation. You aren’t the first wearer of the ring, you’re just the first suitable candidate. Usually, that ring would be a talking ring but now, since I have transferred, its back to its original state. Lets get back to the system now shall we. As I was saying, this is not a tough thing, all you need is your thoughts to carry out tasks on the panel,” Trevor blinked twice at the revelation. He could now see the weird looks people were giving him since he was talking to no one in particular. “That’s right, it isn’t even necessary to speak, we can communicate through thoughts. What you’re doing right now is making you look like a crazy person since no one can see the panel or hear me.” Ephraim laughed a bit after saying that. “You’re annoying!” Trevor hmphed inwardly. He still wasn’t comfortable with sharing his mind with someone or something else. Off in the distance, Tony and the rest had regrouped and were chatting when they noticed Trevor standing by himself. “Hey, is it just me or does Trevor appear to be talking to no one……I think he has gone crazy,” Tony asked with a tilted head. Isaac turned his head to look at Trevor before sighing and shaking his head; “This has gotten worse. Trevor studying all night is not only making him come, but also making him hallucinate…..I’ll go get him.” By the time Isaac arrived to pull Trevor out of his imagination, Trevor was already aware of his surrounding. "Oh hey Isaac," he greeted, closing the panel with a thought so he could see Isaac clearly. "What's happening to you? Are you hallucinating now!" Isaac asked seriously as usual. "Oh that, sorry, I think I'm really missing out on a lot of sleep. Sorry!"Trevor said, scratching the back of his head awkwardly. * After a bath, normal class lessons presumed. * Trevor was now in the illusions class paying a attention attentively like he usually does. The charming professor, Asardo explained concepts in the most fun way possible. With each new concept he introduced, he would award anyone who already knew it first before he taught it. Which earned Uyler the envy of the whole class cause he wouldn't miss out at all. Midway through the lessons, Trevor's little new imposter spoke again. "You know, you do not have to pay attention this much....." Before it could finish the statement, Trevor interjected in what he thought was a growl, "I would really appreciate it if you would let me focus cause I'll definitely need what I've learnt some time in the future, thank you!" "You now have the system, you can simply download what is in your book, or you could record this lesson if you really need his explanations that bad...." Trevor was left dumbfounded by the statement. He was excited that he could finally get a way to excel beyond other without that much work. For a fact, Trevor knew that one purpose of this dungeon was to train introduce one into the world of magic. And he felt like if he were to miss a lesson here, he would not regain it anymore. That's why he utilized every opportunity he had to research and study more. But with this, he would could just download whichever information he needed and leave with it into the real world. The way Ephraim said this sounded like it was just the tip of the iceberg to what the system could do. "I wouldn't recommend downloading somethings from here. For starters, the information about tasabars is inaccurate. It's just there to set the plot for the dungeon. Tasabars in real life are completely invisible to the naked eye and aren't located on one's upper right arm. They have no shape too. It's just like an empty space in the cavity of your chest......." Ephraim paused," The only way one can tell his rank is by estimating the size of that space and the pureness of the mana stored. Usually, indicators that vary uniformly and proportionally to the ranks can be used for a clear estimation. " It was one bomb after another for Trevor, hehad spent his time studying ranks yet it was completely different to the real world, meant nothing in the real world. "Ps. I suggest you start recording this lesson cause I believe, this is going to be a long conversation." With that reminder, Trevor opened up his system screen and went to a tab titled information and thought of the record button which was one of the only non greyed out components of the tab. " Would you wish to record this event? " Ephraim's voice was heard. Which Trevor replied in affirmation. Soon after the system panel closed. "Now where were we........oooh, other things like information about beasts are quite reliable but you won't need that. The system will be able to identify for you any beast and plant species you come across." Boom, another shocker! Right now, Trevor couldn't not contain his excitement any longer and he almost jumped up from it. Though he didn't pull through with the jump, he couldn't contain his squeel which Professor Asardo heard well and clear. " Is there anything you would like to share with the class young man?" Asardo asked, stopping his lecture for a moment. "I'm extremely sorry sir. Please carry on...." Trevor apologized in embarrassment. Asardo simply smiled and continued with the lesson. He seemed to be an easy going person who gained the student's respect through love and not fear. "Are you naturally this childish Trevor? Anyway, you won't be after all the experiences you are going to gain. I have heard alot about theses dungeons, too bad they weren't there in my time. I could have learnt quite alot," the voice seemed regretful but once again it was back to its cheerful tone," You did not get time to explore the system, why don't we do that now?"
