CHAPTER FIFTEEN
Lark peered at Maia from behind the counter. “Are you all right, boss? You’re very quiet today.”
“Am I? Sorry, just pondering… stuff. Sorry. Listen, it’s dead today. Why don’t we shut for an extended lunch—my treat—and we’ll go pick up a tree for the shop?”
It was the first week of December, and Maia felt restless as if she were missing… something. Atom’s story had unsettled her, but she was careful not to show that around him, wanting to be strong for him. He’d found a therapist in the city and had arranged an appointment for the New Year.
