Chapter 36: Terano Vultures

"What does the great wizard suggest we do?" Dira asked although he still shocked by the fact that Trevor's magic had been sealed. If someone's magic had been sealed, it either meant it was a dark kind and would cause more harm than good. Or people were afraid of him becoming I powerful. He rules out the former option cause you couldn't seal dark magic with more dark magic. Leaving him with the latter option. Someone must have sealed off his magic to prevent him from growing stronger. And that person must have had high jealousy or hatred towards Trevor to seal him off with seven seals. And moreover dark seals, those that could harm the victim and take over their body in the long run. Suddenly, his attitude towards Trevor changed a bit. "I'll see." Barbech stretched his arm out for the crystal ball and manipulates it. Blue dazzling light swirled around the crystal ball as the wizard read through it. "This....." the wizard's eyes widened as the information got revealed to him. "What is it, great wizard?" "You've lucked out this time." Dira's face lit up when he heard the wizard say they were in luck. But that face was quickly replaced with an are you kidding me serious face when he heard what Barbech said next. "All you need is a darkness devour potion." The reason for Dira's serious look was that that type of potion was among the most rear. The chances of finding one in the lower division and mid-division were below zero percent. In fact, they weren't in luck. But in deep trouble. The materials used to manufacture that option could only be found in high-ranked beast areas. He could only ponder on where he could get tasmian drach herbs and satrized dark mud. The great wizard scoffed at Dira's expression. Trevor could only look on as the duo had a conversation. All he could hear was gibberish. He hadn't yet dived into potions and herbs. So he didn't even have a clue of what they were talking about. "I said you're in luck.....I do happen to have tasmian drach and satrized dark mud with me." Immediately, Dora's face got delighted again. "But as you know.... All good things come with a price." Barbech flashed a playful smile. "Obviously." Dira smiled with disdain in his eyes, "What is it that we have to do for you?" Trevor stood there, looking at the two have a conversation. With Dira switching moods from delighted to shocked, to surprised, to helpless. This situation was about him. He didn't understand why Dira would be so excited about this. "Good... It's simple. I want a deposit of 10 gold right now. And a hide from a deliar rhinoceros. Cheap price right." Dira widened his eyes in shock. " cheap! You want me to fight a deliar rhinoceros? And ten gold!" Although Dira knew that this ought to be expensive, he didn't expect Barbech to send them on a quest against a rhinoceros. They were one of the most feared beasts in Tenkai. Although they belonged to a low rank, they were well known for their thick hard skin that was almost resistant to magic attacks. The only option one had was to get as close to it as possible and use physical means. And the chances of that happening without a horn being pushed through your chest were very minimal indeed. Barbech simply smirked; "Not you. Both of you. I didn't mention anything about fighting." Dira let out a relieved breath after hearing that. "There's a dead deliar rhinoceros by the river. I just want one piece of skin. But..." "Oh dear, buts are never good," Trevor said to himself. "There are a total of five terano vultures having it as a meal. So, find a way to get the skin and we can negotiate." Dira's eyes once again widened in shock. The man before him was utterly despicable. Why couldn't he just get it himself? He was even willing to pay 20 gold. But terano vultures? He could only shudder in fear. They were silver-ranked beasts. Just like vultures but gigantic. They heard razor-sharp beaks that could slice through a leaf in mid-air effortlessly. And that wasn't the scary part. They possessed acid glands at the back of their throats granting them the ability to shoot acid at their victims. It usually uses the acid to break down thick flesh like but if that acid was directed to a mere human, death would be the only way out. "Great Wizard Barbech, am sure there is an easier way. Why can't I just pay 20 gold?" "No." "30 gold? " No answer! "50 gold?" "..." The wizard simply stared at Dira blankly, "It's not money that I need. I have a use for that hide and would like to get my hands on it as soon as possible. I would get it myself, but what if someone invades the cavern." Sighing deeply, Dira could only agree to the conditions. And with that, the both of them left the cavern with Dira leading the way to the Sogar River. An hour later, they arrived at their destination. The moon shone brightly at the river making the water look like flowing diamonds. At the riverbank, a group of terano vultures feasted on a meal. Not noticing the intruders, they ate as if it were their last. Trevor looked at the terrifyingly huge vultures from a distance. "Stop!" Dira suddenly halted Trevor. Unfortunately, he stepped on a twig making it snap. And immediately, one of the vultures turned their heads around to survey the surrounding. Immediately, both Trevor and Dira ducked and hid behind a shrub. Trevor could only panic as he gazes into those pure green eyes. Not noticing anything, the vulture continued feasting on the dead rhinoceros. "How are we supposed to get the skin now?" Trevor pondered. After watching the vultures for a couple of minutes, they noticed something. One of the vultures rose to the sky with a piece of flesh and flew away. And then another followed, then another until one remained. But it didn't stay long. It too grabbed a piece of meat in its beak and launched to the sky. A ray of hope manifested in Trevor as he looked at the dead decaying rhinoceros. He prepared to dash forward to get the skin but then Dira stopped him. "They will be back. But how long they will take? I don't know." Dira said. Five minutes ticked by quickly with both Trevor and Dira feeling the sting of wasting all that time. A vulture could be seen from above. It descended and grabbed another piece of flesh before flying off again. But just then, more two vultures flew down and grabbed themselves a piece before flying away. And then another two came down and picked a piece before leaving again. The dead rhinoceros was left alone again. After watching this, Dira made a rough estimation of where the vultures' nests were. "We have five minutes to get the skin," Dira said. And with that, both of them made their way to the dead beast. But just then, a vulture flew down at them with a great speed. "What happened?" Dira wondered after seeing the vulture's green eyes look at them with killing intent. A green liquid shot at them from above. Immediately, both Dira and Trevor dodged it and turned tail and run. The green substance sank deep into the ground with green smoke evaporating from it. But the vulture didn't intend to let them off the hook so easily. It immediately flew behind them bombarding them with acid shots although all of them missed. In just seconds, the situation had turned sour for them. "Quick....head to the forest," Dira instructed after an acid shot swooshed past him. Immediately, they changed their course and headed into the forest. Trevor sighed when he saw that the vulture had stopped following them, "It looks like we lost it." But just then, trees started falling down one by one making loud thuds as they touched the ground. Dira looked in the direction the sound came from noticing that something was approaching them. "I don't think so," he said with a serious look. He chanted a series of spells and immediately, a sword appeared in his left hand and a shield was covered both him and Trevor. "Here. Take this." he handed the sword over to Trevor, "I'll hold it off from the front. Try and stab it from the back. The quicker we end this battle, the safer we are." Trevor nodded once before dashing away from Dira. The terano Voltaire finally emerged from the woods and stared at Dira with killing intent. It spread its wings wide open and roared angrily at him. Dira immediately drew a rune with his staff and it dazzled with a golden hue. He then followed by blowing his breath into the rune and a huge gust of wind erupted of the rune blowing towards the vulture. Since the vulture had its wings spread out, the wind blew it quite a distance back and smashed into the tree. The vulture simply stood up and shook its head stabilizing itself. Dira could only smile in disdain seeing that his attack had caused no damage to the vulture. The killing intent the vulture radiated grew stronger after that attack. It opened its beak and launched an acid shot at Dira. "Scram!" Dira cursed as he tried to dodge. Of which he did successfully, but then, another acid substance shot towards him almost immediately. Part of a golden spherical shield appeared at the area where the acid struck. The whole shield appeared around Dira and blinked twice before disappearing into thin air. "F***, it had already taken away two of my shield's durability." Dira cursed. He could only imagine how lethal that acid was.
