Farewell
Olivia’s POV
“What are you doing?”
“Packing stuff. I guess I am not staying here anymore.” I replied.
“Pack it back, coz you are staying here.”
“I really need to get out of here to move on in my life.”
“I don’t care any of it. All I care about is you living with me.”
“This ain’t gonna work. I have to go to University of Alabama, miles away from here.”
“You are going to University of Florida with me. You are the only one I have and I just can’t let you walk your way here.”
“But mom, my SAT score doesn’t get me an admission in your college and University of Alabama is fine.”
“You don’t need to worry about it. I am going to ask the principal to let you in and you just have to study hard and bring some scores in first mid terms okay?”
“Mom, just calm down and sit here. I know that you care about me but you have to understand that I am not suitable to be educated in your college. And it is not fair for other students who will be studying there with me too. I just feel like I will be a loner there.”
“It won’t be that way… you will have me there.” That’s the only reason I willingly gave up some questions in the test.
I sit beside my mom and hug her.
“Mom, it’s gonna be fine. I,…I am gonna be fine. I am going to live with Stacy in her house. It’ll be totally okay. I will visit you on Sundays. I will behave. I promise you that.”
“You two live alone there. With no one taking care of you both.”
“I have her and she has me. It is totally fine we won’t be alone.”
“You don’t have elders taking care of you there. And you are not thinking it practically. What will you eat daily?”
“Stacy has a nanny in her house. So, it will be fine.”
“Alabama is not as good as Florida.”
“It is good for me. Mom I am old enough to decide to what and where to live or study.”
I said that in a little louder voice. And my mom got silent.
“Mmm…”
“I love you mom. And I wish I would stay with you, but I will be a gossip and you have to hear from everyone about me, for every single thing I do, my test scores and everything. I know you worked there for 15 years and I also know that you are a very reputed professor there and I just don’t want to ruin your reputation. I love you mom and I don’t want you to get hurt because of me.”
After 10 minutes of silence my mom spoke.
“Love you baby. Stay for today’s dinner.”
I smile and hug her.
“I will.”
After dinner I went to my bed as I promised my mom. I was making my bed then my mom walked in with a small velvet box.
“I thought to give it to you long ago. Maybe, the time is right now.”
“What is it?”
“See it yourself.”
I opened the box slowly to find a gold thread tangled with a Golden band embedded with a white stone. It is so delicate.
“This is so beautiful. When did you buy it?”
“When you were 5, I bought it with your dad. The band is what he choosed.”
So, it is from my father. I don’t like it now.
“I don’t want this crap.”
My mom took it from my hands and brought it to my neck.
“Every time I see this, it remembers me how time passess. I want you to wear it all the time. “
“Not gonna happen.”
“I wanted you to have it when you were 15, but then you were not interested in dating or anything at all. You just kept talking about Stacy. But, now you are going to college. One day you might find certain someone you would like to live the rest of your life with. I want you to express your love with this band.” No wonder it doesn’t look feminine.
“Still, not gonna happen.”
“Then stay here with me.”
“Mom….” I whined.
“Now be a good girl and promise me that you won’t take this band out until you find someone you love to offer it to.”
“I love Stacy, can I give it to her.”
“You know what I mean. Now get back to sleep.”
I laid there and my mom tucked me into bed sheets. Soon my mom went downstairs and I jumped out of the window coz it’s my last night here and we are going to have a blast. I called Stacy. She picks it up very soon.
Me: “Stacy.”
Stacy: “In the party.”
Me: “Location babe.”
Stacy: “Street 12 GoClub.”
Me: “In a minute. Love you.”
Stacy: “Waiting.”
I hung up and took a taxi.
“You have arrived the destination” said the driver.
I paid him. I went straight in. She sure knows my choice. It’s blasting in there.
Nancy: “Oliva Waters.”
Here walks the last person I thought I would meet.
Me: “Sup, girl. You were invited too?”
This girl in front of me with a perfect ladylike attire (b***h of course) is my nemesis. Not that we have something going on, but sometimes when you see someone you get this bad feeling. Think it as the same way between us.
Nancy: “Of, course it is my pleasure to send you off. It is not every day you get a chance to see off someone like you.”
Me: “I am glad you are here.”
Nancy: “You should be.”
Me: “Oh, yeah. Lady knowledge has paid a visit to bring me luck.” I bowed to her mockingly and roll my eyes.
Nancy: “I wish I was your mother’s daughter. You simply disgrace her.”
Okay, this is out of line. I was being polite and she crosses the line.
Stacy: “Hey Nancy. I thought you wouldn’t be coming. But you made it.” Stacy called her out.
Nancy: “You invited me. So, I had to come.” She replied smilingly.
Stacy: “Yeah, the invitation was a formality. I didn’t actually expect you to show up right in my face. Girls these days lack self-respect.”
Nancy: “You…”
Stacy: “My good sister is stammering. She got angry. Someone save me” Stacy acts as if she is afraid.
Nancy: “I shouldn’t have come here. Forgot you both walk a same way.”
Stacy: “Absolutely right, you shouldn’t. Now pack your s**t together and move out.”
Nancy storms off from there.
Me: “You shouldn’t have done that, she is your cousin.”
Stacy: “Seriously, god made a huge mistake. You should be my sister.”
Me: “And I am.”
“Hahaha…” We laugh at the same time.
Stacy Williams, we are best friends from kindergarten and Nancy Williams is cousin of Stacy Williams. Both Nancy’s and Stacy’s fathers are blood brothers and mothers are best friends from college. They thought their daughters would be besties like them, but you can’t plan on how one behaves. That is why humans are indifferent species. And how I knew Nancy, we three went to the same High school.
Stacy: “She was here to just hit on boys. And I believe I just saved her from your wrath.”
Me: “Yes, you did.”
Stacy: “What were you gonna do.”
Me: “Just punch her pretty face.”
Stacy: “And expose your presence in party.”
Me: “I know, you are a savior.”
Stacy: “I saved myself.” She winked and hugged me.
Me: “I sure saved earth in my last life.”
She points to Nancy.
Stacy: “Look at her, the way she walks in those heels and her ass. f*****g hot.”
Me: “She is…”
Stacy: “If I were to not send her back, she would have hooked up with someone here already.”
Me: “You bet.”
Stacy: “How did she manage to doll up in such a short notice. I wish you had any of her skills.”
Me: “Wait… What?”
Stacy: “Look at you. You just came here with your pajamas on.”
Me: “You know my mom. I am here that is everything.”
Stacy: “Now, stop with the mommy thing and let’s party…”
We went into the floor and started rocking our bodies. We did shots. I am famous for my tolerance. I hit the damn floor today. While I was high and rocking someone approached me. A tall guy with chiseled jaw and grey eyes. He was wearing a loose t-shirt. He came very close to me, leaned over my shoulder and whispered.
“Hey hottie, do you want me to rock your body.” He was handsome and tall and not to mention he has good abs. His loose shirt gave me an unsatisfyingly-satisfying sight of his body. But nah, he is not the person I would like to give my first time to. He isn’t worth it.
“Grey eyes …not my type.” I slurred it out of my mouth. I grabbed Stacy’s hand and threw her into the man.
“She might want to rock it.” I told him.
After throwing her I went to the bar side and sat there on a bar stool. I had too much for tonight. Need to go home. I went to restroom and threw up all. I should get back home before it is too late. Not to mention, I have to catch a bus tomorrow. I..I,….
I sure went back home that day, but not as I imagined I would.
