Chapter 1 Reunited at the Hospital
I tricked an innocent school heartthrob, slept with him, and then dumped him.
Six years later, I ran into him again in the hospital hallway.
He was now the younger General Manager James, the man everyone wanted to curry favor with, exuding an air of nobility and wearing an impeccably tailored suit.
I was disheveled, holding a child with an IV in one hand and biting a pancake with the other.
He asked, "How old is the child?"
"Four."
He raised his hand and snatched Lucas's medical test sheet, glancing at the age. "Olivia, you're still as full of lies as ever!"
I've always loved telling lies.
The first s****l encounter with Avery James also ended in a lie.
At eighteen, in a hotel room before dawn, after a moment of intimate bliss, Avery put on his pants and said bashfully, "It's all my fault. I'll go buy medicine for you. Next time, I will definitely be careful."
I didn't blame him at all. "I'm hungry and I want a sandwich from Croydon," I said.
He leaned down to kiss me and said, "Alright, I'll go buy it. You go rest for a bit and wait for me."
Croydon is far away in Qauhnard, and it takes two hours round trip.
That was our last conversation, and he told me to wait for him.
I agreed, but then left.
"The kid's blood has refluxed," Avery said coldly. I came back to my senses and hurriedly sat down.
"What are you doing at the hospital?" I asked, trying to make small talk.
"Accompanying a pregnant woman," he said blandly, adjusting the IV bottle.
''He's already married? That's good.'
"Congratulations! You're going to be a dad," I said.
He frowned and didn't respond to me. He glanced briefly at the child and asked, "Where's the kid's father?"
I answered, "He is going to pay the fee and will be back in a moment."
"Oh."
Avery stopped talking, just stood beside me, twirling the lighter in his hand.
Avery stood tall and graceful, with attractive eyebrows and eyes. Passersby stopped to gaze at him and whispered among themselves.
Passerby A said, "That guy is so handsome! That girl obviously doesn't match him."
Passerby B said, "Maybe he's a toy boy."
Passerby A retorted, "No way. Just his watch is worth over a million. The woman's entire outfit isn't worth more than two hundred."
Passerby B said, "I'm so envious. I wish I could have a child with him, too."
I cleared my throat awkwardly. "It's been so long, your wife must be getting worried. You'd better go back quickly."
Avery showed no sign of leaving. Instead, he asked me, "It's been such a long time. Why hasn't the kid's father come yet?"
I glanced down at the child and said, "He must be held up by something."
"Is that so?" Avery muttered angrily, his voice as cold as ice. "Olivia, is there a single truthful word you've ever said?"
