Xander POV
Kade and I sat in silence for a moment, not sure how to start. I knew what he'd done with she-wolves. He’s not a clean slate, but he is a good person.
“Xan, I don’t want to take her from you. You picked her up when she was broken, and I’ve never seen you smile the way you do with her. She’s turning you into a lovesick pup, and you deserve it. You being the one who gets rejected isn’t an option, so don’t even consider it,” Kade breaks the ice by stating.
“Kade, why didn’t you tell me? You’re my best friend. I had no idea you felt this way towards her,” I responded, wanting to find out why he held this information from me.
“Dude, when did I have a chance? Since you two found out you were mates and I saw her for the first time none of us have had a chance to talk about this. Nik and I just now talked about it, since neither of us knew if it was a two way thing. So when would I have told you?”
Kade was right. So much had been going on in the past twenty-four hours that we didn’t have time to process anything. Not to mention the challenge from Drake coming up.
“Kade, I’m pretty sure I can defeat Drake, but on the off chance I don’t I need you to keep Nikki from him.”
“Really, man? f**k that s**t, you’re gonna beat him. Besides that’s not what we’re here to discuss. Obviously I wouldn’t let Nik go to that asshole anyways.”
“Okay, fine. What are your thoughts?”
For the first time ever, I saw Kade being nervous about a she-wolf. He never acted this way, and I knew he truly cared for her. My mate. No. Our mate.
Can she really have two mates? Chase intervened.
I don’t know. But I trust Kade, and Nikki has given us no reason not to trust her. I responded.
I’m not a fan of sharing.
Neither am I, but if I have to share with anyone, better to be my best friend, right?
“Xan, I care for her. I love her, I do. To me, she’s my princess, and I would do anything for her. Which is why you need to have her reject me,” Kade interrupted my thoughts.
“What?” I didn’t understand him at all right now. Why would he have her reject him when he felt this way.
“You and Nik are made for each other. You make each other so happy, and I refuse to interfere with that. I want you two to be happy and live a life full of love and support.” Kade hung his head as he finished what he was saying. I could tell this was extremely difficult for him to say, and I wasn’t sure I was okay with what he was saying.
“Kade, stop. You really think she wants that? You’re the one who suggested it, she didn’t seem excited when she brought up the idea of rejecting you or me. Do you really want her to be happy and loved?”
“Of course!”
“Then why not give it to her twice as much?”
He looked at me like a deer in the headlights. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if this was the best idea, but if it made Nikki happy, that’s what mattered most. I would be willing to do anything for her.
“You’re serious? You’re alright with this… throuple?” he asked me. I had to laugh at the word choice, but I knew he was serious.
“Yes. You’re my best friend, the only person I’d trust with all of this,” I answered with a smile on my face. “Besides, Nikki clearly cares for you. She wouldn’t give these choices if it wasn’t something she wanted.”
Kade looked down for a minute, thinking over everything I just said. I knew this was weird and different, but for Nikki I would do anything. She deserved to be as happy as possible.
“Well, let’s go get her and tell her to be prepared for two top wolves in her life now,” he finally said after a few minutes of silence.
I smiled at him and we stood together. We gave each other a half hug, the normal bro thing we always do, before walking out towards the cafeteria. We were silent most of the way there, and found Josh immediately upon entering. However, Nikki wasn’t with him. Scanning the cafeteria, I finally found her talking to somebody, and I immediately growled out, as did Kade. Nikki snapped her head in our direction and looked terrified.
Nikita POV
Josh and I walked to the cafeteria in silence. I’m pretty sure he was letting me process everything that was happening. I knew the guys would figure things out and make a decision, I just hoped it was a good one.
When we reached the cafeteria, I ordered an orange juice and a bagel with strawberry cream cheese, and we went and sat down near the window. We were eating and talking about how much things have changed when someone stopped by our table. I turned to greet them, and my eyes went wide as I saw it was Drake and his father, Lucian.
“Drake, what are you doing here?” Josh growled at him, ready to fight this second if Drake did anything.
Drake held his hands up in defense, his expression soft, almost apologetic. Lucian on the other hand looked cold, harsh, as if he was daring Josh to try something. “I just came to talk to Nik for a minute. I can’t touch her, rules of the challenge. I just wanted a few minutes alone to say what I need to say,” Drake finally blurted out.
Josh was still tense, but I didn’t think Drake meant any harm with this. I grabbed Josh’s hand and nodded my head at him, causing him to reluctantly get out of his seat and leave. He didn’t leave the cafeteria, though, just went a few tables away out of earshot. Lucian left the cafeteria going who knows where.
“Nik, I’m sorry,” he started. “The challenge, I just kind of said it before I thought how it would affect you, but I will fight for you. You are perfect, and I was a fool for rejecting you. I know I don’t deserve forgiveness, but I will work for the rest of my life to make it up to you and earn your trust again. I never, ever want to hurt you again. On my honor. You are my life, and always will be. I hope you can eventually forgive me.”
I was stunned. I didn’t know how to respond, but I needed to. As I was about to, we heard loud growls from the other end of the cafeteria, and when I saw Kaden and Xander looking at me, I was afraid.
