CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
She felt little fingers curling around her hair as she woke, and she was smiling before she even opened her eyes. “Hey, my little Nugget.”
Maia opened her eyes and smiled down at her daughter. Luka was cuddled next to her on the hospital bed, her head on Maia’s shoulder. Atom was on Maia’s other side, holding her hand. He bent down and kissed her. “How are you feeling?”
“Actually good,” she said with a little surprise.
“That’ll be the morphine.” Atom grinned, nodding to the drip.
“Nah, it’s the company,” Maia said with a laugh. She kissed Luka’s forehead. “You okay, Nugget?”
Luka nodded but didn’t say anything, and Maia shot a glance at Atom, who gave her a smile and mouthed “She’s okay.”
