Melicent's-pov
In my mind, a thought echoed incessantly, "I have to meet my sister." The thought made my heart pound relentlessly. Our relationship was strained, to say the least. Mandy was my twin sister but we were like strangers. After our parents succumbed to cancer. They left behind a will that divided the family assets evenly between us. I later discovered that Mandy had manipulated the document while I was studying abroad, claiming everything solely in her name. I knew our parents loved us equally. They wouldn't have favored her unfairly. We're twenty-three now. The sting of her betrayal still lingered in my thoughts, haunting me even after all these years like it was just yesterday. Her words were etched in my memory, "Mom and Dad are gone. If you go against me, you'll have nowhere to turn. You would be hungry and homeless, everything belongs to me now." Her evil declaration accompanied by a sinister smile, printed itself deeply on my mind. Hurt and scarred by her words, I resigned to live under her rule reluctantly. She never mistreated me outrightly, but her betrayal stung. I felt trapped and lacked the means to pursue legal action due to my wretched state. Today was the last day that I would cower to her. I completed my Aeronautical Engineering degree abroad, and that was just the first step towards my goal. I wanted to get my master's. However, Mandy's refusal to support me put a stop to my aspirations. I knew I had to take action sooner rather than later. Determined, I emerged from the confines of the bathroom and made a beeline for her apartment in our shared estate despite her insistence that I never visit unannounced. I decided to break free from these constraints. She was my sister, my twin! The fact that she was the elder one had no sway over my desire to reclaim what was rightfully mine and to pursue my dreams. Hastily, I reached her door without the courtesy of a knock or even a buzz at the intercom on the door I barged in, catching both her and a man off guard. Mandy's face was contorted with rage as she rose. Her eyes were blazing, lips parted in a mix of shock and rage. It wasn't her reaction that surprised me. It was the man beside her, it was no other person than the Governor of Clarence. Never had I encountered a man so strikingly handsome! The shock on my face must have been evident by now. What was she doing entangled with an influential man? My gaze shifted between the man and my sister. She was silently contemplating her next choice of action. Without a word, she prowled towards me. Her fists were clenched, and instinctively I moved backward. My gaze widened, and I braced myself. Amidst her anger, I noticed the Governor had stood up. He had a shocked expression on him. "Didn't I warn you about showing up unannounced?" She growled as she swung her fist towards me. I ducked it, only to be met with a stinging slap when I came up. The breach of her usual demeanor caught me off guard. “Why this sudden outburst, especially in the presence of such an influential figure she should be revering?” I asked myself. I was more surprised than annoyed by her actions. I wanted to strike back, but attracting the attention of this influential man, Garfield was more important. Engaging in a fight would repel him. If he cared, he would step in and defend me. Mandy shoved me, and as I staggered, the towel draped around my shoulders fell, my feigned gasp showed my innocence. Her gaze shifted to Garfield, she let out another furious slap that sent me tumbling, exposing my unclad body further. Garfield's eyes were fixated on me. At that moment, a strange mix of thrill and allure enveloped me. His intense gaze, filled with desire made me feel weightless. "Stop!" His commanding voice thundered and halted my sister's assault. Garfield's POV My body grew tense, my eyes were dilated and my hormones were in riot. It's been a long time since I felt like this, I've never felt this response for any other woman in years. What is it about her? "Wait!" I stretched forth my hand, Mandy was surprised as she turned swiftly to see where the voice was coming from. I'm sure jealousy must be charting pathways through her veins. Why would she be jealous when she wasn’t receptive to the deal I brought to her? She felt that she deserved better than this, I thought it would be better if she let me have my way with another woman. I stormed towards her to stop her from harassing her sister. "What the hell is wrong with you?" I feigned seriousness but I knew I was interested in her. Even If I could hide it from her, I couldn't hide it from myself. I needed to be honest with myself. I kept staring at her crotch. Usually, I'm not the type of guy who easily gets seduced. I spend more than ninety percent of my time focused on my duty, governing the people of Clarence. I was a Playboy who had mended his ways. I returned to the present. My eyes narrowed, "Don't you have a little sense of reservation, do you need to wash your dirty linens in public?" She narrowed her eyes further. "What do you mean?" She clenched her waist with her hands and stared at me with surprise. Her legs shifted towards me, her anger was now directed to me. She was supposed to be afraid of me, not the other way around. "I'm sure you know what I mean," I glared at her with stern eyes. My behavior made her more confused. I bent and helped Melicent off the floor. Somehow by some rotten luck, while helping her up, my face hovered around her crotch. It took all my willpower not to give in to the urges that were surprisingly flooding my brain. I pulled her up and faced elsewhere, I was done with my job, though deep down I felt I wasn't. "What am I going to do now?" I asked myself. I wanted her number. My eyes were still on her body. "What are you still doing here?" Mandy yelled at her sister, even as I stood there. I could see her true attitude, she was cruel and wicked. She turned and shot a begging glance towards me, I knew she was asking me to do something. She didn't want to leave. In as much as I would have loved to say something, I couldn’t. It was not my place. "Did you come for me or did you come for her?" Mandy asked after Melicent left. I turned towards the side glass wall of the room overlooking the grounds of the estate and stared at the gardens. I placed my hands into my trouser pockets and took a heavy breath. Melicent filled my head. I seriously wanted her, my entire being ached for her. I was so reluctant to leave, but I knew that my conversation with Mandy had ended with the way the meeting went. She just displayed a tough attitude before me, she wouldn't change her mind. "Well, I got to be on my way!" I said to her without expecting any response, with my hands still inside my pockets, I took my exit and didn’t look back. The staircase was an unusually long one and my plight came over me as I descended it. I was in a very dangerous situation, I was expected to marry Valerie within three months, lest I would face a court case worth billions. I didn't want to risk it either, so I had to do something quickly. For months now, Mandy had my attention, being the popular actress she was. Hollywood was my favourite entertainment industry and I needed a celebrity. I couldn't marry someone who wasn't from nobility and I also wanted someone who was well known by the public whilst having good standards. She was the perfect example. Just that she refused to be a surrogate wife and mother. I would surely figure a way out, I can't marry a woman who poisoned my dad just to be with me because of the claim that I'm more charming and hot. It would be a big risk!
