Brooke started to apologize to me as soon as we were in the car. She sounded so guilty that I was concerned it might be to do with Blake at first. I interrupted her because I didn’t want to hear her say something that would no doubt be upsetting.
“…it’s fine. I get it. You have to keep me safe, right?”
“I wish I could just have said yes. It’s such an innocent thing…”
I exhaled a breath I had been holding without realizing it.
She was feeling bad about telling me no, she wasn’t about to tell me anything bad about Blake.
“I asked Pippa if she wanted to come over for our traditional Friday movie night tomorrow. I know I can’t go over to Nora’s place, but I thought that would be OK. That is alright, isn’t it?”
