CHAPTER SIXTEEN
At home, she began chopping vegetables for their supper, waiting for Atom to come back from the construction site. When she heard his key in the door, she went to meet him. He grinned at her as he hung his coat on the hook. “Hey, beautiful.”
In reply, Maia wrapped herself around him, pressing her lips to his and kissing him until they were both breathless. “Wow,” he said, “now that’s a way to say hello.”
“Next you’ll be saying ‘somethin’ smells good’ and ‘honey, I’m home.’” She grinned at him and he laughed.
“We’re so domesticated. Talking of… where’s the kid?”
“Eating her supper.” Maia gave him a guilty look. “Yeah, I know it’s early, but she was driving me crazy.”
As if on cue, Betty came barreling out of the kitchen to greet Atom, and he swept the dog into his arms
