Fighting My Demons

Chapter 1 The big fight I laid down on my bed that night, trying to sleep when I heard the booming Voices of my mom and dad. It was coming from the parlour, I tiptoed to the Paloour trying to eavesdrop on their conversation. But all I could get was    "Micheal, why are you doing this?  When will you stop?  You've become so addicted. " My mom said with a tone of worry and anger.     "I'm sorry. I said I'm sorry! " My dad aplogized at the top of his voice  when my mom kept rounding the stairs angrily to her bedroom.  "I don't know what made me do it" Mom turned angrily at him when she reached the master bedroom, gave him her death stare and went inside the room. My dad switched the parlour light off, rounded the stairs and went to bed. I, being more confused  than ever went to bed  Jarred from bed thanks to the sound of my alarm clock that blares like a train,I moved out of bed, prayed, swept, took my bath and I was ready for school in no time.  I ran down the stairs " Dad I'm ready. Just waiting for you." but my dad came out with his suitcase and stared at me with something like regret in his eyes "I'm sorry Boma, your mum will drop you. I looked at my dad and laughed thinking he was joking. So I went went to the dining to pick the car key myself since my dad was joking around. but I didn't see my dad's car key " Dad where is your car key?" I asked frowning my face. Dad just stared at me . What's wrong with this man playing games with me this morning. I went outside in case he had ignited the car but surprisingly the car was nowhere to be found . " Dad what happened to the car? You know we're supposed to use it today." "I'm sorry Boma. Your mum will drop you today" he said  he picked up his suitcase " but at least tell me what happened to the car?"I asked almost frustrated today. I'm gonna be late for the first time in many months.  " It's bad and at the workshop for repair " After this, he left the house I tried to piece last night event and today's but I could not instead I wounded up more confused but I knew my dad was lying I went to the kitchen where my mum was making breakfast. Her countenance was formidable but I said nothing to her. Rather, I watched how she took her time tiding up the kitchen. My mom was never a lazy woman. I knew she was mad at my father.  I've come to know that when my mum does things carefully and slowly she was making up her mind. I pray that she won't make me eat at home because I've lost my appetite. It's as if God heard my prayers cos she packed the food in my lunch box, took her car key and we left for school. When my mum stopped the car at my school parking lot I stared at her expecting her to say something but she said nothing to me . So I just said " I love you mom" But she didn't budge. so I took my lunch box and left my mum zoomed off afterwards.  "Hey" said David " hey" I replied half smiling. Still watching my mom go. David is my child hood friend.  "what happened? your mum dropping you today? Always so  sensitive and inquisitive for everything "nothing. we are fine" I answered  "yeah I can see how fine you are" "what do you mean" I asked David  "it's very rare for your mum to drop you off and when she drops you off before she drives she comes out of her car and her hugs you. (he took a step back and looked at me) she did none of that today" "How did you know that" He pointed at the third floor of our school building "I always stand there. I'm always watching" "You know what David? the last thing I need is someone watching me like a hawk. see you after school" I didn't even attend class I went to the library and I sat there all day thinking and trying to process the things that happened this morning but the more I tried the more I got nothing. I heard the bell for dismissal, so I hang my mini school bag picked my lunch box and stood up. I took just three steps out of the library and almost jumped out of my skin "..Aarhhh... David what was that for " David is one of the most intelligent boy in my class he's smart, talented and too Snoopy. If you want any case solved in senior secondary just ask for David. I mean he's a young detective and he's been my best friend since childhood. I mean if someone doesn't kill me with heart attack then David will.  Placed my left hand on my full chest trying go get some air.  "Girl you're in trouble the principal came to class today and took attendance by himself!" he stressed " himself"  "oh! Did you cover up for me?" I asked alarmed " I tried but a whole lot of students had seen you in school today. I tried to say you were in the sick Bay but he was going to find out anyways. I'm sorry I couldn't cover up for you" David said regretfully Of course I understand what he was saying. Our principal is a no-nonsense man and no one gets away after lying to him " thanks. Why am I in trouble anyways.. I mean, he will understand that I was in the library, doing so. E research." I smirked. Fo congrats my two eyebrows to dance.  "He phoned your mum" " Oh No! Now that's a bomb turning into a volcano" I exclaimed "yeah...I thought you were showing off just now about been a trustworthy student Bii" He this time did the smirking. I'm really in trouble. "your mum is talking with the principal right now" David!! You should have said that earlier.. Why do you always save the bad news for later? " I was now upset.  "God how bad can this day get? come-on David, let's go!!"   I said hurriedly. My Mum have such a formidable temper. No one likes to offend her. Not even me her precious daughter.  We ran all the way to the principal administrative block. I forced myself to halt when I almost collided with my mum. she just stared at me " good afternoon mom..your.. Here" I faked a smile. I  am truly in trouble now.  "Thanks David. goodbye." she smiled at David for finding me. And turn to me with her eyes burning hole inside my body. I mean,  if eyes can kill. I will be dead by now "Come on Normal, let's go home" That voice alone made me tremble!! I was fiddling with my fingers now. But I soon got angry.  So David gets a great and and I don't. My Mum took my hand and said nothing to me. but I didn't need her to say anything cause her high heel Stilettos was already talking to me, scolding me. The clicking sound on the marble floor made me feel goosepimples all over my body. We got to the car but mum still hasn't said a thing to me. I got tired of the silent and decided to start the conversation " Mum won't you say anything" She turned and looked at me and asked " how are you? let's go home" What does that mean? I'm I forgiven?  she started her sports car and we drove off.my mom loves car somuch. And her driving skills are unbeatable. when we reached home my mum rushed to her room which made me very suspicious so I followed her. When she got to her room she went straight to the file cabinet near her bedside where all the visible Riches and documents of our family were kept "Don't stand there Boma. Get me the suitcase next to my bed" My mum's room is like a real disciplined teenagers room. like everything is in order. clothes are folded and stacked very well. everything in the Cabinets are well orderly arranged and then they shoes rack.I mean if anything in goes missing she will notice it. I went straight for the suitcase "Here" I handed out the suitcase and I saw her pack all the jewelries and documents and jewelries. But she left one and I thought it wasn't important "I 'm coming Boma.stay in the house don't go anywhere! have you heard me?"  Now that was a real command.  I tried to search my mum's face but it was blank. so blank, I mean you can't tell what was going on in her mind through her expressions. I nodded my head and accepted the fact and she left the house I left my mum's room, went to my room and freshened up. I heated my lunch my lunch in the microwave and just when I sat down to eat on the dining table my mum came in. "Mum!! welcome I greeted her whilehugging her like I'm 15years old and still behave like a child.  I really miss my mum even just 10 minutes is like forever without her.  we've been friends very close friends like we tell each other whatever goes on in our life.but with this incident that happened with my dad, she really became distant. She won't even return a hug.  "Mum.. what's going on? I mean what's happening? I don't understand" I really searched her face searching for clue and answer.  so blank.I mean you can't tell what was going on in her mind through her expressions. I nodded my head and accepted the fact and she left the house I left my mum's room, went to my room and freshened up. She won't still tell me. What exactly is going on.. All these things went through my mind. My mom has become so cold.  "Yes ma'am"  I answered Today has been so busy and I'm too tired to go further into asking her anything. I just went straight to my room giving up the idea for now.
