The fight against all odds

chapter 5~ dinner

This pack is the most beautiful pack I've ever seen all, be it. I've only been in two packs my entire life, but I'm sure this one surpasses them all. Alex has shown me so much that this pack has built, and I love this for them. we ended up going to a small cafe when he was done showing me around, and it was so homey and smelled so good.

"What would you like to eat?"

"i-i don't have any money.."

"I didn't ask if you had money. I asked what you would like to eat."

I felt my heart hammer I my chest. I haven't had anyone buy me something since my family died. I was quite spoiled when they were around, being the youngest out of all my siblings.

I picked up the menu reading what they had. a lot of the food and drinks looked delicious, but I had to start out slow so I could get adjusted to human food again.

"I would like the country steak rare please and some water to go with it."

"Hmm, sounds nice. I'll order two of them but mine with sweet tea."

shortly after we agreed on what we wanted, a waiter came over to take our orders. Alex told them what we wanted and the left to go tell the cooks.

Alex looked at me for a moment, pondering on what to say.

"So Octavia.. are you going to accept me as your mate. Axl and I have been waiting for you for a long time.. I know it looks bad with me already having a chosen mate, but I promise I didn't want one.. I wanted to wait for you.."

I thought about it. it did hurt knowing he chose someone, but I also know he didn't want to choose to take another it was forced on him. but I also don't want to just rush into things. I don't even know what the man's favorite color is. I want to take it slow and get to know each other a bit more.

"I do accept you as my mate. but I also want to take things slow for a while. I need to get used to being around so many wolves again. I need to start taking my online courses and training. I also need to join the pack first. I want to work my way into being in the pack first instead of just jumping into the luna position and nobody knowing who I am.."

I watched his face light up.his eyes seemed to sparkle, and the biggest smile took over his face.

"I understand that. we can get you started with your courses at the end of the week so you can have some time to adjust to pack life again. what grade did you leave off in? also, we can start your training the day after we get your classes set up. as much as I wish I could take you as my luna now, I will respect your decision and well take it slow. maybe we can go out on a few dates and stuff to get to know each other."

I felt my heart melt by his words. he was willing to work with me on this, and that meant a lot more to me than I realized. most mates wouldn't wait to get together, but he understood where I was coming from, and it made me respect him a little more.

"Thank you for understanding where I'm coming from, Alpha. I really appreciate it more than you know. I left school at the beginning of my middle school, around sixth grade. and a couple of dates would be nice. I've never been on one before."

"You don't have to call me alpha. You can call me by my name. You are my mate after all,"

when he was done talking, the waiter brought us our food, and it smelled so delicious, and I couldn't wait to dig in, but before I could, I heard the cafe door open. I felt ferious eyes burning the back of my head. I didn't have to look to know it was Leylai could tell by the smell of her expensive perfume.

she walked to our table, stomping a little. I knew she was mad, but I couldn't find it in me to care.

"Alex, what is going on here?"

I watched him look at her with not a single care in the world.

"I finished showing Octavia around the pack, and we were a bit hungry from all the walking, so we came here to eat and discuss more about what she wanted to do in the future. did you finish those reports?"

"Yes, I finished them. and it's nice of you to show her around, but don't you think buying her dinner is a bit inappropriate? your two don't even really know each other."

"Leyla, don't start. you are free to join us and order your own food if you would like."

I watched her face twist in rage before she masked it over and sat down. I knew it would be a long night for Alex. I can sense an argument coming when they are alone. poor Alex.

she ordered her food while we started eating. that seemed to piss her off some more, but neither one of us paid it any attention.

when we were all done with our food, we made our way outside. the sun was starting to set, and it made a beautiful canvas of orange, pinks, and blues.

"I'll walk you home, Octavia. not a lot of pack members know you're here, and I don't want you running into any trouble on your first day. Leyla, go home. I'll be there when I'm done."

"but alex-"

"I said go home, Leyla."

she huffed but turned around and left. I knew she was going to cause me trouble, but at this moment, I didn't care. but I also felt my heart squeeze, knowing she gets to sleep in the same house as him.

we started making our way back to the cabin Alex let me have. it was getting dark out, and I could see the warriors starting their nightly patrol. it was beautiful out fireflies flying all around us, but I couldn't pay attention to that because my mind was still racing knowing Alex was going back to Leyla.

"Do you and Leyla share a room?"

he seemed caught off by the question but quickly recovered.

"Yes, but I'm having her leave the room. I'm not going to be sleeping next to someone now that I have my mate. that would me wrong. also, I have a feeling she'll start trouble with you. if that happens, come tell me right away. "

I felt a mix of relief and worry. relived that he wasn't going to be sharing a room with her anymore and worry for the upcoming complications with Leyla.

"I will don't worry. I don't want to fight with anyone if I can help it."

by the time we got to the cabin, it was completely dark out. Alex told me they didn't put street lamps up because with our superhuman eyesight, there was no need. and it would also create curiosity from the humans who didn't know we were there.it also helped against rouge attacks, since they didnt know the layout of the pack like they did it helped them quite a lot to defent them. apparently, Alex got in touch with a witch who put a spell around the pack so the humans couldn't see us that was nice of them.

"goodnight Octavia, I'll see you sometime tomorrow. sleep well."

"Goodnight, Alex. you sleep well as well. and good luck with Leyla. I have a feeling you'll be up most of the night."

he chuckled before leaving, and I lightly closed the door behind me.

i went to my room and looked for some pajamas ready for bed.

when I was done getting dressed, Iayed down in bed, relishing actually sleeping on a bed. it felt so nice.

I fell into a peaceful sleep that night, letting the darkness consume me.
